  1. It is made by camp chef. I think we got it from Sportsman's Guide although other outfitter's sell it. We used it on a wood picnic table lots of times with no ill effect's. When on the plastic table we put a wood cutting board under it just to be safe.

I notice that Coleman now has a oven/cooktop that looks similar but with better looking controls. We have been discussing giving the Coleman version a try.

One thing about using a extra propane tank is that a Coleman distribution tree mounts firmly on top that has several tank pressure (liquid propane) outlets and a place on top for a propane light.

Here is a link to the Coleman oven video:

  2. We received a couple of PM's asking why two cooktops with four burners in addition to a oven. The quick answer is convenience. Whether we are out on our favorite lake at 900 feet of elevation or up high in the Rocky Mountains at ten thousand plus feet, we will get a early start. The propane light comes on at around 0430 hours and first thing you know Betty has Biscuits in the oven, coffee percolating, gravy bubbling in the pan, sausage frying and eggs on that last burner. By that time I have the campsite all rounded up and after breakfast we are off on another day of adventure. Now, that is a whole lot going on at once ! And I have learned to be busily out of the way while Betty works her magic. As I gen around the campsite at altitude I can hear those propane regulators making a high pitched sound and as each burner shuts down I know that the reduced sound means that breakfast is nearly ready. By the time I am drying my hands at the hand washing station, she will be calling, "it's on the table !"

  4. Welcome to the Oliver Forums ! There is a lot to help you in your decision making process to be found here. The aluminum frame was mentioned and rightly so for it is the foundation on which quality can be built. Here is a short video that I shot during a visit to the Oliver factory.

  5. An inexpensive INFRARED THERMOMETER can let you know if your NEVER LUBE bearings and your NEVER ADJUST brakes are doing their job ! But there is much more to be learned from that quick check at a rest stop. Here is a link to a previously posted article that is still very relevant, even with our Oliver's newest technology:

Here is a look at our axle, spindle, brake shoes, seal and drum after spending nearly three months down on Padre Island, Beach Camping.

  6. My power source for the macerator is an automobile jump start rechargeable battery pack. Here is a photo. We have had it so long that it doesn't hold it's charge as long as it should. It is time to replace it. I just clamp the color coded cables to the like in color wires on the macerator.

We use a 5/8" hose similar to this for simple storage and dis infecting.

Storing and cleaning that corrugated hose might be more difficult ?

  7. Buzzy, the one in your link is the one that we use. We ordered it from a internet discount house with the plastic hard case. The hard case has proven to be a good choice when it comes time to disinfect everything. Never have had to use the spare "o" ring that came with it. The push button has never been used because we hook a rechargeable battery pack to it and switch it on and off with the jumper packs power switch.

Our 5/8' canvas looking flat, reel up hose has been quite handy flushes out well and stores in it's easily disinfected case/reel.

  8. Steve, we are day tripping to the lake, not camped out. We hope to move out to the lake at Big Fir campground after the fourth of July, most of the crazies will have left the lake by then.

  9. Nothing can destroy a camping trip quicker than a red, oozing, itchy rash, from contact with vegetation. Many years ago, deep in the Arkansas outback of America's heartland, I was taught this axiom to help with identification. Maybe it will be helpful to others on these forums.
