Surge protector

The one that Oliver sells as an option is great - you simply never have to worry about it working or getting stolen.  In the case of surge protectors - the more you spend almost certainly means the more protection and functions/features you get.

We asked about a surge protector on the Oliver during our Jan 21 factory tour. We were told by Anita that the 2020 Oliver has a surge protector built in and is standard.

There is not need to purchase a surge protector.  All new Olivers trailer come with the following standard:

"Progressive Industries EMS Surge Protector" (Cut and pasted directly from the standard features section of this website.)

IMO, it is the best you can get and it is built-in so, no concerns of it being stolen.

We have the "portable" Progressive 30 EMS (electrical management system). We got our unit Hull #211 before built in became available or standard. We like it and that we can plug into a pedestal and see immediately that we do/or do not have clean power. And we know without having to go into the unit, and before even the unit is plugged in. However we do secure the unit to the electric box with a pistol cable lock. The moving lights on the box seems to make people curious about what is going on. Maybe the name Beretta on the lock makes them wonder too?

With all the expensive electronic equipment onboard most Ollies it is good that the surge protector is now standard equipment.  I'm not sure where the electronic readout for the protector is placed.  But, if you are sensitive to light (flashing or otherwise) make sure that the readout is in a place that hides that flashing screen from view while still being easily accessible so you can read the codes that it displays.  I'd have mine placed inside the first overhead cabinet right on the pantry wall.  In this location all one has to do is lower the cabinet door and you can see the readout from the entrance door - assuming that you have not filled that cabinet so full as to block the view of the readout.

FYI the remote display is super easy to relocate, and it uses a regular Cat-5 ribbon style cable to power it.

HERE is a thread with various options for relocating the surge suppressor display. I followed @mountainoliver's suggestion HERE to move it under the dinette where it is visible from the door during campsite setup. You can snake the cable out through the electrical box, and no drilling is needed if you use command strips to attach the display to the trailer wall.
