  1. Thanks for the comments. When using a 2400 watt generator, I want to be able to keep my bulky and expen$ive 30 amp shore power cable secured away from sight, and instead use a heavy conventional extension cord with an 18 inch pigtail adapter at the trailer. I don’t want a heavy cable hanging off the generator from a small adapter as pictured above. Does that make sense? What adapters, if any, usually come with the trailer besides the cable? I am unlikely to use this setup except for running the air conditioning or charging on cloudy days. Not both simultaneously. John Davies Spokane WA

You get the 15 amp adapter and the plug for the open ground. I suppose you're going to have to make your oun cord, with the locking 30 amp connector and the plug for the open ground. The 15 amp adapter won't plug directly into the trl.

  2. Thank you for the info John. Tomorrow night I’ll be doing my first boondocking adventure. If temperatures get cold and I need some heat do I simply place the thermostat on furnace and fan set to auto?

Actually, John has the older style of thermostat. Leave it on auto because if you set it on low, it will use both the AC and the heater… Strange… But true ???? one of my next projects is to change this…

Geo, your description is correct, when boondocking mode on furnace fan on auto or low furnace cycles on and off. I think Reed was referring to the mode switch set to auto, at which point the heat pump( if you have one installed) will try to engage, but it can't without ac power.

  3. Hi Ollie Owners,

Anyone planning to buy their Fiamma Privacy Room in 2017? If so, I would value any insights on your ordering process. Since several parts need to be special ordered from Italy, I thought the delivery timetable could be challenging. Your experiences (good and not so good) from start to finish would be very helpful.

It looks like Steve will be able to help us understand how to adapt the installation to the Ollie hull. Valuable information to have!

For me, it looks like my new puppy, Buddy, will eat up most of my 2017 budget. Oh well, I suspect he will be worth every penny.

.Buzzy, we ordered a fiamma privacy room about the same time you did, have you heard anything at all from them? We're taking deliver of our Oliver on may 1. Scubarx have you completed your skirting solution? Thanks
  4. The prime reason for going with the solar array was so we would have power for a C-pap machine wherever we are. Guess my next research will be to see how long we can run it without having to plug in. Would loved to have enough power to run it, a few lights, and a furnace for 3 or more days…

Canoe 12, I'm not an expert by any means, but from everything I've read the major differences between pwm and mppt charging profiles are at the extremes (freezing weather- low battery voltage) normal conditions are marginal at best, (read "handy bob" or trimetric sites). I would think you will be just fine, especially if you go with the agm batteries, it seems that they charge at a faster rate, and you can draw them down farther with no damage.

  5. Thanks to everyone for their posts. I've done quite a bit of research since my original post, I've come to the conclusion that the zamp gear would be sufficient for our needs.it seems that the differences between the two types of controllers is minimal at the wattages of our panels, so I'm willing to trade off the extra power for the benefits of the pwm charging profile and ease of use.

  6. oliver is in the process of building our trailer (completion mid may?). Just trying to decide whether to stick with the zamp, or possibly upgrade to the blue sky. I've been following reed's post on his experiences with the zamp and I'm unsure which way I want to go. I guess it really comes down to your preferred camping style, boondocking, full hookups, or a combination of the two. This is the best description I've seen yet for someone like me still on the fence.

  7. I'm leaning heavily towards the privacy room mainly for the extra room it provides for our 12 year old beagle, he gets restless and has to "find another place" to sit. Does the center rafter come with the awning? I to have had awnings bow in the middle from rain.

  8. Thanks, we dealt with Heather, she gave us a tentative date of feb 19, she was working around the schedules. The motorcycle is a Honda goldwing and the thought of riding a 900 lb motorcycle up a ramp into the bed of my truck makes me awfully nervous. I appreciate your response, I have learned an awful lot of information from this forum, this is the first time I have actually joined one, I'm more of a lurker.
