  1. You might want to go over to the fiberglass forum and check out the thread on covering you trailer. (Care and Feeding of Molded Fiberglass Trailers, Cover or Not) . Always a lot of opinions, for and against, but interesting reading. We have ours under a canopy that we had to raise the roof twice, since each trailer was always a little taller.

  2. Larry, the question is, do I even know how to use twitter? I have a account, never used it, and will have to look up my user name and password. Guess this is a reason to.

Larry, you need to chime in on the noisy ac thread with your thoughts on the subject.

  3. Trumpetguy:

Let us know how the Atwood works out with the noise issue. I was on the telephone yesterday talking with Robert Partee at Oliver about the A/C noise issue with the Coleman Mach 8 units. He said they were getting in a Atwood unit next week for testing. Since our trailer is not schedule to be delivered until September 1, 2015; I would like to see a quiet unit installed and not go through the noise problem you have experienced.

Kept us informed and safe travels.

Did you hear anything back from Robert regarding the Atwood? We finally had the opportunity to use the AC Thursday for the first time, and yes, the noise is unacceptable, both inside and out. I took the top cover off and run the fan, and it appears the noise is from the fan itself. Is it due to the actual shape of the fan, and would a different type of fan make it quieter? Just wondering.

  4. Don, like you, my first question when looking into getting an Oliver, was what about a WD hitch. We were almost Airstream buyers also, and over on the Airstream forum, there are endless threads on the best WD hitches. The answers here were, why would we need a WD hitch, these trailers pull so good. We have pulled about 6,000 miles so far, and it does pull great, although we have not made any sudden moves or lane changes yet.

  5. We have our trailer parked under a canopy, and this morning I checked the battery and it was down to 86%. It was 100% when we got back from our trip last Friday. Nothing was left on and the only draw would be from whatever phantom loads that applied. This seems to be an excessive draw on the batteries with nothing turns on. Any ideas what's causing this? And what is normal for a trailers sitting for a week turned off?

Is there a drain to empty the fresh water tank without running the water through the black or gray tanks?

  6. We bought, this spring, a Dodge Durango RT with a 5.7 hemi V8 engine to pull our Elite II. We just came back from a 2 week trip to Glacier National Park and I checked the mileage on every tank. The overall MPG came out at 12.5, the lowest was 11.64 and the best was 14.28, but some of that was without the trailer. We get about 17 on everyday driving.

Our trip in April to the Grand Canyon we got a solid 12 MPG.

WE chose the Durango, over another pickup for the covered cargo space, and when you put the seats down and put in a piece of fiberboard covered with a piece of carpet, it's a nice place for the dog to travel.

On the Durango Forum, the opinion is a CAI will give a small increase in performance, plus a "cooler sound", and we all know that's important. Not sure if I will go that route or not.

  7. For a tow vehicle we got a 2014 Dodge Durango with a V8 hemi. We thought we needed something bigger then the mid size SUV's and the all the other full size SUV's were a lot more money. And we didn't want a pickup. It is really a nice vehicle, and tows like a champ. We have about 6,000 miles towing on a trip to The Grand Canyon in April and a trip to Glacier National Park just last week. Our mileage was about 12.5 to 13.5 which I think is pretty good. Much better then our old 97 F150 that could not even get 10 MPH when we pickup up the trailer from the factory.

  8. We just came back from a trip to Glacier National Park and on the way stopped over one night at Pine Creek Campground, just south of Livingston, MT. This was recommended by Rob Outlaw, and it was worthy of the recommendation. It's a National campground back in the forest with a cool mountain stream within hearing distance and a short walk from our camp site.

Anyway, for whatever reason we left the frig on DC overnight, and got the shock of our lives when the next morning the batteries were at 46%. Whew, panic time????. Yep, afraid so. By the time we stopped for gas about a hour later, they were up to 49% and bythe time we got to Glacier at 5pm they were up to 89%. I am kind of surprised they didn't go all the way up to 100% since it was sunny all day. We got a nice spot in the campground with a nice big hole in the trees right over the trailer and by 1pm the next day we had 100% again.

