Anderson hitch - getting it off the ground when you unhook.

I really don't like leaving anything metal on the ground either when storing or camping.  Has anyone come up with a way to stow the Anderson wing and chains vs just wrapping them around the Bulldog coupler?  Going out to the shop to work on an idea today.

This doesn't get the chains totally off the ground but it does keep the "whale tail" off and cleaner than it would be otherwise AND it is simple (like me).

With Bill's lead, I used a piece of 3/4" flat steel and bend it into "Z" shape.  Drilled a 3/8" hole to use the existing front jack bolt.  Powder coated the hook and lined it with Velcro as a wear guard.  Used stainless steel lock nut with rubber washer between nut and steel.  Holds the Anderson wing and chains off the ground.

When I remove the Andersen triangle from the hitch I simply move it back a couple of inches to where the safety cables attach and let it sit there. The weight of the chains keep it secure and the chains are off the ground. You don’t need to add any hardware and I’ve never had it fall off. I’ll try to get a better picture tomorrow when we go get our trailer (heading to South Padre Island for a week). Mike

Foy_Mirna,

How long did you cut the 3/4” piece of steel? Thanks for the posting…looks great!

George & Karen

I think it was 8" long.  Trailer is in Hohenwald for service otherwise I would measure it for you.
