Outdoor Shower Stall

I was trying to figure out a way to reduce grey water production and have a larger shower and came up with this mod. It doesn’t take long to set up and it affords us some privacy.

The first pic is the gear bundled for storage and travel.

The second pic shows the frame installed.

The third pic has the shower curtain installed and ready for use.

And before everyone has a laugh ? at my expense, these pictures are on the curb side for demonstration purposes only. There is too much vegetation on the street side for pictures.

And now you are wondering how I posted those pictures upside down! Me too?‍♂️

Maybe a moderator can fix um?

What a novel way to set things up. For warm weather use it's ideal. We essentially do the same thing to conserve gray tank capacity except that we take the showers inside and just let the gray water drain out as we go.

Looks great.

Mike -

I like it - nice job. Care to share the dimensions of each piece of the PVC? Is that one bag filled with suction cups and are those used to secure the curtain to the sides of the Oliver? Assuming that you use this on the other side of the Oliver, have you used it with the outside shower - is the hose long enough?

Will this picture suffice for measurements?

Yes they are Harbor Freight aluminum suction cups holding the frame to the hull.  They are the most expensive parts used, but they do double up in the closet to secure our camp chairs with a bungee cord.
I do like multiple uses for any equipment we carry while traveling.

Assuming that you use this on the other side of the Oliver, have you used it with the outside shower – is the hose long enough?

You just had to make fun of me for installing this on the curb side, didn’t you. ?  It was easier to take pictures on this side but I included  some from the street side just for you, Bill.

Krunch picked up the shower curtains someplace cheap.  She didn’t like the clear vinyl ones I bought.  The shower curtains do need to be secured in windy conditions.

Bill

Hopefully these pictures are right side up.

Mike -

Duh! My bad. I, finally, figured out what is in the bag in the first picture that I thought were small suction cups used to hold the shower curtain to the body of the Oliver - it is the bag containing the shower curtains!

Where did you get the "shower head holder"?

Far be it for me to make fun of someone that can scream like you did on the zip line!

I use those same Harbor Freight suction cups to hold my fishing waders on the side of Twist so they can dry after a day of fishing. So, I've already got the most expensive part covered.

I just happened to notice this past Saturday that the "Dollar Store" sells those shower curtains. At that price, use them for a season and pitch em.

Seriously Mike (& Krunch), thanks for the pictures, measurements and help. Hopefully I'll have enough time between now and the first of July to cobble together my own.

Bill

p.s. Yes, the new pictures are right side up. Exactly why didn't Krunch like the clear shower curtain?

Good Luck on your fishing trip.  I think you said you were heading to Idaho correct? Not sure where you are going, but Krunch and I visited this National Monument a few years back. We weren’t camping at the time but we thought it was a unique place and the campground was clean. Not much shade but very interesting.

Mike -

Thanks for the link on the shower head holder. Even though I will be passing fairly close to Craters of the Moon it doesn't look like I will have the time to stop. One would think that being on the road for just about two months there would be plenty of time - but - no. Looks like I should have planned for a three month trip!

I’m glad you found it useful. It’s a cheap and simple mod. One suggestion for anyone adapting this for their use is to cut the short horizontal with the chair tip last. It will be easier to make your frame horizontal when installed.

Good luck!

Light - you got a light in there? No wonder Krunch didn't like the clear shower curtains - with the light on everyone could see what she was reading!

Thanks for the photos and measurements. looks great. I forwarded a link to my cousin in Alaska, who spends several months each year in a dry cabin. They do have a well, but not indoor plumbing. Paul and I helped them set up a new ecotemp L5 outdoor water heater shower this past trip. Your solution is way superior to a shower tent...

Could I ask where you found the cute and functional collapsible shower mat?

Not being able to leave a nicely designed mod alone, I added a strip of double sided Velcro to each "down arm of Mike's design. These will hold the curtain when not in use.

I bought two curtains at the Dollar Store. I got the ones in white (so that they would closely match the color of the Oliver). However, while not as "clear" as the ones that Krunch made Mike take back they might not be as opaque as some would prefer. Perhaps there is a reason they only cost a dollar?

I then added brass grommets to the lame holes at the top of each curtain and added large washers around each of the three magnets at the bottom in order to keep the curtains a bit more stable in a breeze.

After getting two ten foot sticks of 1/2 inch schedule 40 plastic pipe, it took all of about 20 minutes to cut the pieces, and another ten minutes to glue most of it together. Remember - you probably do not want to glue the cross pieces and the "down" arms so that you can disassemble for storage.

World Market also has the mats that Mike and Krunch found.

https://www.worldmarket.com/product/18x30-multi-clr-flip-flop-drmt.do?searchTerm=flip%20flop%20mat

Since I didn't want to permanently stick the shower handle holder to the exterior of the Oliver I ordered this suction model

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074V9JSK3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally, the rubber feet that Mike used are available at Ace Hardware - the 7/8 inch size fits on the 1/2 inch plastic pipe.
