Propane Alerts

We have not used propane in almost a week, and today our propane detector has gone off five times (and counting).  This began when we had all of our windows open.  We also have the exhaust fan on. We don't smell propane, and the camp host says this hasn't happened in this campground before.  Could this just be a faulty detector?

Yes, but could be caused by other things. Are you propane tanks shut off? Do you have a dog? We have had ours set it off by the dog. Anyone running a generator or vehicle could cause it to go off because it is a CO detector too. It could also be caused by other things. Try vacuuming it. If it still goes off and your propane is shut off pull the 1 amp fuse under the driver side bed until you get to the next stop.

Janie,,

Did you ever figure out the source of the problem alarm?

My sister had an alarm from a low battery, but sounds like you were plugged into the cg power. She had no power supply.

I've had this problem before my current trip to the smoke-filled areas of Montana and Alberta. I think I know what has caused my issues. The smoke is very thick here and if I open windows and draw air into the camper with the fan, my alarm goes off immediately! I had water/electricity at a campground near Glacier when this first happened and when I closed up and turned on the A/C, the problem disappeared. Now I recall that when this has happened in the past, it's been in campgrounds with a lot of campfires burning. I remember complaining to myself about how the campfires affected me while I tried to sleep with the windows open and then the alarm went off. I assume the smoke in the air equates to increased CO2 in the air as well which triggers the alarm.

I communicated with Jason about this a couple of days ago to find out what I can do when boondocking in a smoky area and he too recommended pulling that fuse. However, he counseled me to turn off the propane before going to bed to make sure I woke up in the morning if there were a propane leak and no functioning alarm! Good advice, I think.

I can't find the inline fuse. I'd really appreciate it if someone would post some photos of the fuse and its location. I found the two 12v breakers under the bed on the driver's side. Jason said it's an inline fuse wired to the right of one of those breakers, but I can't find it. :(

I found mine in a different location after receiving this info from Jason a few minutes ago: "Hey Don,

Your model may have the inline fuse under the dinette access panel and be located near the LP alarm itself."

Hi everyone ~  Thanks so much for your feedback.  Sorry I haven't replied earlier.  I had checked the box that asked if I wanted to be notified of replies, but didn't receive any until Don's yesterday.  We determined that the problem was with the campground, not our detector.  We haven't had any trouble since. Happy to know about the fuses.  Which fuse would it be? (photo attached).  We bought our Oliver in 2016 – Hull #125.

Mine a 2018 so it may be different. Wires from detector are 2 red and 1 back. Under the aft seat of the side dinette: The 2 red are butt spliced to Blue, The black is spliced to Yellow. All this is under the looming and not readily visible. These wires run into the “rats nest” ? I suspect the yellow runs to the nearby buss bar for grounds (1/2 dozen or so yellows attached). Under the aft port side dinette seat: the blue wire is spliced to the 1-amp blade fuse holder. This is just forward if the 3 jack fuses. - Randy

  • 7 months later...

We just had an evening of 6 beeps (propane alert) and we had used the rear quick connect but when the beeps started we disconnected, turned the propane off and continued to get the alarm every so often. After vacuuming and airing it out, we kept getting the propane beeps. We pulled the 1 amp fuse on our ‘17 LE2. The propane will stay off for the rest of the weekend. Thanks for the assist!