We had a nice visit with Rob Outlaw and his wife on our way through Bozeman, and he gave us a lot of good information on the Glacier area. I can see why he lives there and I don't see why we live in Kansas, sheese, What's wrong with me. Oh, I know, it's the winters.

It was a nice trip and the solar panels worked well after that. Glad we have them.

  9. That was my first posting a picture on any forum, and since the picture was on my iPhone,oh well, guess it's there.

  10. The black hose connection is in the front part of the rear bumper and was a pain to reach in to connect the hose. We went to Camping World and bought a 10" extender so now we can hook up the hose right at the back end of the bumper. Have not used it yet, so hope when I unhook the hose it doesn't want to unhook the extender.

The other mod was having a hatch to reach in the tank cover to turn the gas on or off. I prefer to run with the gas turned off and it was another pain to take the cover on and off. I talked to Dustin about some sort of removable hatch and he sent me a screw out deck plate made by Sea Dog which works just great. It's 4 inches, poly and white with a screw in hatch, and it looks good. For some reason he sent 2, so if somebody wants one let me know.

  11. I knew it was not good to run with the gas on, that's why I thought it would be a good idea to have a small access door. We had no problem with frig on DC and keeping the temp cold. We used to have a pop up pickup camper that the flame would not stay lit running down the road.

We did have some questions on battery use overnight that we will start a separate thread when we sort out the data. We kept a log of times, useage, and weather conditions on the trip. We used our solar/batteries for 3 nights at the Grand Canyon, later on that.

We did have a couple of other issues. One was in the pantry, the shelves are held up by small screws that go through a plastic loop and into the wall. Well, we put some things that were a little heavy on the top shelf and it pulled through the plastic loop and came down. Easy fix...a small washer and good to go, and only light things on the shelf. I just went and put washers on all the screws.

The other issue was the middle drawer under the sink came loose from the slide. Actually the slide came loose from the side wall of the cabinet. What happened was when the drawers were installed, 2 washers in the back and 1 in front were placed as a spacer between the slide and the cabinet wall. The problem was, the dinky little screws that came with the slides were used and they were not long enough to make up for the added length the washers required. Fix...longer and thicker screws.

We did have a good trip participating in the Verde Birdie thing that was held at Dead Horse Ranch State Park at Cottonwood, AZ.

  12. We just came back last week from a 12 day trip to the Grand Canyon and Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, AZ and have one observation. Whenever you setup or take down or stop for lunch on the road you have to take off the LP tank cover to turn the gas valve on or off. It is a bit of a PITA, but doable. It occurred to me if there was a small hatch either on top or in the front of the cover it would make it easier to get to the valve. Yeah, I know it would take away from the smooth lines, but I think it could be done in a acceptable manner.

    Has this been considered before?

  13. We just spent 2 nights there Sunday and Monday while getting some work done on our trailer. With all the rain they were getting, Swan Creek was up and running at full speed. Never seen it like that before.

Oh, and do you know about the Elephants that live outside of town? They take in elephants from zoo's and circus's that are unwanted or mistreated. Of course you can't see them, but you can visit the facility in town on Main St that is the promotional side of the operation. They have a lot of literature and videos on their elephants. They were closed on the day we stopped by and we were looking in the window when they opened the door and gave Carol and I a 2 person show. Very neet indeed.

  14. We are planning our first trip with the new Oliver sometime in the last half of March. This will be our "shakedown trip" before we head out to the Grand Canyon in April. We kind of picked somewhere in Arkansas hoping it will be a little warmer in March then up here in KC. It will just be a short trip, probably Thur to Sun.

Larry, feel free to chime in, I'm sure you have some good suggestions. I seem to remember you writing about a neat place you camped in that area, I think, but can't find the write up.

I don't have measles, but this camping fever is getting out of hand, time to hit the road.
