  1. After 5 years of digging around the subject of an RV, I'm getting close to committing to a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and the shorter Oliver Elite. I have some previous trailering experience and a lot of RV technical training. Took my wife on a 10-day motorhome rental trip last year and found out she was not hot on the idea...she would rather we buy an SUV and stay in hotels. Since then she bought an SUV and is still working. She recommended I also buy an SUV or a class B van, but told me to do my thing...it's my separate money after all. Have pretty much killed the idea of a van and DIY build. As some have told me, Rodger, you will never hit the road. Well, there have been timing and responsibilities issues and I'm not stressed over it. My 98 pound Boxer is ready to go, now that I have trained him up with a remote collar. And I have had a good year of art training so I can do some pretty nice landscape art work when we get going. I probably will be pretty quiet as to forum interactions, but I will be floating through the posts meantime. Don't plan to say much until I buy an Oliver. "Mace" and I want to dry camp on low to moderate off roads and avoid the private campgrounds. The wife may show up for a short vacay if I find a nice spot...fly in for a visit. For sure, we will also do some overseas traveling as well. But like I told my wife, it is time for Mace and I to get out of town from time to time. Cheers.

  2. EDIT 03/07/21 Here is a rear J Box: ... https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/5271-how-to-junction-box-for-the-7-wire-trailer-harness-under-the-front-dinette-seat/ I did this a while back to get a little extra reach, I added an 8 ft harness assembly , cutting off the excess Oliver harness. I will just post pics and if you have any questions I will answer them. It is really straight forward, I liked how I could sit down in comfort and work on the box with it clamped to a milk crate. When completely wired, I just moved it back under the A frame and stuck it down with 3M VHB tape, and secured the cables. The Oliver and Hopkins wire colors matched perfectly on MY trailer, there is no guarantee so you must check the diagram and/or use a meter. https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/HM20087.html?feed=npn&gclid=Cj0KCQjw37fZBRD3ARIsAJihSr2jOZrEUWhhM8c-BzUk0FIRPKP91TUs7m8NtRYESlC3fWdjnLhiUUsaAtVtEALw_wcB https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Pollak/PK52248.html Be very careful cutting away the outer insulation, the wires are laid in a spiral and it would be easy to cut them. Use GREAT care! [attachment file=139739] Here's the placard for inside the J Box cover: [attachment file=Oliver Junction Box wiring placard.docx] I like the ability to troubleshoot the wiring without cutting anything, and I can add extra circuits if I need to, like for my future electric-over-hydraulic brake booster..... Cool. NOTE: the box is weather resistant, not completely water tight, though the lid does have a nice rubber gasket..... I added a couple of small drain holes in case any moisture gets inside. It is important to NOT blast it directly with a pressure washer. John Davies Spokane WA Oliver-Junction-Box-wiring-placard.docx

  3. Nice post. Very timely for a fellow 2013 Land Cruiser owner. I picked up our new trailer on this past Monday from the factory with our Land Cruiser. By Wednesday my travel partner and I figured out that the trailer plug was being ripped out of the SUV trailer socket in tight left turns. The first time we thought it was an accident, the second time it happened we stopped to think more about it. The third time was on purpose and was witnessed while executing a tight left turn to get out of a parking lot. The factory supplied cord is too short for a Land Cruiser. Luckily I’d packed the extension I’d made for my former trailer when I had the same problem (even worse) with my old Toyota 4Runner. We got home without damaging anything. Nice junction box find. I’m going to order one up. Thanks John.

  4. All the comments have been helpful. Thanks. I drove a GMC Denali 1/2 ton yesterday. The pressure to buy was very sophisticated and clever. They handed the key to me, said take it home and get used to it. How I escaped from the dealership, I will never know.

  5. Bill and Martha, I changed the name of your thread to just “Spotted an Oliver”. I spotted one today and thought it might be better to just have a thread for sightings in general. If you don’t agree just let me know. We were on I-25 just west of Santa Fe, NM at about 2:00 today and saw an Elite II going the other way. TV was a dark pickup, I didn’t get a good look. We weren’t towing but we’re returning to our trailer at Cochiti Lake COE from Bandelier National Monument. Mike

  6. As Bill stated, that is a Golight Wireless Remote Control LED Spotlight. It is mounted on a custom mast. We use it to help us get into spaces after dark. It comes in real handy if there’s a need to spotlight wildlife like Sasquatch and such. Also, if we are boodocking someplace, I will pre-aim it to light up an area (such as the entrance to where we’re parked) in case something goes bump in the night. It’s just fun to use, and it’s bright, it will light up the dark side of the moon ?. Not really...
