  1. Thanks.  This being the case I may be able to use the charger I have for my motorcycle after all.  This is the one I have:

    https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SP1297-Automatic-Battery-Maintainer/dp/B0756PV96N/ref=sr_1_17?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt7D927_l5QIVyB6tBh3kYgZiEAAYASAAEgI-u_D_BwE&hvadid=174223006284&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9029574&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=1694643076319705681&hvtargid=kwd-2152926210&hydadcr=24627_9648891&keywords=schumacher+battery+charger&qid=1573590051&sr=8-17

So understanding that this CAN be done, is there one charging configuration that is better than the others (2x 12V vs. 4x 6V vs. 1x 12V?  Any advantages of one over another?

I am considering a lithium upgrade next season but not sure yet as it will have to include a new charger and I would probably upgrade the inverter as well.  Go Blue!  :)

  2. Hope everyone had a good weekend.  We saw the new movie MIDWAY yesterday and it was awesome!

Our 2017 has 4 trojan 6V flooded with the hydralink system.  I topped off the water today and removed the neg cables to the trailer. The RV is in covered storage for the winter so the solar is not help for the batteries and there is no power available.  So the logical course is to remove the 4 batteries and bring them home and put them on a charger.

The question is, how to charge them and on what charger?  I have a charger for my motorcycle battery but that is probably not enough.  Do I charge the batteries as TWO banks of 12V,  4 banks of 6V or one bank of 12V?  I think the highest the motorcycle charger goes is 3A.

Thanks!  And happy Verteran's day tomorrow to all who served!!!!!!!!!

  3. Last week I received my eze gutter order from Amazon. Two 10’ rolls @ $27 each. Polar white. I installed these a few years ago on a hot spring day which was followed by a norther that night with temps going from the 80s to 30s. My ends curled up. With temps in the 100s the next week I’m hoping that won’t happen again. I’ve had them unrolled in the hot garage for a week to ensure they will be nice and pliable. Ensuring they go on a clean surface is key. Mike

Did you just use alcohol to prep the surface or mineral spirits?

  4. I was going to buy a 25ft roll of this on Amazon but with shipping it comes to almost $64.  I can get a 50ft roll at camping world for not much more.  I think their advertised price is $85 but it will be less with their club discount.  I'll know the exact price later this evening.  If anyone would like to split a roll (25ft should be enough) let me know.

  5. I thought about making my own also be from the inside.  Putting a good bead of silicone adhesive around the inside perimeter where the vents are and shape a piece of SS screen mesh so it fits around the vents and  press into the silicone bead.

  6. I wish OTT used inserts for 5/8″ vice 1/2″ bolts. I was reading some older threads about 1/2″ grade 8 bolts on the telescoping tongues shearing off. Scary stuff.

    Jitters,

I have never heard of this. Where can I read about it? The main cross bolt on the telescoping tongue is very large and cannot shear off because the tongue telescopes. It only sees stress from braking and acceleration and the bolt seems stronger than the material around it. The smaller 7/16″ cross bolts in the bulldog hitch are under a shear load. Mine were beginning to elongate the holes in the coupler because the nuts had bottomed out on the threads before pinching the coupler tight to the tongue. The fix, while installing the 2 5/16″ coupler, was to add a couple of grade 8 washers on the bolts

I have never heard of any of these bolts shearing off.

Hi Raspy!  Granted this was a while ago....

  7. Jitters,

I’ve owned and used the Brahma Wheel Lock for about three years now. No real issue with installing it for storage. I’d have to check, but since my trailer came off the line in 2015, maybe the center wheel hub supplied was a bit shallower then.(?)

Without using the center “cone”, yes, all you’d do is take the wheel off, similar to many other brands. But, with the center”cone”, it’d take some definite “effort” to get the unit off to the point where you’d begin to take the lug nuts off.

“Deterrent” is the name of the game! If you went after it with a battery operated angle grinder for ten to fifteen minutes, you’d make a dent, a lot of sparks and noise, before you got to that point! Go find another unit to steal instead, is the idea.

Keep it very visible, so they can ponder how much effort it would be.

It’s the best I could find.

You can, pretty much, get through anything with time and the right tools.

    Best, Bob

Thanks Bob.  I wouldn't think of using it without the orange cone piece.  As you said, tire comes right off.  And anything can be overcome with time and tools...and noise.  I'm just looking for the best deterrent I can find since during camping season this will be parked in my driveway.

  8. Funny I was just posting about theft deterrence in the McHitch thread.

I seem to remember these being discussed before – or maybe it was a different brand but similar idea. I don’t know how you intend to use them, but personally I think for use while in storage, something like this is great – but it seems like bulky item to carry while traveling.

The the center covers do come off – you have to take the wheel off, but once off, they pop right out. It’s possible that you could find a lower profile cover to use instead, or just go without.

Thanks Overland!  That's what I was wondering...if the wheel needed to come of to swap out the covers.  It's not really very bulky.  The arms fold in so the lock can be stowed away flat.

  9. Seems like, by the time you get up to about 60 or so, that thing will really be flailing around back there! As a theft deterrent, what would prevent someone from just taking that wheel off, with the boot, and driving away with your trailer on three wheels? I see some of the pictures have a disk over the nuts, but not all of them do and I can’t tell if that would prevent taking the nuts off with a box end wrench, or a ratchet and short socket.

Hi Raspy.  I only took the photo with the hub disc off to show how close the center cover is to the lock without it.  Of course it has to be on to be effective.  I just cannot install properly with the standard hub covers on the Ollie.  I have to see if I can swap them  out with something shorter.

  10. Hi all.

Has anyone yet tried the Brahma wheel lock and had success on installing it?  I ordered one and cannot get it on.  Seems the center hub covers on the ollie stick out too much.  With the Brahma cone off I can get it on....though still a bit of a pain due to the limited clearance between the wheel skirting and the tire.

How do the center covers come off?  Do I have to remove the tires?  I want to see if shorter ones are available as replacements.

    Thanks
