Fresh Water Valve?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed a Sharkbite or equivalent garden hose valve for the pex fresh water drain?  I'm used to getting water for my dogs bowl from a fitting I added to my Casita.  Is there any harm in installing one and leaving the inside valve open?

On my trailer it is quite awkward to reach that PEX tube, you have to go around the rear jack and mudflap. I think anything large like a Shark Bite connector would be vulnerable to a rock strike, and you risk all your fresh water vanishing en route if it should come off (if the inside drain is left open). Is there some reason you don’t want to use the outside shower or the galley faucet for dog water?

Ha, that didn't occur to me to use the outside shower!  I guess having a garden hose fitting there would be nice to run the water away from the trailer, but I see your concern.  Could be quite low hanging.

Thanks.  I saw this earlier but I thought a simple hose bib would be cool!

I put one of these on our drain and just screw a hose onto it if I happen to drain my tank at home. The OOII lives in its own garage and I don't like just draining the water onto the floor. This way I can divert the water to a floor drain.

I usually just open the drain cock whenever we're within 100 miles of home and let it drain out as we go down the road.

After sanitazing the fresh water tank for the first time, the tank did not drain and when I looked at the drain pipe from under the trailer it was only dripping. I crawled under the Ollie and blew into the discharge pipe and then the tank started draining, but very slowly.

Is that the case that the tank drains slowly through the discharge pipe?

I think the cause of the slow drain from the fresh water tank is the same problem with slow water flow with the inlet line and the screen on the electric pump. Pieces of plastic that are left in the fresh water tank from drilling into the tank are getting stuck in the lines. Not enough to clog the lines just enough to slow the water flow.  This plastic gets wedged in the lines I only had to clear the stainless steel inlet line to the water pump. Using coat hanger it was only about 8” long. If this is the case for the fresh water drain line I would say it may be easier to replace the drain line then trying to snake a wire through it.  Compressed air may not work it will only clog the lines more.  I’m sure others had the same problem. Just add it to the list.

DewDev, Mine drains at 1 gallon per minute, on average.

In other words, a full fresh tank will empty in under 30 minutes. You can back flush with water into the tank if you are careful. I think using water is more effective than air because it has more mass and can carry the shreds past any elbows or constrictions. I describe how I do on that drain hose extension link I posted earlier.

OTH it is way better to actually remove any debris than send it right back to the tank….. But mine continues to drain well. There really needs to be an INLET screen for the water tube inside the tank, that could be removed and cleaned properly.

I've seen this issue of plastic bits in the tank mentioned in a few threads. I wonder if OTT has ever thought of completing a tank flush prior to delivery to reduce the likelihood of new owners having to deal with this.
