Has anyone tried a keyless entry lock?

The keyless entry lock I've been looking at, by a p products, has mixed reviews,as in people love it or hate it. One reviewer suggested that alignment issues may be the reason it doesn't work for the unhappy customers.

I was curious to know if anyone here on the forum has tried one on their Oliver, and the results.

Sherry

Hi Sherry, you Seadawg you! Nope, not tried it yet, but I'm going to order one, maybe that exact one when I pick up my trailer and get it home. We have a similar one on our home and have used it for several years, actually the second one as we wore the first one out. Very convenient and I know it would be much more convenient. Well, the one I was looking at had a remote electronic keyfob too which I want. Open your trailer from a few steps away or from your car/truck. Hope someone tries it soon and gives us a review. Jason said a electronic lock from the factory was $395 he thought. This one is $250 on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/RVLock-Keyless-Handle-Integrated-Keypad/dp/B00N58KQMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481723897&sr=8-1&keywords=RV+camper+trailer+remote+entry+lock

Hmm, I didn't see that one. It's about $100 more than the one I looked at. It certainly has better reviews.

I didn't know the factory offered this option now.

If anyone has ordered it, and has comments, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

I would be interested to see how these work out for anyone  that order these. The only issue I seem to have with my Oliver is the door locks....they can be hard to open, and I think it is because the door gasket needs to be compressed to get the door closed tightly, making the door lock sometimes hard to turn with a key. I wonder if the battery and electronic mechanism is strong enough to overcome this.

Hi Sherry.

I have the standard white rv lock with remote key fob that I installed myself but had a little trouble finetuning the fit. ( A mechanic I am not) This was in December, 2010.   About this same time, I looked for somebody with fiberglass rv experience to install the silver bubble insulation inside the cabinets of Revilo.  (One of the best decisions I have made to insulate the cabinets above.)  Anyway, back to the topic of discussion.   I did find an individual who could install the insulation     and     fix the lock so that it would open and close with ease.  He did an excellent job.  I use the key but I am glad that I have the choice to use the remote keyless entry if I want.   I am not sure that the particular styles I see now online were available in 2010.  I am perfectly happy with this rv lock and at the moment see no reason to update.

Hi, jam 49, so very good to hear from you. Hope all is well in Texas. I spoke with Tom and Karen a week ago, and I know you are in touch.

Which model did you install? If you remember. I see it was awhile ago.

We were at the factory for a few days this week to meet with a couple that was buying a new Oliver.  During our discussions the option of the key-less lock came up.  He stated he has owned several RV's in the past and found that the composite paddle handles on these locks tended to break in cold weather (they live in Colorado.)  I don't think he ordered one.  I have considered buying the model that they're installing (pretty sure it's the one that Rhett referenced) but as yet have not done so.

  • 4 weeks later...

Tried and still have an older version of this lock.  Used it for a couple of years, but the key pad stop working.  With the older model the key pad was a separate unit.  My main issue is that the batteries on the lock only lasted a month and did not provide a warning that they were getting low.  Hopefully the new one lets you know when the batteries are getting low.  I still have it installed, but no longer use it with the keyless entry or key pad.

Thanks. Our home locks do give us a warning on low battery.

Perhaps not the same on RV locks?
