  1. So the 2021 F150 option for an onboard 2000 watt generator has me thinking. a. Why did if take a manufacturer so long? b. Does anyone really want a 2000 watt generator with a >200 cu in engine? c. Wagers this is a >$1400 option?
  2. Anybody found a good box to store a honda 2000 in that will fit in the basket and allow the genertor to run in it?
  3. I have never owned a generator for a number of reasons. My solar panels on the roof of my Elite II plus a portable Zamp 125 watt panel have kept my batteries charged for years until the past couple of days. I was camped at Chinati Hot Springs in Texas for a couple of days and it was cloudy the last day I was there and also on the day I traveled to Las Cruces. Camped yesterday at a beautiful BLM campsite, but again, little or no sun. The forecast is for continued cloudy weather and rain tomorrow. So, I'm at an RV park connected to shore power. I would like to buy a generator that I'll use only to supplement my solar panels to keep my batteries charged and happy. I don't want a generator to run my A/C, so no need for a 3000-watt generator or a 2000- watt plus EZ Start. So, the first question: will a 1,000-watt generator do what I need it to do? Second, can I buy a generator that runs on propane that I can hook up to the propane quick-connect that I purchased as an option and have never used? Third, do I need a generator or a generator with an inverter? Fourth, Honda or Yamaha? Fifth, does the power cord that I use for shore power plug directly into the generator and then into the receptacle on the Ollie where you connect it when using shore power? As you can see, I know nothing about generators. Sixth, have I forgotten to ask an important question? Keep your responses simple recognizing that you are communicating with someone with very little understanding of the topic!
  4. EDIT 03/07/21 Here is a rear J Box: ... https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/topic/5271-how-to-junction-box-for-the-7-wire-trailer-harness-under-the-front-dinette-seat/ I did this a while back to get a little extra reach, I added an 8 ft harness assembly , cutting off the excess Oliver harness. I will just post pics and if you have any questions I will answer them. It is really straight forward, I liked how I could sit down in comfort and work on the box with it clamped to a milk crate. When completely wired, I just moved it back under the A frame and stuck it down with 3M VHB tape, and secured the cables. The Oliver and Hopkins wire colors matched perfectly on MY trailer, there is no guarantee so you must check the diagram and/or use a meter. https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/HM20087.html?feed=npn&gclid=Cj0KCQjw37fZBRD3ARIsAJihSr2jOZrEUWhhM8c-BzUk0FIRPKP91TUs7m8NtRYESlC3fWdjnLhiUUsaAtVtEALw_wcB https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Pollak/PK52248.html Be very careful cutting away the outer insulation, the wires are laid in a spiral and it would be easy to cut them. Use GREAT care! [attachment file=139739] Here's the placard for inside the J Box cover: [attachment file=Oliver Junction Box wiring placard.docx] I like the ability to troubleshoot the wiring without cutting anything, and I can add extra circuits if I need to, like for my future electric-over-hydraulic brake booster..... Cool. NOTE: the box is weather resistant, not completely water tight, though the lid does have a nice rubber gasket..... I added a couple of small drain holes in case any moisture gets inside. It is important to NOT blast it directly with a pressure washer. John Davies Spokane WA Oliver-Junction-Box-wiring-placard.docx
  5. I have a 2019 Elite with solar which I use almost exclusively for boondocking. The solar usually keeps up with my minimum power requirements, but on the last trip I needed additional battery charging during cold and overcast weather. I discovered that my generator was not providing any charge. Generator is a new Honda 2200i. Tested it by running a portable hair dryer and it revs to power the appliance. Tested the power cord and it is functioning perfectly. Shore power (at home) charges the batteries efficiently. But still nothing when connected to the generator. Any suggestions?
