  1. Hi Sherry, I used to be an ornithologist (biologist who studies birds), and one of my jobs was sage grouse. We had multiple tasks. One of the tasks was just finding, trapping, aging, putting on backpacks that monitored movements. Because we were in a remote location in western CO, we had to live in a low-quality travel trailer that was towed to state-owned property very high up in the mountains. We basically lived on the side of a mountain just above aspen trees. Then we would take ATVS out to do our jobs, riding 45 mph around to get wherever we needed to get, racing the afternoon thunderstorms. As the states don't have much $, especially when it comes to biology, we lived in trailers that didn't work (and only get hired for 6 months at a time that way we stayed temp with no benefits). They would give us a battery and gas, but the only thing that worked was gas for cooking food. We had to bring our own water. It was really cold, I mean really cold. I wore the 7 layers of clothes and was still freezing. I had the clearest skin I ever had because my skin was exposed to the air for literally 5 minutes in a day when I changed my clothes as fast as possible because it was so cold. So essentially I lived in a hard-sided tent. It was hard work. Great to be outside.

  2. Hello Everyone, This is a big thank you to everyone at Oliver and in this forum for all of your great responses and assistance in the past months since I discovered Oliver and joined. Unfortunately, circumstances have changed having nothing whatsoever to do with Oliver. My desire to purchase a new Elite I remains strong. Oliver is, without a doubt, the best in the industry. But, for now, I need to postpone my order. I didn't want to disappear (for the time being) without thanking everyone at Oliver and in this forum. You all rock! This is my last post until I reappear. Thank you for everything and please know I wish everyone the best! Happy trails, Pennie

  4. When we purchased our 2015 Oliver was no help in getting the TV audio to the radio speakers. I determined how it should be done, at the time I sent the written procedure to our sales person,, who knows what he did with it. Attached is my procedure that works for us. 7. After enjoying our first few years of retirement traveling extensively in a teardrop, we compiled quite a list of "musts" and "wants"...not to mention a few "heck no's"! One thing was for sure, we were tired of crawling in and out, walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and making our coffee outside before we were really ready to see and be seen ๐Ÿ™‚ We were used to excellent customer service and a high quality product. The struggle was how to upsize our home away from home without scaling down the quality. Then we met a couple in a similar situation who asked us if we'd ever heard of an Oliver. David said, "Sure! They made tractors right?" The next four weeks of our National Park adventures were spent scouring the internet for every video and forum available. We also hoped to see an Oliver along the way. As fate would have it, we pulled into a campsite next to the first Oliver we'd seen. It was love at first sight! We decided to visit the factory on our way home (who doesn't like Tennessee anyway, right?) The tour sealed the deal. David spent his entire career in new model development for the auto industry and liked what he saw. At the end of the tour we placed our order and are happy to say we are "in the queue"! This Oliver will be in our family for a really long time, and we're happy to be joining a new family of like minded travelers. Happy trails!

  8. Well, I am in the middle of my 7 week trek from California to Maine and back. I attached the inverter to a larger piece of marine grade plywood and used velcro-type fastener to attach this board to the inside of the seat enclosure. I have lost a drawer that won't stay closed - duct tape works well, but the inverter has remained affixed to its mount. No issues. John

  10. Many of us here in Ollie World are familiar with the beautiful woodwork of fellow Oliver owner Foy Sperring. Not long ago he introduced an extended dinette that adds 5โ€ to the length, itโ€™s been a very popular model. Our 2021 Oliver Elite II was ordered without the fiber granite (not an option on 2022 models), so we could invest that money into Foyโ€™s woodwork. Andrew K suggested to me the dinette could be improved by adding 2โ€ width on each side. We took a chance and asked Foy to make us a complete set of tops and cutting board in walnut. We also ordered the drawer organizers. We are thrilled with the outcome! The extra 5โ€ length, 4โ€ overall dinette width, is a good size, and looks great too. Itโ€™s amazing how much extra space is now available to us for dinner, and we donโ€™t have to scoot way forward on the seat cushion to eat. The walnut looks terrific, but I think mahogany or other woods are beautiful too. This dinette top will not work as a bed, but we still have the fiberglass top if we take the grandchildren camping. We are very grateful we have a master craftsman like Foy on our team, I strongly recommend his products.

