  1. I thought about those stain glass window films. Would look really cool but I would think light would still come in. I attached the curtain to the screen door with Velcro so the main door can be hooked open and I can either roll up the curtain or remove it entirely. I'll probably just roll it up and leave it attached so it has a "home". I've seen fan shroud covers that look smoky but it seems quite cluttered up there already with the AC and that huge king dome thing that I will never use. :D I'm just piddling around trying to learn systems and make/gather things for the camper. Just finished making a drawstring bag for a travel blow drier and I monogrammed our names onto our camp chairs! I've only got a little bit of time left until school starts and all projects will have to stop until Thanksgiving break lol
  2. We are slowly trying to learn the systems of our new to us Ollie. I have been googling and youtubing unsuccessfully on how to use the black pull handle in the bathroom labeled "back flow preventer". Right now it's in the "open" configuration. When do I close it, if ever? I'm trying to learn these systems before I screw something up that will cost us a fortune to fix. Never had a camper with water heaters, black tanks, ceiling fans, grey tanks, etc. lol I think I've finally figured out how the fan works. I couldn't figure out how to work it but then I realized that is because the little fuse knob is sketchy. If I wiggle it it starts working again. I thought I was doing it wrong! Got it to close automatically when it started raining! Woohoo! Does everyone just leave it set so it will open and close by itself? Oh I guess I better not do that. It would be my luck that the fuse gets wonky and then it won't shut in the rain. No idea how to fix that! We are going camping next weekend and I want to at least use the potty. ;) no ideal yet about the water heater so no showers yet. I need a "RV for dummies" book. Thank you for any basic knowledge help you can provide a newbie! :)
  3. It's totally clear. But it is an old timer at hull number 10. Lol od still make a curtain even with a frosted glass though because I like it totally pitch black to sleep. :)
  4. Now I know many of you use a handy tshirt to block the light at your door window.....:) I recovered the head bumper ( I may have forgotten to mail it to the upholstery person!) oops ... and I made a simple roll up and tie curtain for the window. There was already a piece of Velcro at the top of the screen door so maybe it had a curtain at one time? Don't know. Anyone have a curtain? Besides light it seems like it's going to really help with the heat too. Hmmm I still have extra fabric. Maybe some toiletry bags and a dirty clothes hamper? Lol I Have time to sew right now since I'm a teacher still on summer break. Lol
  5. Thanks for pointing out these facts. I was all excited. I like things to have homes. I'm not worried about the after driving condition of the items since it would be things like wheel chocks etc. not sure if it comes in the right width but I did see several options. The rusting thing is something that I didn't consider. Great point. I don't really like the look of any kind of box attached on the back so that's a no go. We don't have much to store in there, I just like to have each camper completely stocked and ready to pull away with without having to grab a tote box of misc stuff. Our Uhaul has plenty of room for storage under all of the seats. I'm able to store blankets, pillows, hoses, extension cords and so on. The Oliver has no real storage for things like that. I'm still working on finding homes for everything. ;) thank you. Back to the drawing board. Lol
  6. Ok. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of camper ownership and I've been googling camper accessories that we might need. ;) i came across this bolt on under chassis slide out drawers. Since we have the shorty Ollie we don't have storage for tool type things. It would be nice to ditch the "misc. box" from the back of the truck. So... a question to all of you wonderful RV experts. Is this a good idea? Would it change towing in a negative way? Anyone have one? Attached are pictures. Thanks!!!
  7. We wanted new cushions for the JellyBean. Somehow this bright red camper wound up with brown and light blue cushions that just didn't quite work. We had the hubby's upholstery cousin sew us up some new ones. Love them. Much brighter now
  8. I learned to be careful with the stalking. Funny story. We were in Germany last week and we were in areas with tons of caravans. I saw an Eriba that was beautiful. Noticed they pulled into a rest stop off the Autobahn and followed. Mmmm I just I should have thought about what a crazy red head speaking excited english and going towards the camper and gesturing would look like to an elderly couple who didn't speak English. Lol I felt bad. They didn't have en visit the restroom. They hightailed it out of there. ???? The Eriba had an interesting cog type wheel that was right behind the back wheel. I wanted to know what it was for. Lol. Alas, I didn't get to look inside either. They were literally the only people we encountered that didn't know English. Lol
  9. Thank you guys for the pics and the video. I do have the Elite I. I just couldn't picture the back dinette being turned into a sofa. Just didn't occur to me that the original ad was probably talking about the little side dinette being turned into a sofa. Thank you for the offer of the extra seat cushions but I honestly don't think I'd use them either. Most times our back will be left in bed mode so the side dinette will be used as a table and a computer station. ;)
  10. I was reading old posts on FiberglassRV and found something interesting. Someone was selling an early Oliver and in one of the additions/ extras it was listed that they had the extra cushions to turn the back dinette into a couch. Anyone have any pictures of that option?