  6. I just saw this article and thought I would post it up. -Patriot Edit- Found this link and added it as well. It appears letters will be sent out to original purchasers. https://powerequipment.honda.com/support/recalls-and-updates Video: KHOU 340,000 Honda portable generators recalled for fire hazard Ten fires have already been reported. Author: Travis Pittman (TEGNA) Published: 5:06 AM EDT March 18, 2020 Updated: 5:08 AM EDT March 18, 2020 Honda is recalling about 340,000 portable generators because of a fire and burn hazard. Ten fires have already been reported. The recall is for Honda EB2200i, EU2200i, EU2200i Companion and EU2200i Camo Portable Generators. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the generator's inverter assembly can short circuit with the presence of saltwater. This can cause the unit to smoke or catch fire.
  7. Hi, I’ve been reading reviews and watching U-Tube on the pros and cons of Honda vs Yamaha 2000w inverter generators. I’ll link two together for 4K watts. I’m sure either would work just fine as both get tons of positive reviews. Since both are roughly the same price, does anyone here have real world experience that would make a wise decision Clearer? thx, Mac
  8. So in videos/pictures/diagrams of Ollies, it looks like there's an empty area to the side of the toilet. I can't tell if it's big enough for a small kitty litter box or not. It's the only area I've found that I could reasonably, perhaps, put one to bring the cat along. :) Thoughts? Thanks!
  9. Hello from the middle of nowhere BC! Our furnace quit a month or so ago but we have been staying warm with a Mr. Buddy propane heater. This morning, while generator was running to charge batteries, out of curiosity, I turned on heat strip. (We have rarely run geni in the a.m.) It came on for a few seconds but then quit & wouldn't come on again. Generator overload light came on. Other than kitchen lights, nothing else was on. Inside temp was 56, outside was 48. Its not crucial but it would be nice to know if this was user error &/or an easy fix. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Chris
  10. You may have seen my post seeking info on electrical input regarding the new to me Ollie I'm picking up before Thanksgiving. Yesterday at Costco, I saw this https://www.costco.com/a-ipower-1600w-running--2000w-peak-gasoline-powered-inverter-generator.product.100343958.html in store. Looks to me to be a possibility. Anyone have one? Pro's and con's??? At $449 and with Costco's customer service and return policy, I'm thinking about it. With very little knowledge, I'd say it looks like Yamaha's version of the well-regarded Honda 2000i?
  11. quickie-anyone know where the ac control box is? Would look like this (see photo). I have a dometic led thermostat that’s not receiving voltage. The control box doesn’t seem to be in the ac unit.
  12. Question. I never had a extra 30 amp outlet for a generator on any trailer I’ve had. Are both 30amp receptacles tied into the main panel? Does the 30 amp generator receptacle have a cut off switch. If they are both connected to the main panel with no cut off switch. When you ran a generator would that back feed to the shore 30amp receptacle making that live. And visa versa. Hope i asked this in the simplest way possible.
  13. Where is the best source of knowledge about operating your trailer. I have a general understanding but have questions when you are using multiple power sources. Please bear with me as I have no previous trailer experience. Is there a panel where you manually change power sources. Example..while AC running off generator are your batteries being charge by solor or the generator? Can you damage circuitry if certain switches aren't in proper position? I plan on boondocking so Im feeling i need a good understanding of the circuitry and how it works. Maybe all is explained in the owners manual when i purchase.
  14. Hi everyone, Searched the forum for this subject and did not find anything on it thus far. Recently purchased the Honda EU 22001 and its companion for some boondocking we'll be doing this weekend. Owner's manual says not to use the eco-throttle for 'high energy using appliances'. Not sure what that means - and/or how to qualify. Best I can tell, I should be able to hook the two units together, turn the eco-throttle to 'on' on both units, and be good to go. When the AC powers up [we do have the soft start and solar set up]...the gens do their thing and we're good to do. Any reason to be concerned with this that you know of? Your expertise is much appreciated. Thanks!
  15. When you are disconnected from power and the generator is running, can you get power from both the batteries and the generator at the same time? And, if so, how much power? Up to 30 amps?
  16. I have a Champion 3400 Dual Fuel inverter Generator. It’s quiet but heavy (94lbs). I’ve been carrying it with us a backup for solar and haven’t really needed it. It has less than 10 hours runtime. While at Tractor Supply yesterday I noticed they had the smaller Champion 2000 on sale for $399. It’s gas only, 38lbs, 2000w startup and 1700w running and is quieter than the big one at 53dba. So, I picked one up and put my big one up for sale. As a backup the smaller one makes more sense.
