Airstream Fiberglass Travel Trailer

It appears that Airstream has purchased a fiberglass travel trailer manufacturing company (Nest) to manfacture fiberglas trailers under the Airstream logo.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but Airstream will be have a long way before they will begin to match Oliver !

See how the Airstream Nest compares to the Oliver Travel Trailer.

I've read the info on the Nest and looked at the photo's.  Looks like a nice design on the outside, although I'm not crazy about the counter seating inside.  Airstream will have to realize that they are coming into the FG market at no more that 2nd best.  They will have a long way to go to match an Oliver.

Agreed entirely, but for those who are looking for something smaller and towable with a much smaller vehicle they might fit the bill. The guy who designed these things however brought to the industry what should have been here long ago, very innovative, creative and forward thinking. In perfect world Robert Johans (think I got that right) would have been able to go forward with this thing himself. Still no match for an Oliver though.

I guess Earth Roamer is the only manufacturer in the USA using a cartridge style system in place of black tanks. Interestingly, they have also eliminated the use of propane.

Several truck campers offer a cassette toilet option, including Hallmark and Northern Lite. Check out the stunning XPCampers - they are all diesel/  solar and have huge fresh water tanks and cassette toilets and greatly surpass Olivers in build design and quality. The FUSO based Earth Cruiser is getting up in cost with a stripped, used EarthRoamer, but it has similar systems and will fit in a shipping container....you have lots of choices for a cassette toilet, you just need a pickup to put the truck camper on or seriously deep pockets to pay for a dedicated expedition vehicle. I think Oliver's unwillingness to offer one is a marketing mistake.

I know there has been chatter here on the forum for several years about putting a cassette toilet into an Oliver and some have inquired about that possibility. To the best of my knowledge Oliver has not put one in so far, but have they actually refused to install a cassette toilet?

A very nice couple from Clinton, Iowa walked by my Ollie this morning. Both had their heads on a swivel as they walked by. I was outside and said "you probably wonder who makes this camper". They confirmed and stopped to talk. They are Airstream owners. They did a walk around and I asked if they would like to see the inside. They said yes--and they took a tour. Both were very impressed. They said they wanted to check out the website so I gave them a brochure (Anita gave me a bunch of them when I picked up my Ollie in March). They both made repeated comments about the apparent quality of the Oliver Elite II. I predict that Oliver will have many former Airstream owners as customers as more Ollies hit the road!

Handed out my second Oliver brochure today to another camper who approached me at the campground wondering what kind of camper I had. The way people who own "stick built" campers react to the Oliver is amazing--they can't believe the apparent quality of the materials and construction of our campers. I'm starting to understand why Oliver doesn't have "dealers". They have a huge sales force. :)

Yes, I specifically requested that option by email about six months ago, and they told me they would not do it. I hate carrying around large quantities of sewerage, looking for a dump station in the off season. Around here many campgrounds are not open until Memorial Day, months after the weather has gotten nice enough for primitive camping in a four season camper like an Ollie. Conventional RV black water systems suck.