  13. Yes you can program to use the speakers - our 2018 was set to do so - I can not remember the process and alas we no longer have Ollie to use as reference. The instruction manual had the details. Good Luck. RB Formerly of #359

  14. My husband's home state, NY, has many favorites for us. Assuming you are going the 90 or the 20, then up toward New England... Alleghany State Park, South of Buffalo, near Salamanca, is beautiful. I have no recommendations for camping by the Niagara Falls, because we always driveway camp in the Buffalo area, with my SIL on her beautiful acreage, but my friend spent several days at the KOA up there, and found it a great place for exploring the Falls area. Heading east, don't miss Letchworth state park, the "Grand Canyon of the east." It's truly beautiful, nice campsites, and lots to explore. It's just a bit off 20A, heading towards Rochester. Most times that we've camped in the Adirondack, It's been cold and rainy fall weather, but pretty . On the shore of Lake Champlain, Ausable point is a favorite. We'd sit and watch the boats and the ferry on the lake. Very peaceful, in the fall. If you are traveling with a pet in NY state, make sure you have your pet's rabies vax paperwork with you. One of the few times I wasn't carrying Liv's papers, because we weren't going into Canada, I had to call my vet, and have her certificate faxed. If we'd been after hours, it would have been a bummer.

  17. Iโ€™d be interested in any recommendations for replacement hoses, too. Ours are over 5 years old, looked okay when we started this trip but will go check them as soon as the rain stops! Mike

  18. This should be a close enough topic: Has any Oliver owner had to replace the (2) high pressure propane hoses yet? Whilst camping this week, I opened the propane tank valve and heard a hiss coming out of the 4 year old hose on the primary side (right tank). I promptly closed it and proceeded to shift over to the left tank and did not hear anything and got the green indicator for a full tank. It Seemed OK and went on a recovered the tanks with the fiberglass lid. Later, My wife, who has an acute sense of smell, caught the non mistakable odor of propane. Immediately closed the left tank and examined both hoses and they were severely cracked and obviously leaking. We did then enjoy camping sans propane via campfire. Now I am looking at the etrailer website for appropriate hoses and wondering if anyone else has experienced this and is there a better replacement?

  19. Yep, @Corvus is correct. This is the regulator that Oliver has installed in the past, maybe still. (Not a bad item to have a spare of, btw, along with a replacement pigtail.)

  20. You have to discount the $8500 by the cost of upgrade from lead-acid to AGM, less the price difference between 2000w and 3000w inverter. I don't know the current costs; yes, I'm a retired bean counter ๐Ÿ˜

  21. GAP, curious whether the Xantrex techs that said it wasn't suggested gave any reasons (I'm assuming they know it works). The one's that said it doesn't work should actually get some hands on experience with the devices as opposed to thinking they understand everything just from manuals - IMHO of course! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I've used this software switch (off is really on wrt the charger btw) literally dozens of times since I discovered it and it works every time without throwing any error codes. If I trip the breaker like I used to, I get the infamous Xantrex [20] lost communication error code - per design if you throw the breaker rather than a bug. So, I respectfully disagree with the Xantrex tech(s) that said it doesn't work. I think if it's bad for anything it's not the batteries - so I'd much rather replace the cheap Inverter than the Lithiums. I also appreciate the savings I'm getting avoiding rotator cuff surgery if I had to continuously reach under the bed for that breaker like I used to. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. I have an aluminum box on the tongue to hold chocks, blocks, gloves, etc. It has been very handy since itโ€™s the first thing I open when we arrive on site. The generator (when we take it) is in the bed of the truck. We only use the generator to charge batteries when the solar canโ€™t keep up so being in the bed is no big deal. Itโ€™s also only 37 lbs so it is easy to lift.
