The best solution that I've found is a set of comfortable noise cancelling headphones. Mine are comfortable enough to sleep with and they eliminate the AC noise almost entirely. The batteries will easily last the night.
Curious, what is your hat size, and what brand model NC headphones are you using? (I'm a size 8 head and not many headphones are comfortable...)
