  1. At the rally earlier this month there were a few owners that had awning damage from the strong storms that blew through. One directly across from us lost their entire awning and asked if I could haul it to the dumpster area for them since I had a truck. I did so, but before I did I cannibalized any undamaged parts that I could carry with the intent of offering them here for any owner that might need any of them.

The awning was a Carefree awning.

I salvaged the fabric, support arms, and several other pieces of hardware.

If any of you are in need of any parts that I may have, just let me know.

  2. After a recent job of cleaning and waxing followed by a rain I am noticing some "fairly minor" black streaking from the rubber gaskets behind the exterior lights. It seems to wipe off pretty easily so far (since I am catching it early) - wonder if anyone else is having an issue with streaking and if so, what are you doing to prevent it or correct it?

I was told when I asked about streaking problems during our delivery that we might want to apply a bead of clear RTV sealant around those seals/gaskets in order to better seal and prevent any streaking. Has anyone done this and do you have any advice about whether to do it or not?

  3. Ours is fairly new (Feb delivery) so not a lot of experience but we did ask a lot of questions at the plant and here on the forum.

We have been washing with a turtle wash/wax solutions when dirty and after the last wash I put the first coat of wax on it. Based on recommendations I plan to do at least yearly but possibly two times a year. We went to a West Marine and asked for recommendations and this is the product that they told us was best/most popular:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSZRRWU/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It goes on as a liquid with a microfiber towel and is polished off before it turns to haze....not terribly difficult to do but somewhat time consuming. Like other have suggested I think the key is to stay on top of the finish and not let it get oxidized.

We also are using the serious shine that they were using at the plant for the inside.

  4. Here's one you don't experience every day.

We set up camp at Lake Griffin State Park near the Villages in Florida so we can visit with friends who live there. After getting everything settled we meet them about one mile from the park at a local restaurant/bar to enjoy some drinks, food and good company. While there, another friend of theirs also comes in and says "hey, there is a fire at the state park and they are evacuating the campground -  all people and their campers". In a panic we set out to see if we can pull the Ollie out to guaranteed safety.....as we drive in that direction we see the billowing smoke and helicopters in the air. When we arrive we are stopped by a police office who declares no one can enter. Now we are left to wait and watch for another couple hours.

In the end it turned out okay - no damage and no real evidence (other than smell of smoke in the air) that the fire got close to our campsite.

We both laughed and said that in our previous camper we would have moved it to the site closest to the flames and hoped for the best :-) but not the Oliver!

  5. Yes, except the ones on mine appear in worse shape.

Jason called me back yesterday and like some of you suggested it is for a seal to keep water running down the camper and the white seal (one that is compressed) poses no problem other than cosmetic. He also suggested that applying some heat and working it back into place will likely improve the appearance. I plan to do that and hopefully in warmer weather it will improve.

  6. It looks like it may be trapped under those screws a bit. You can try getting up on a ladder and pulling on it to see if it will pull away from the screws and lift into place. Might help to hit it with a hair dryer to soften it up and reshape it around that plate.

Overland, I did get up there and look and try to reposition it (without adding any heat). It does not appear to be the screws holding it out of place. Seal seems to be pretty dense foam and is pressed out of shape and since it (awning) is in the closed position more than not, it is holding that shape. I am convinced it is the black plastic on the awning because it is evident at every location where they are but the one in the photo I posted is the worst one. I "think" that seal is cosmetic only but cannot be sure since it being out of place exposes the screws. It doesn't look good either way.

  7. We are on our first trip in the Ollie since the acceptance and things are going great but I did notice what looks like an issue with the way the Care Free awning stows against the hull and is apparently damaging a seal. The outside part of the awning (metal part that extends away from the hull when deployed) has some heavy plastic pieces bolted to them that press against the seal above the door area (and all along that side). See attached photo. I am not sure what purpose they serve but there are a couple of them and they are both causing a problem.

The damaged seal (also pictured) above the porch light is pushed down apparently by that plastic piece and is now exposing some screws. In addition to not looking good I am concerned that this may also result in additional problems.

Has anyone else with the Care Free awning seen evidence of this problem? If so, has it been addressed by Oliver Travel Trailers yet?

I left a voice message with Jason Essary this afternoon and am waiting for a return call now.

  8. I added an external satellite TV today but not without trouble/questions on the Oliver part of the install. Hoping that some of you may offer some insight based on your experience.