  17. Best mod that I didn’t even know existed till I met a fellow future Ollie owner during my last factory tour. Works great! 18. Have pretty much decided on the Honda EU2200i generator for our Ollie but was at an outdoor show yesterday and was talking to the vendor and he said I should purchase the EU2200i first and then purchase the EU2200i Companion later if I needed the additional power. I questioned why I wouldn't purchase the "companion" model first as it already has the 30 AMP female built into to it. He tried to tell me why using the 30 AMP plug would only give me half of the rated power and that I could use an adaptor on the standard model to use a 30 AMP cord. I said "OK" but when I do that, doesn't the "standard"model also only the deliver half the rated power?? He admitted "yes". Then I said, "then why wouldn't I purchase the model that has the female receptacle built-in vice purchasing the one that I would have to use an adaptor?" He was perplexed since I had taken him out of his comfort zone since I was taking him off of his rehearsed script. Now having said that, I did note that the standard model does have a 12V DC charging port which the Companion model does not. In my mind, that would be the only compelling reason to purchase that one first. I'm new to all of this; can someone tell me which way to go and why? BTW: The "Show" price for the standard was $899. The Companion price was $999. This is the lowest I've ever seen for these units. Does anyone else know of a source for these at this price? I would have to drive 2 hours each way to go back and purchase. Thanks, Hobo
  19. This may be important: "February 12, 2019EB2200i • EU2200i PORTABLE GENERATORSSAFETY AND EMISSION RECALL — STOP SALE/RENTAL NOTICEDear Honda Power Equipment Dealer,American Honda is issuing a Stop Sale Notice for certain EB2200i and EU2200i generators. In some units, the screws used to assemble the fuel valve may loosen during use and can leak fuel. 20. We're picking up our Ollie next spring and am in the mode of purchasing items to have ready at time of delivery. I plan on having a standby generator for boondocking and have noted the gold standard appears to the Honda 2200i. I have however also noted very favorable comments about the Yamaha SC2000i which is about half the cost (at Costco) and what appears to be very comparable specifications. In fact, I could purchase two of the Yamahas for about the cost of a single Honda 2200i. My questions are: Within reason, will I ever need to link two gens together? If "yes" is there a reason I should still consider the Honda over the Yamaha even when the cost would be almost two fold higher? If a single generator is all that I'd ever need, is there a reason to choose the Honda over the Yamaha? Again, camper RVing is new to us so I need an education. It's OK to talk to me like a third-grader as in this arena, that's about where I'm at. I won't be offended, I promise. Thanks,
  21. I'd like to know the inside dimension of the generator basket. I'm trying to come up with a solution to hide my Honda. Brad Cottingham Santa Fe, NM (Tentatively scheduled for a late June delivery.)
  22. Now that I’m camping in Winter and mostly overcast skies of the Northwest, I’m finding Solar system is not cutting it. What’s the best small generator for my 2018 Legacy Elite?
  23. Guys/Gals, My wife and I just picked up the Oliver last week and are now in Moab. We would like to use the generator I purchased in advance. It is a iGen2200 by Westinghouse. it is similar to the Honda and received excellent reviews for boondocking. I have the 30amp adapter and hooked it up to the Ollie and I get nothing. No AC power and no air conditioner (we did order the EZ Start from the factory). What am I missing? I looked in the manual and nothing was mentioned. Am I missing a switch or a button somewhere. I assumed that when I hooked up the generator that the Oliver would sense the AC power and revert to that. I appreciate the help, and apologize if this has been addressed. -Alex
  24. Hi, as we get ready to take our first extended trip I was wanting to know what you experienced Oliver owners have in your tool box. thanks in advance.
  25. Has anyone gotten an auto start generator to work with thermostat to power AC? I think (maybe wrong) this would save some fuel if you didn’t need the AC on much.
