Since I only have my Oliver to compare to, I have a couple of questions to ask to the forum group.  The repair pictures show what has been identified as liquid tape.  Does anyone else have liquid tape on their frame ground stud or connections?  My second question concerns the 4/0 x 5/16” lug attached to the ground stud.  Does anyone also have a 4/0 ground cable connected to the frame ground?  Are these now common methods on units coming from the factory?

Mine has the black coating on the chassis ground.  2019 Hull 461.  Haven’t had any electrical/ground issues at all.  But not sure why Oliver feels that coating is needed on the chassis ground stud since the entire ground bus bar right next to it is exposed.

On mine, the top of the ground stud is also covered with the black soft sealant.  I take this to indicate to not add any other grounds to this primary ground point. None of the other ground points have it.

SteveCr, you can definitely add additional grounds there, you just have to be sure to remove all the black stuff down to bare smooth metal. FYI you should not have more than 4 per stud, if you need more, add another stud with a big jumper cable to it, or else a bus bar. Do not be like this boat:

Looks like I have some black stuff sprayed on the ground stud.   Another easy task on my list, check this out and improve this ground connection as needed.

The yellow 4/0 ground wire is attached.

Are you referring to the yellow wire connected to the right end of the ground Buss bar?  That cable does not look large enough to be a 4/0 cable which has an O.D. of 13/16".  One of Katjo’s pictures showed a 4/0 x 5/16" lug connected to the frame ground, which prompted my question.

Apologies, I had a senior moment while typing, I meant 4AWG.   Not sure about that wire size, just guessing from my pic.   I edited my post.

@Mike D.  thanks for the clarification.  Maybe Katjo will comment on his picture and let us know if the 4/0 lug in his picture was original or part of the recent repair and what the other end is connected to.

The lug (screw) was replaced with the exact same size as the originally used from factory.

Hey Mike,

That 4/0 cable on my 2021 goes direct to the negative battery terminal. (at least it used to before I rearranged all the wiring 😁)

Hey John how’s it going?  Have y’all been camping since the rally or are you hiding in the air conditioning like I am?  I’ll jump back in and ask for more information.  I still haven’t heard back from Katjo concerning my 4/0 cable lug question, so I’ll ask you if you are saying that you originally had a 4/0 cable connected to the frame ground stud and running straight to the battery negative?  If so, that may be a wiring change to accommodate the Xantrex Freedom XC Pro series of charger/inverters.  I know you have done extensive work to your solar setup and although I haven’t seen the work you have completed, your comment leads me to believe that you have installed a battery shunt.  Maybe I should approach this from a different direction and ask if you have a Xantrex Freedom XC Pro  and if so, what is the difference between your original installation and the drawing below?

Hey Mike,  you are correct.  I have the 3000 wax XC Pro.  I have noted the picture below.  The 4/0 cable used to come from the battery negative to the chassis ground.  When I installed the Lynx I removed all the wire from the battery compartment except for the 2 4/0 cables that come from the batteries to the lynx.  Luckily when I removed the 4/0 cable from the battery negative that went to the chassis it was just long enough to be able to be installed (albeit awkwardly) to the negative bus on the lynx which saved me from making another 4/0 cable.  The solar controllers below are a 100/50 for the portable solar and a 100/30 for the rooftop array.  There is a small positive busbar mounted vertically on the lower right that I used for jacks ect.

Thanks John!  I am beginning to understand the way Oliver is handling the DC side of the Xantrex.  And I might be able to help someone else.

I like your installation, but I have a suggestion to clean up the grey communication cable. I got a humongous one like yours when I bought the Smart Bus, but I only needed about five feet. I found this cable, and tossed that huge one in the recycle bin. It will make your installation look a whole lot neater. Some of us care about stuff like that😬

It’s probably available from a number of vendors, this is the one I found:

https://www.ecodirect.com/Victron-Energy-VE-Direct-Cable-1-8m-5-9-p/victron-energy-ass030530218.htm

You could loop the excess cable and hide it underneath your Victron display board, so none of it would show.

Yeah yeah, I know it is too long and I knew it would be pointed out when I posted it.😁  I have blanks so I can just cut the cable to length and re-crimp it but for some reason I haven't gotten back to do it yet. 🤷‍♂️. Now I am motivated!!!
