Ollie Sighting

Recommended Posts

Got a glimpse for the first time of an Ollie "in the wild."  It was headed west on I-40 between Memphis and Little Rock about 10:00 AM yesterday.  We were heading the other way.  Don't want to sound like a stalker, but if we had been going the other way I would have tried to visit with them about their trailer.

Believe it was towed by a large SUV.  Don't remember it's color, but think it was white or light-colored.  The graphics on the trailer were muted, blue and gray maybe.  Only saw it for a couple of seconds.

Might have been us. We went through there about that time. We tow with a white ford f250 with a white camper topper and our Ollie's graphics are blue and gray...

For the most part, I think we take pride in being stalked. It happens a lot, people following us into rest areas. Last trip, I experienced meeting a couple who had actually followed us into a campground and spent the night there, hoping to get a peek at the Ollie. They were driving a huge ($400,000) bus and were interested in us!

Mystery solved!  And, Mike - have you ever thought that just maybe its NOT the Oliver they are interested in?

I learned to be careful with the stalking. Funny story. We were in Germany last week and we were in areas with tons of caravans.  I saw an Eriba that was beautiful. Noticed they pulled into a rest stop off the Autobahn and followed.  Mmmm I just I should have thought about what a crazy red head speaking excited english and going towards the camper and gesturing would look like to an elderly couple who didn't speak English. Lol I felt bad. They didn't have en visit the restroom. They hightailed it out of there. ????

The Eriba had an interesting cog type wheel that was right behind the back wheel. I wanted to know what it was for. Lol. Alas, I didn't get to look inside either.  They were literally the only people we encountered that didn't know English. I wondered if there was a thread specifically dedicated to "I saw an Ollie on the road".  Last Tuesday, June 27, we saw an Oliver for the first time as well.  I'm almost sure it was in Comanche, Tx, and they were headed north on hwy 67.  We were headed south and were sorely tempted to turn around and catch up to them, but alas, we were not that bold.  Some day soon we need to just quit thinking about it and tour one!

If it was being pulled by a white F250 I know who it was and where they are going!  We just spent most of a day a few days earlier making sure all their systems worked and answering questions before they headed north on their first long trip.

Maybe someone should start an "Oliver Sightings" or "I saw an Ollie on the Road" thread!  Mike

We saw an Elite II parked in the lot at the Taco Bell in Dumas, TX about two o'clock on Monday.

Oh wait, that's ours. We're on our way back to Mississippi after about 70 nights out.

We've seen temps  from 21°F up to 104°F. The most dramatic day's change was after camping at Crater Lake. When we left that morning it was hovering just above freezing with about 4 feet of snow on either side of the trailer. By the end of the day, it was 102°F.

On the Trans-Canada highway, passing over the St Andrews Chanel in Little Bras D'or Nova Scotia on Cape Breton. The Arm of Gold Campground sits right below the bridge, and the first trailer on the end is a single axle Elite, has blue green coloring and a personalized square decal design on the front. No tow vehicle nearby that I noticed, but then I was going over a bridge at 70KPH at the time...

That would be Pete Marks (bugeyedriver) and Bosker in the Wonder Egg.

That must be Pete, "Bugeyedriver".  He escaped the south Texas heat by heading north.

Indeed it is!  Bosker and I are not finished heading north yet.  Today, The Wonder Egg will roll onboard a large, deep water ferry and "swim" over to Newfoundland.  While there, after visiting the Viking settlement at the northern tip, it will hop on another ferry and hop over to Labrador.  This is turning out to be a great summer!  In August, the Wonder Egg gets on another ferry from Prince Edward Island and visit the Magdalen Islands just in time for the International Sand Castle Building Contest.  WOOHOOO!

Pete & Boskar - just be sure that they don't confuse "Old Pete" for "Old Harry"!  Have a good time playing in the sand.

Bill, we saw you folks as well on I 40 heading East. We were just heading West going up Black Mtn. with our Elite II #208 and red 2017 Tundra tv. We stayed overnight at KOA Asheville West then onto Riverbend CG in Hiawassee, GA for a week. Must have seen 6 or 8 eggs heading East on I40 on the 22nd!

Bill - I drove up to Old Harry and tourists were asking just how old Harry was.  Locals would say that Harry was very old, but not near as old as " this guy" and then they held up your picture!  Ha

We spotted an Oliver Elite II headed North at mile marker 39 on Interstate 95 in Maine. It was 8:35 in the AM, on September 1 rst. We were headed southbound to visit the Boston Aquarium. It is amazing the details you miss when closing at 140 mph. We think it was a dark colored tv, maybe a pickup with a cap? And the Oliver might have had gray stripes? It had the standard graphic on the nose. Welcome to our part of the world...

In all of our travels since purchasing our first Oliver Elite II, we were stunned when a couple of days ago we passed another Oliver Elite II on our way back to our dry camp at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Ct. in our Silverado. It was being towed by a blue pickup at a red light and being towed in the opposite direction. We gave a big wave but I don't believe the occupants ever saw us. We have only seen two on the road.  The most recent sighting was in Hiawassee a few months ago.  The only other Elite II that we have ever seen outside of Hohenwald was last summer when we pulled into a small town Walmart in New Mexico. The occupants were non-other than Mr. and Mrs. Oliver senior and one of their sons. What a surprise - had a nice long visit with them in the Walmart parking lot. Jim and his son even fixed a small but nagging problem to the door latch on our trailer.

Hap - Sometimes at our home in Florida, but presently located at the Atlantic Oaks RV park in Cape Cod, Mass. We are headed north to Salem, Mass and then on to the mountains for leaf peeper season.

We are on the Oregon coast right now. On Monday we had a Mini-Oliver rally at a gas station in Boardman, OR, when we spied another Oliver. This is a 2014 Oliver that belongs to Mary and David from Walla Walla, WA. Mary and David were on their way to the Willamette Valley for some kayaking.
