Ollie in the Wild!

Patriot

Recommended Posts

We just returned home from an amazing 8 days at Huntington Beach SP only 247 miles away from our home.
Located right on the Atlantic Ocean with 3 miles of beach front and no high rises hotels or homes ever yay! Our weather the entire time was stellar! We took our bicycles and rode every path on the park. There are plenty of alligators 🐊  and we spotted a few while out riding in the lake and swampy areas. We are mountain campers, but we need a beach fix this will be our go to SP. The staff at this park really worked hard to get it back up and running after Ian blew through at high tide. It’s amazing what the park staff and volunteers got accomplished cleaning up in a very short turnaround .
Our site was less than a 5 min walk to the beach. I even cheffed up some fresh blackened shrimp. 🍤 A very memorable stay! 😊

We love that park and we are looking forward to taking our new Ollie down there. It was not a good fit for a 30’ Airstream with a 22’ truck!

Shrimp looks good too!

Just completed a 2600-mile adventure from San Antonio to Sedona, AZ to the Gila Wilderness, NM. Stayed 6 nights at Rancho Sedona RV Park in Sedona. Pricey, but convenient! Loved the hiking but crazy busy especially on the weekend. The highlight was actually the Gila Wilderness where we enjoyed a quiet, dark, and unplugged stay. Stayed at Gila Hot Springs 4 nights.

Saw multiple Ollies in the wild on I-10. On 25 Oct, we saw two Ollies in West Texas while traveling westbound. One was headed east and the other we caught up with heading west. We then saw the same(?) Ollie (TN plates) heading west in AZ on the 26th after staying the night in Demming, NM.

Karick Lake South, Baker FL in the Blackwater River State Forest about an hour from my house.  Was able to load the bike and close the tailgate to take it camping. Great trails and perfect time of year for this part of the world.

Ollie in the Wild!
After a very successful service visit and Truma retrofit/install we left the Oliver Mothership and are now camped at Monte Sano SP near Huntsville, Ala. It’s a reeeeally nice SP and we highly recommend it! Nice large sites with full HP. Only 55 miles from the LGSP Oliver Rally. A nice place to chill until we head out to the Rally. Even a little Bluegrass music under the Pavilion this evening.
Happy Camping!

We have camped at Monte Sano State Park many times in years past but it is a really nice park for sure. It also has just enough elevation to be cooler in the hot and sultry summer months vs being down in the TN River Valley area. Lots of great hiking, not strenuous at all as well as off road mountain biking. Watch out for the gigantic spiders and their webs on some of the trails though. Creepy doesn't even begin to describe it.

We left Monte Sano SP and made the short trek to Lake Guntersville SP. The 69,000 acre lake is gorgeous as always!
We got set up at site 50 and are looking forward to seeing everyone. Keep an eye out for deer as you enter the park, there are lots of them.
Safe Travels to everyone!

Making our way to out Colorado yesterday we stopped at Buc-ee’s in Knoxville, Tenn. It was our very first time. The barbecue brisket and pork sandwiches “Texas style” were ️ amazing. Just like we remember when we lived in Texas. And just a warning  Buc-ee’s Cheddar cheese NUG-EE’S are addicting. Don’t buy a bag you won’t like them 😝.

We continued on I40 west to Cedars of Lebanon SP for a nice restful nights sleep. A really nice SP about 7 mi off of I40. Large spacious sites, a nice staff and great place to layover. A few FH sites, mostly  W/E sites and a dump station and fairly modern bath houses. We would stay here again.👍🏻

Onward!

Last night we night we stayed at Washington State recreation area. https://dnr.illinois.gov/parks/camp/park.washingtoncounty.html

A really nice CG @$20 per night elec only and a dump station.
Super quiet, concrete pads, super clean rest rooms/showers, and really nice camp hosts. The park had plenty of availability when we arrived and is only 8-9 miles off I64. @rideandfly yes sir, we will be crossing the Mississippi today. 😊

Onward!

Where about's in CO are y'all headed?

Since you're on "our side" of the Mississippi now, you'll find that there's plenty of Buc-ee's as you traverse through TX!

FYI:  If your travels take you to southern CO, we're only a couple hours south of the border on I-25.  Got an easy drive-through, flat site w/30amp H/U - all yours for a just a cold one!  HA!

WOW!  That's a big elephant - one bite at a time...  Concur with John, I'd add Pagosa and Silverton to his list.  Try not to miss the San Luis Valley and the Arkansas River from Ponchas Springs all the way up to Leadville (highest aerodrome in US).  There's a nice transition over Independence Pass from Leadville area down to Aspen, your Tremor will eat up that breath-taking route with 14k'ers in all directions, Mt Massive, La Plata Peak, Castle Peak, and others.  Enjoy CO, we've got a remote off-grid cabin there near Antonito - love it!

Leadville is worth a stop.  The highway in and out is enjoyable and scenic.  If you want to do Highway 550 (Million Dollar Highway) through Ouray and Silverton a good place to camp is at Ridgway State Park near Ouray.  You can also visit Telluride from there.  Durango is also worth a visit (our son and family live there).  Rifle Gap State Park is good for a few days of relaxation, it’s just a few miles from Rifle Falls State park, with a nice waterfall to visit.  Steamboat is another nice town, you can stay at Yampa River State Park, it’s only about a 30 minute drive into Steamboat.  If you want big city camping, Chatfield State Park is nice, just outside of Denver (Littleton, CO).  Oh, the possibilities!
