Twin bed - back cushions & bedding

Recommended Posts

Hello - new here from WA state. We just bought a used but new Elite II with twin beds. It had no a/c and came with an induction cooktop. We are adding the a/c and solar.

My question is what has everyone done for back support during the day so, as someone on here put it, you are not either sitting up ramrod straight or laying down? I am thinking of putting a small ottoman/storage cube between the beds for a footrest that can be scooted up next to nightstand at night out of the way. But I am not sure what to do about back support. Any suggestions?

Next, I am concerned that the fabric from the factory on the cushions is going to be hot to sleep on regardless of what is put over it. Much like a waterproof mattress pad we had to rip off our bed one time. I sew, so I could potentially recover these. Debating what to do there.

We are new to RVing too...I am devouring all these posts, searching old one and really appreciate the input.

It looks very nice, very cozy. I like it a lot. Do you just stack the back cushions on the dine tee at night when you sleep?

Also, do you have end cushions behind the pillows too?

Like MikeandGerri I too ordered the cushions from Oliver - but only for the street side. These cushions plus a couple of throw pillows (mainly for the small of the back) can handle virtually any sitting position. A few years ago a former Oliver owner bought one of those "TV watching" type pillows from Amazon and thought that it was great, but, I've never tried one.

Whenever the street side is used as a bed we simply do as you suggest and place the back cushions in the dinette area. As with most foam cushions/mattresses they can be a bit on the warm side when used for sleeping. Normally when we use the street side for sleeping we will place a fitted sheet over the cushion and then we simply use a sleeping bag on top of that. Since either my wife or fishing buddy sleep on that side, I have little direct experience except to say that neither has complained. Yes, the Oliver back cushions extend around the side and back of the Oliver and end right up against the nightstand.

Finally, I would wait on purchasing the ottoman/footrest. If you have the back cushions, your legs (unless you a very short) can rest comfortably on the other side.

Congrates on the purchase! With the addition of the a/c and the solar you will have one wonderful camper.

Okay, thanks. I think we either need to order some cushions or perhaps have some made and go from there. I'm anxious to make our first trip (Oregon coast in June).

Neglected to mention that the back cushions from Oliver are joined together via snaps. This helps with both keeping them together while in place and makes it easy to remove/replace them when the bed is used for sleeping or for when one wants to gain access to the compartments underneath.

We got the cushions from Oliver for one side too. We have found that we don't use them like we thought we would and its to many cushions to deal with at night for us so we now just carry 2 of them (one for each side) and leave the rest at home. We also have some throw pillows and between them and the 2 cushions it works for almost any sitting or lounging position.

Thank you. That is good to know. We don't have time to get them from Oliver before our maiden voyage anyway so we are going to make do with pillows. I sew and plan to make covers that look good with the cushions. Plus we can use the pillows at night for sleeping. I do like the tidy look of the cushions from Oliver though.

By the way, KountryKamper, did you paint your window trim white and/or replace the shades? I really don't like the yellow color in ours.

We are planning to order sheet sets and mattress covers from AB Lifestyles, a specialist in RV Bedding , now including Oliver Elite II.

They did a custom Oliver order last year using the the dimensions for the Oliver Elite II twin beds.

They now have bedding available online for ordering.

Both sheet sets and mattress covers are available for Oliver Elite twin mattresses.

They say on the website that each set is a PAIR for both left and right twin beds.

The PAIR includes fitted bottom and top sheets for both left and right mattresses, and 2 pillow cases (one for each bed) .

https://www.ablifestyles.net/road-ready-rv-sheet-set/

They also have mattress pads for the Oliver Twins.

This link is to their plush pad…and they also come bundled in pairs (both left and right mattress shape one package)

https://www.ablifestyles.net/products/ultima-plush-mattress-pad-for-campers-rvs.html

This link for their waterproof covers…also a PAIR.

Finally, they also are a custom RV mattress company should anyone need to order those as well.

We  purchased the extra snap-together back cushions for one side  -  we just don't use them - and will let them go - very reasonably - they are the grey fabric. Have been bagged and stored since new.

Would it work to order one set of back cushions and use some of them on each side?  I wouldn't want to mess with that many cushions.  We have throw pillows as well.

The cushions that I have for one side have a "tab" with snaps on the "back" of each cushion in order for them to be attached to each other.  Certainly you could ask for these tabs to be left off or you could leave them on an mix/match for either side.

I found measurements (in the "University" on Oliver site) for the Elite II cushions.  They list the dimensions for the pantry and nightstand sides, but they seem to have left out the outside back cushions along the wall for the twin beds (see diagram).  The diagram shows 3 along the outside wall, one on the outside curve, and one on the end wall.  I assume they are the same as the others in height (13") and thickness (4").  The 3 outside wall cushions look to be the same as the nightstand cushion, but I'm not sure about the other two. Can someone who has these please share these measurements.

I want to determine if one set of the back cushions would give two for each bed (assuming the nightstand cushion is the same size as the larger back cushions).  And also to use them with the dinette to make a sofa, by making it into a bed and using the back cushions from the sleeping area along the wall.

I understand the wall cushions are tied together with snap tabs, which is a good idea, but I would rather not have them if they would stay in place without.

You have the optional twin mattresses from Oliver?  Since they are thicker than the standard pad, do the back cushions still fit between the mattress and the window frame?  Or did Oliver make them slightly shorter to compensate for the mattress height?  Looks to me like these are Ultra-fabric seat cushions, not the mattress.  I guess I'm confused.

I have found the cushions to not be very comfortable which ever way I place them, If you can't get a rocker recliner in the trailer then I see little hope of ever being comfortable. We have a added 4" memory foam mattress and I usually just lay down, my favorite position in life.  Many have upgraded their cushions and like it, my personal feeling on this is it would still be uncomfortable for me, but work for others.
