Over the years quite a lot has been written on the forums and the Facebook page, as well as Twitter, about things to see and do while in Hohenwald, TN. Folks tend to arrive a little early, maybe a full day or so, when it is time to pick up their new Oliver trailer, or tour the plant. After checking into a motel and a meal at one of the several great restaurant’s, folks seem to want to take a look around.
Now, one might think that locals would be a bit “stand offish” to strangers that just pop in on them, but, it ain’t so, ! I remember dropping into the barber shop down town, during one visit, and sitting in a chair to await my turn, and being included in the conversation about the turn of the weather. Then imagine my surprise when the barber only charged this visitor $7, the courtesy local senior citizen rate at the time.
Lewis county is S/W of Nashville just far enough away to maintain it’s pleasant, laid back, friendly, atmosphere.
While Betty and I were still in the “work a day world”, we arrived in town to get some updates on our Ollie, at the factory. It was late at night so we just pulled into the local Walmart parking lot and parked off to one side around by the garden center. Our thinking was that we would be out of the traffic pattern and less likely to be in someone’s way. The next morning we ran into the store manager who suggested that on our next visit we park in the well lit area up front, under the view of the video cameras for an extra measure of safety during our rest. We were impressed that this busy manager would take the time to make us feel safe and welcome.
So, during your visit to Hohenwald, enjoy all of the things to see and do, but “soak up” some of that “down home” hospitality !
