  1. So glad I posted this topic! So much great advice and help here 🙌 I wanted you all to know I was able to get a REALLY good deal on a NEW 2020 F150 3.5L V6 Ecoboost. Up to 10,500 towing on this one. It was very hard to find as most of the F150s in my price range would always end up being either the 2.7 or the 3.3 V6 once I clicked through to get more info. I knew that I was going to have to settle on a "lower end" model compared to the Tacoma I got, but what I ended up getting is basically the same tier! I am not having to spend too much after my trade in as well because this dealership is offering some pretty great incentives 😃 Heading out to the Dallas area this weekend to trade the Tacoma in and pick up the Ford. Looking forward to it! This is hilarious because my wife has always wanted a Land Cruiser! One day!

  2. 6'3". 295#. The twin works fine for me. I sleep with my head to the front which gives me room to hang over a foot if I need to. Shoulder room has not been an issue. sometimes I turn to face the side and bend my knees. The first night or two I did have a little adjustment but I compare this the same as getting a new mattress. After about 12 nights total I do not even think about it. I have not tried sleeping with my feet at the rear yet. Maybe I will try that sometime but I like my head near the end I use a CPAP and I put the machine in the top cabinet and the hose just hangs down with the door left open. This set up seems to work. 3. I was thumbing through Victron's products and ran across their new(ish?) Smart Shunt, which I hadn't seen before. It looks like a great alternative to their BMV-712 battery monitor, which has become so popular with Ollie owners. With the Smart Shunt, there is no external display to worry about - the bluetooth module is built in and it communicates directly with the Victron Connect app on your phone. As a bonus, it appears to be about $50 cheaper.

  4. Installing a Garmin wireless camera with protective guard, to communicate with a Garmin GPS in the tow vehicle (mine is a RV660LMT). Here is a teaser shot: I had to take several deep breaths before I started drilling holes in the hull, but after the first one it was easy. The trailer is pretty dirty, I haven't been able to wash off 3000 miles of road grit yet. Lots more coming soon. John Davies Spokane WA

  5. Last year we met Wayne and Gayle while camping at Mount Pisgah NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They were very interested in Ollie and we gave them a complete Ollie tour. Late last year they purchased a new LE2. While camping at Mount Pisgah this week, we saw another Ollie. It was Wayne and Gayle with their new Ollie. Congrats Wayne and Gayle on your beautiful Ollie! First time we saw an Ollie was also at Mount Pisgah during 2010 and the kind owners from Florida gave us a complete Ollie tour, too. It's $10 per night at Mount Pisgah with the geezer card. No electricity or water at the sites, but very nice campground at 5,000' with cool summer temps! Took this shot in the early morning clouds: B27 walkup site:

  6. Agree, we like hiking to local waterfalls, drives on the BRP, and cool temps in the summer. When it's 90's and humid at home, we go to Mt. Pisgah to find cooler temps and beautiful views on the BRP!

  7. One of our favorites, too. The view from the campsite isn't much, but, omg, the views from the restaurant at Pisgah Inn across the road. In the morning. Breakfast view through the floor to ceiling windows is amazing. Layered mountain views seem to go on forever. Even if breakfast weren't outstanding (which it is), it would be worth the price just for the views.

  9. Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated. The BC-30 is “adequate”, that is about it. The new model, which I just now heard of - thank you - should offer a slightly better picture quality, though it still suffers from a slow frame rate of 15 fps. If you do this mod, please post some pictures of your display so we can get an idea of the difference in video quality. I would not swap mine for the new model unless it failed, but it is nice to know they have finally updated this. John Davies Spokane WA

  10. This is mostly excellent advice, but for those who may not know, it isn’t a new situation ..... I built a system just like this, except I used a Blu Sea marine rotary select switch instead of a big control relay, and I went with fat 00 welding cable from the truck’s alternator positive and battery negative posts, to self resetting relay, to a double Andersen 175 amp winch disconnect at the bumper. For two regular 100 amp hr lead acid batteries in my “stick and staple” Nash, it charged much faster than traditional smaller gauge wiring would have. I would start the truck, let the truck battery charge for five minutes, then switch all the output to the rear for half an hour of flatland highway towing, then I would hop out and switch to Both for the rest of the trip. Crude, yes. I never flattened the Suburban’s battery. This was In 1988. For stationary charging a raised idle speed is useful but not 100% required. Alternators are not very effective at 800 rpm. For those towing every few days, I would recommend this, especially if you can do the work yourself, which just requires common sense and two sets of special crimpers. An automotive electric shop could do it, but I wouldn’t trust your average general garage to do a safe and adequate job. The big wires have to be routed out of the way of all hazards and also covered with a protective split loom. I personally would be reluctant to idle long periods of time with a gas engine in the campground, unless you were completely alone. With any diesel engine, long term idling is NOT recommended. “manufactures usually will classify applications with high idle times as severe duty and recommend a more aggressive maintenance schedule.“ .... https://learndiesels.com/8-idle-facts/ John Davies Spokane WA

  13. Hi again Susan, I'm trying to work through al these emails. No, you can not harm LiFeBlue by leaving them connected to the alternator for any length of time. No need to do anything with fuses. Just hook up and have an adventure.