On delivery I was told that in order to add the external satellite all I needed to do was run the coax to the appropriate external receptacle and then hook the inside coax (located in the top/rear cabinet) to the receiver (Dish). Then the three RCA type cables (red/white - audio and yellow - video) to the back of the TV. (At least that is what I understood when I asked the question).

Unfortunately that did not provide a signal from the Dish receiver to the TV.  I tried changing the input source on the TV to every setting with no success. Upon closer inspection I saw that there was an HDMI cable already plugged into the TV but I am not sure where the other end goes? I expected that should be in the cabinet to be used for the Dish receiver but it wasn't three? If not - where does it go?

So I unplugged the HDMI from the TV and ran another HDMI cable from the TV to the Dish receiver and it works perfectly...only problem is I now have an HDMI cable that is not properly routed....this is a temporary work around but I'd like to get a more permanent acceptable solution.

    Any help appreciated.

BTW - I left a message at OTT (Richie Carroll - who did my delivery/acceptance). Is there a different POC that would be more appropriate for this line of questions? If so, a name and number would be appreciated

  9. Love your interior, and it’s nice to see what the new t.v. location looks like. I’m very confused about the hull number – we pick up in June, and Anita told me just last week that our hull number is 310! I wonder if I misunderstood her.

Thanks Allison - not sure what to tell you about the hull numbers...we had no idea what hull number we were getting until the day we picked her up.

  10. Ps I see that your profile picture is on board lulubell, out of Valdez. Great captain and crew. And isn’t that a beautiful vessel? If you head back in your trailer, I recommend camping (free) in old Valdez, near the water…

Yes - that was a great day we spent on the LuLu Belle with Captain Fred. Would love to get back in the Ollie

  11. We took possession of our Ollie this week.

We spent two nights camping locally (Natchez Trace) which turned out to be a great idea as it gave us time to field test all of the systems and get comfortable.

We are now home and planning the maiden voyage - a three week loop thru south Florida.

Happy Campers with big plans - looking at her makes us want to leave home.

  12. Tahiles ,

    Congratulations!

I am curious to hear about your delivery and cold weather camping in the Hohenwald area (where you stay) and how it goes. We are scheduled to pick up our Ollie on 12 February which may also prove to be pretty cold. We are planning to do some cold weather camping in that area for several days and put all systems to the test. We've been caught in some cold weather before for short periods of time but never planned to do any cold weather camping....should be a good test for us and the camper!

We will be heading to warmer weather camping (Florida) after that for several weeks.

  13. Scotty - thanks for the detailed description and the photos. I really like the idea and will be interested in how you end up completing the top shelf. I was wondering if a thin sheet of aluminum properly supported might be a good option and still be easy to remove when not camping. I guess the big question is how to support it? We have similar storage issues as you ...golf clubs (two sets) to go along with the other necessities. I stopped by a truck accessory dealer today after reading this to speak with them about the slide. Not sure I will pull the trigger on it but it sure looks like the best set up for us also.

  14. Still have restricted access because we also have a cargo glide.

Thanks Scotty....I'll report how things work for me.

I have been looking into different storage options for the truck bed....camper shell, tonneau cover, cargo slide. You're the first (and only) person I know that uses the cargo slide so I'm curious if you like it and would recommend it. Do you also use a cover of some sort?

  15. I was not aware that I could get an extra “basement” access door. Are you talking about an extra storage bin/door underneath the top door of the nightstand?

It is not "extra" storage....just extra access to existing basement storage from the inside.

Apologies for the mis-information on the table :-(

  16. Hi Peter and Patty,

I may not be the best qualified to answer but I will tell you what I know and what I think.

I know that you cannot get the extra basement access door if you choose to get the lagun table...so for that reason we opted to not get it and instead add a table of our own if needed.

What I think - it does not swivel, nor does it drop down to make a king bed. In fact I am not sure what the storage options are for it if any but I think it can be removed.

We recently placed our order for the twin bed option but have not taken possession yet.

  17. A close friend/traveling couple just bought a travel trailer (not an Oliver) and they were surprised to learn that they could not open the tailgate of their truck while it was hooked up because the front jack apparatus was in the way.... they had to unhook in order to get into the bed of their truck which can be very inconvenient! I am hopeful that I will not experience that when I pick up our Oliver? We will be towing with an F250....will I have an issue there? Are any of you that tow with a pick up truck having that issue? If so, are there adjustments that can be made in the way you set it up that will overcome the problem?
