Where’s Ollie?

Sometimes, it's not all about the scenery.

It's sometimes about the fire, and friendship

We spent almost two weeks with Pete and Bosker.

We swapped info, stories, (lies, haha) and, sometimes, we even swapped dogs.

Bosker is in Paul's lap. Our dog Liv rules the universe from Pete's. Every day is an adventure. Both dogs love the Appalachians, as do we.

Campfires have a way of rekindling old friendships.

Just who is that Ollie?

After a busy Christmas day and early dinner, I was poking around on YouTube and started looking at a video by "RVer TV" that was posted by him on December 22, 2019.  At between 14:52 and 15:25 minutes into the video I spied an Oliver Elite II in a rest area of Interstate 40 (west) fairly near the entrance of the Mojave National Preserve.

Anyone know just who this lucky devil is?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Hello to the Oliver Elite parked in the Pleasure Pier parking lot in Galveston at 3pm February 4. Hull 313 is parked in Hitchcock TX headed south tomorrow.

Mods please add to the correct thread. Couldn’t remember the name of that tread.

This is at Aguirre Spring Campground outside of White Sands National Park. BLM, nice sites and vault toilets.  No hookups. Steep winding drive up to the campground. $7/night, $3.50 with senior pass.

We’re currently at Lake Pleasant Regional Park.  It’s one of the parks in the Maricopa County system.  It’s quite lovely although a bit pricey at $32/night.  Has water and power and nice shower/bathroom facilities.  It’s near Phoenix and has allowed us to visit numerous friends in the area.  As a bonus it has free roaming burros!  Heading towards Tucson then eastward into New Mexico and Texas.

Blue Spring SP is one of my favorites.  For 15 years straight I stayed either in the campground or the cabins there during Daytona Bikeweek.  The number and variety of fish that are in the stream between the spring and the St. John's river is amazing let alone the Manatees.  Enjoy it!

This is Lost Dutchman State Park outside of Phoenix this past January.  It’s a big park and very scenic.  There were a number of Olivers there in January, including the crazy Oliver owners in the middle picture.

We live <6 miles (as the crow flies) from the Lost Dutchman State Park. Looks like a beautiful park, but we haven't camped quite that close to home in the Oliver...yet.

This is Canyon Point USFS Campground.  It’s about 30 miles east of Payson, AZ.  7,700 feet, perfect weather in early August (low 50s at night, high 70s afternoon).  There are two loops, some sites have 30a hookups, most do not.  Highly recommended.

This is Lyman Lake State Park in eastern AZ.  Nice park, sites are well maintained with views of the lake.  There are some native hieroglyphs on the bluffs at the lake.  Easy hike to see them. We stayed a couple of nights on our way home from Colorado and northern Arizona a couple of weeks ago.

Nice sites, covered shelter, lake view.

Short hike up the bluff to the hieroglyphs.  Campground in the background.

Mike,

Are you having much problem getting reservations ?  In July, it was just crazy.

Pics are great!

Arizona parks are generally hard to get into without reservations well in advance.  Lyman Lake wasn’t bad during the week, but weekends are full.  We’re going back to Catalina State Park in January and made reservations last January!  This summer was crazy.  We stayed at Navajo State Park in Colorado the last part of July and it was packed.

But we were camping for the first time in 2020, so we just sucked it up.

Mike -

Sorry about the weather.  That looks like a nice site - level, clean and private.  Did you have a chance to look at the shower house?

Yes I did use the shower house.  It needed service the first day and night, no hand soap or toilet paper in one of the stalls.  It was much better the second and third days.  It turns out that one of the camp host couples left for an emergency on our first day, so they were short handed.  The replacement hosts actually showed up about an hour after we did, but didn’t begin working until the next day.  All of the spots were clean and level, but ours had a little more privacy due to the fact that it was actually a long drive way with two spots and we were in the rear.  There wasn’t any access problems for us as the front spot was only used the first night by the replacement hosts.  So I’ll give the park a B rating overall, as we would visit again and hope for cooler weather.

Love that this thread was resurrected. Enjoyed all the pictures and sightings! Looking forward to adding to it in the coming weeks.
13 days until delivery! We’ve been without a trailer since we sold our 5th wheel in August and sure have missed our camping adventures.

There are several Loops.  B Loop is all lakeside sites with W/E.  D and E Loops are in the pines back from the lake some have W/E and some (40) are FHU.  Total of about 100 sites.  The lake is Wright Patman Lake.  It’s only about 25% full.  It’s a COE campground so our senior pass resulted in 50% off.  Nice and quiet!  Mike