  11. Tons of mirrors! Closet, bathroom, fridge, and all cabinets are mirrored :)
  12. and it's me again.... :) Anyone have any any brilliant ideas to secure the old style sliding cabinet doors? The previous owner used painters tape. Not my favorite. My sister suggested little suction cups towards the middle. That will work. But I foresee lots of little circles to clean off of the mirrored doors. I came across a vague reference to magnets but I cannot figure out where to put them. Anyone have a solution?
  13. I really should be getting ready to go on our big vacation for the second week of June. But I'm not..... I obsessed with tweaking the JellyBean. Lol. Just ordered new fabric that matches our colorful personality. (I will have a whole set of brownish tan and blue covers that look brand new available if anyone has a need) When they made this red Ollie they painted many of the plastic parts red to match. Unfortunately, these parts have not held up well in the red color. They look faded and dingy. I think I would like to buy new replacement parts and have them chrome dipped. My sister is friends with a couple that dip everything from Yeti cups to motorcycles. I figure it will look nicer for longer. These are the parts that I'm looking for and I'm running out of time. I'd like to gather them all and drop them off to be dipped before I leave for our month long trip. 2008 Legacy Elite plasstic door for the retractable power cord vent pipe/cap thing for bathroom vent? Lol Thanks!! Brandi.
  14. Thank you! I would love pictures. :)
  15. Awesome!!! Thank you!! now we have another weird mystery. The cushions in the picture go with the camper. However, those are not the cushions we got. We have ugly brown and blue ones that just do not go with the red. Not only are they wrong but we noticed that one of the long dinette cushions with the attached small square pillow is wrong. The zipper is on the top. So we got two pillow sets that are made for the left side. Lol
  16. My night shades already come up from the bottom so someone must have already flipped them. ;)
  17. Ok. I think we are somewhere in OK. Trying to make it home to San Antonio. Stopped at a rest stop to take a nap and one of the window blinds was hanging by a corner. I took it off and put it on the bed to ride since I couldn't figure out how to reattach it. Any advice?? Also. Am I missing something? Is there supposed to be a blind on the door window? Something interesting... I have read about several people complaining about the cream colored walls. Ours are not cream. They are bright white. Thanks! Trying go stay awake by playing around in these forums ;)
  18. Thanks Bill! I keep searching for more of the story of the red. So far as we understand it, Oliver made a red one to take to Vegas for promoting the trailer brand. It was purchased by a lady to go camping with her mother but unfortunately the mother passed away before they could do much camping. It was then placed into storage for several years where it was eventually put up for sale. The second owners bought it but it also sounded like they didn't do too much camping either. Does its birth sound like what you have heard?
  19. We have met Pete before at a Casita rally a few years ago. In fact, it was his camper tour he gave us that put the Oliver in the running for us. :)
  20. We are soo excited. We were planning on getting a new Oliver in a few years but there is no way that we could pass up a RED Oliver. Hull # 10. Winn and I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas. We traveled up near Chicago to get this baby. We had tears on both sides. Happiness and sadness. I promised my students that I'd be back in time for class on Monday so it was straight up and straight back. It's the last full week of school so it is filled with activities. Dang. My plan to get out of field day in the Texas heat is foiled again. Can't let them down. Lol My husband is retired Airforce and currently does contract work as an environmental engineer. I teach fifth grade science. We like to travel around during free time. We we currently have a 1984 Uhaul. The plan was to sell it but I changed my mind. I couldn't do it just yet. Maybe later :-)
  21. Thank you for your advice. I am no stranger to sewing cushions. I have recovered many camper cushions. I even made new tent ends for a 1970 Apache pop up camper. lol If I have time, Id prefer to do them myself. Here is what I did to our 1984 Uhaul
  22. :-D Weeeelllll. I do like being different and my hair already IS red... hmmm so is my laptop! lol.. I'd only consider a nonstop trip across the US for something unusual :-D
  23. We are very excited to be purchasing our new to us Oliver this weekend. We have been long time Uhaul CT owners. Going to make a mad dash from Texas to Illinois to get it. Wish us luck! lol Gotta drive straight through as I'm a teacher and I can't take time off at this stage of the year. Anyways.... my question is does anyone have experience recovering all of the cushions? I'm wondering about a rough estimate of yardage needed so I can order some awesome fabric. I like lots of color so I want to change out the conservative cushions for something that better suits us. I apologize if this has been discussed before in the forums. I have not come across a search feature yet. If there is one, could someone please guide me to it and I will not unnecessarily bother you again :-D Brandi
