  2. Wow, that is so very nifty..... Thanks for posting. Unfortunately it requires a complete kit for “older” toilets that is not available yet. “Our shifter handle will NOT fit onto the agitator of an older base that was originally ordered with the standard or old spider handle. You will have to purchase the re-fit kit to switch agitators which will be available shortly. ” I emailed them asking about when we could buy one, and the price. It think this would be great for an Ollie with one caveat - you can’t reverse the rotation direction. I sometimes “stir” backwards to loosen things up. I still might get one. I would like to be able to stir without bending over so much, plus this would clear the waste bin way better. But most importantly, when you are sitting there you can pretend you are a race car driver. Vroom vrooooom! EDIT: I received a prompt email from Angela, “The shifter refit kit is available and it $65 and $15.85 shipping.“ John Davies Spokane WA

  3. Nature's Head also makes a foot crank option that might fit.

  4. We're in North Carolina, but our friend brought Lake Erie Walleye down from PA. Omg. Best dinner in a really long time. Walleye is truly the king of white flakey fish. Cooked it in a foil packet, like shore lunch.

  7. It's not "cheating" to enjoy a campsite, and an amazing park. The great thing about our trailers is that we can enjoy a variety of landscapes and access. It's all good. Ps, you don't have to plug in if you don't want to. We almost never do. And we've found that often, the best campsites are the toughest, and don't have hookups. Perfect for us. 🙂

  9. The ratcheting shifter handle looks like it would work, too.

  10. Add a small Walmart flip top trashcan to the front of the toilet (one sized to fit under the TP toll and toilet vent.) Put ALL paper products in the can, none should ever go down the head. This dramatically eases turning - there is nothing like a long string of paper wrapped around the stirring arms to make it hard to rotate. A spritz of vinegar into the can keeps the odors away. The three arms are simple threaded rod, you could easily fabricate longer ones for more leverage. I have increasing loss of hand strength (neuropathy) and do not find the NH to be a problem, so far. Keep in mind that it would be super simple to retrofit a flush toilet - all the main items including black tank, vent and water supply remain in place. Only the flange and big hole would have to be added. You could sell your used NH on Craigslist for $300. John Davies Spokane WA

  11. I agree that the new F-250's 7.3 liter is the truck to really consider if you want to avoid the high cost of diesel hitting you when you drive off the lot, pull into the pump, and inevitably find yourself in the shop. The design of the 7.3 is dead simple and it *should* be one of Ford's most reliable engines to date. If the LC doesn't work out for us, I'm finding it hard to consider anything other than the new F-250 or a used Tundra.

  12. One more item about the HD’s and diesel. Visibility large mirrors and large blind spot mirror. Most now extent out if more visibility is needed. And don’t forget the best item I found, engine braking. Travel down a steep mountain set the speed and let the engine brake do the work less wear on brakes that could heat up and sometimes fail due to overheating. Forgot to add mirrors are also heated no fog up lane departure warning and additional turn signals. Big benefits when towing

  13. Or just throw in the towel and go to a 3/4 diesel - of your choice. Save a step......

  14. But how fast with an Oliver in tow, now that is the question. National RV Drag championships may be in order. The off-road RV cross country race, or not. I find it very interesting - much faster, quicker, and costly than the old hot rods of my youth. We probably weren't as fast as we remember.....there is a song n there somewhere. I'll stick with my Diesel, steady and strong. RB

  15. As it fills the handle does get harder to turn. It isn't something I find that difficult, especially compared with the efforts of having to dump a black tank. As to effort on ageing limbs, I'd say the composting is slightly ahead, either way - it requires work when it comes to emptying the composting unit every two to three weeks, verses the black tank much more often. Not to mention the required water. If I was primarily a "full hook up" camper I'd go with the regular toilet. But we try to stay away from "civilized" campgrounds and the composting unit works well for us.

  16. I’ll be watching this as Oliver starts putting in Lithium. I don’t know how long my AGM’s will last but when replacement time comes I’ll be using everyone’s lessons learned. Mike

  17. I've had three ecoboost vehicles, and would prefer that over a V8. The f150 with the HDPP (heavy duty payload package) and ecoboost would be my pick for a gas TV. Only downside is the HDPP is rare, and it generally excludes many of the other safety features like blindspot monitoring. For 2021, that's no longer the case, but the 2021s are not available on the used market yet 🙂. Some say turbos are unreliable, but they are generally quieter than a v8. Hidden in my answer: the TV that won't struggle in the mountains has forced induction. We crossed a few 9000+ foot passes in the last few weeks. A 5.0 V8 loses about a 100 horsepower at that altitude. Turbo engines generally aren't as effected, especially in the lower RPM region that is nice and quiet.

  18. The 2021 Ram TRX debuted today. 702 HP and 650 torque from a 6.2L Supercharged V8. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Starts at $70K, nicely equipped around $90K. Towing is only 8220 lbs and payload is 1350 lbs, not exactly optimal for towing a camping trailer while carrying some camp gear. Looks nice though!

  19. That's a really beautiful truck. With a price tag to match the horsepower.

  20. This is Canyon Point USFS Campground. It’s about 30 miles east of Payson, AZ. 7,700 feet, perfect weather in early August (low 50s at night, high 70s afternoon). There are two loops, some sites have 30a hookups, most do not. Highly recommended.

  21. Jason, good info. John's comments bring up the difference between campers and travelers. We are more on the "traveler" side, going somewhere to see the sites and visit interesting landmarks, parks and historic places. We prefer hook ups, but are not limited to only FHU campgrounds. We spent time out in the desert at Quartzsite and at Joshua Tree NP boondocking as well as other places that were not developed. Our trailers adapt well to all conditions! We are going to visit as many National Parks as possible with or without hook ups. With regards to Texas, the state has a nice network of State Parks, from the lush Caddo Lake SP on the LA border to beach camping at Mustang Island SP near Corpus Christi on the gulf to the second largest US canyon at Palo Duro SP near Amarillo to the high desert at Davis Mountains SP in west Texas and lots of other interesting places in between. Big Bend NP is a great visit as is Guadalupe Mountains NP. We've also stayed at nice COE parks around the state for next to nothing with our senior pass. The bigness of the state allows for great geographic diversity. Mike

  22. Thanks for posting. I do want to comment that "best camping spots" are not always the same as "best places to visit". Not everyone has the same requirements and desires for camping. My "best" is certainly way different from those who want to pay for a spot to plug in all the time on an asphalt slab and play golf. Texas has some very cool stuff but there are hardly any free public lands other than National and State Parks. It's pretty much all private and has limited access, or none at all. For those campers who avoid those types of campgrounds, like me, that really limits my options. If you like to really explore the back country, you have to drive out of the state. Or own your own enormous ranch, I guess... http://www.wideopenspaces.com/public-land-texas-brief-history/ Just saying..... free federal land access really opens up the possibilities. I don't plan to visit Texas, other than en route to somewhere else. John Davies Spokane WA

  23. I think the taco is the sort of truck you tow with a few times, make some posts about how well it does and how much you love it, then quietly trade in for a half ton.
