  1. Gary,

I have two 30 pound tanks. I do not use the "both" setting and the starboard tank is still showing in the green zone. We will use propane all week while at Skidaway Island GA so that will give me a good feel for how much we will need.

I will say that the furnace is excellent. Quiet and it keeps the trailer as warm as we want.

I will check the weight of my tank next week and make a post.

  2. Last night and tonight we driveway camped at a relatives home near Atlanta. Sleet, snow, and temps in the 20s. We were so cozy in the ollie. I turned the furnace on rather than the ceramic heater because I was concerned about water in the tanks freezing. I wonder if the furnace keeps the basement warmer than the inside heater would? Any ideas on this. There would be some heat loss from the ductwork which would provide some warmth, whereas heat from the inside source would have to permeate the fiberglass walls.

It is preferable to use electric heat when possible (and free) in order to save the LP for when you really need it.

  3. Does anyone know how to utilize the exhaust fan controls that are on the switch control panel as you exit the trailer. There is an on/off switch and a variable control knob. Robert went over this briefly but I a a little fuzzy on what they do. The manual is vague. We had the same Dometic fridge in our Casita and there were no such controls.

  4. Sherry. It is cool to see how others manage a small space. We are still adjusting to the extra room our Elite 2 has compared with the Casita. I bet we find a way to fill up every inch.

Interested in your water bladder. Had one in my last sail boat that worked just fine. I assume you have installed a system to direct fill due to the weight of the water, and general difficulty in handling a floppy bladder. What size, brand do you have.

I was thinking of putting a 50 gallon tank in my pickup bed and running a hose to the water pump for filling the tank. Seems best to carry the weight in the truck rather than in the trailer.

  5. Sherry,

Thanks a bunch for the photos. very pro looking.

How are the panels attached to the roof? Screws, bolts, etc. I am wary of putting any holes into my Ollie.

With that said Robert Partee has conferred with the service department and they are working on a retro fit installation for me. I managed to fit 100 Watts on the roof with Industrial Velcro as the fastener. It has been cloudy so I can't tell if I am getting any PV, but I want at least 200 Watts when all is done.

I appreciate the link and will check that out.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  6. Sherry,

Thanks for the input. I did speak with Dustin yesterday about a factory install and he is thinking about ways to accomplish it. If you have a photo of your setup I would sure like to have a look.

In the interim I will just go with a single 100 watt flex panel and see how it works. I installed the charge controller last week and today will work on connecting the solar panel to the 6ga wire on the roof. Should have gone with 10 ga because the six is hard to work with and all the MC4 connectors use 10.

  7. Pete. Thanks for the input. I have a message into Robert Partee about adding some solar. It is my understanding that they have to mount a rack on the roof, which would entail some through bolts. Not sure about how they would do that. I already have the wiring and charge controller so just need the panels. I will keep posting as this project evolves.

Off to Camping World to get the fridge looked at. Darn thing won't shut off and runs at the coldest all the time.

  8. Stimpy. Welcome to the forum. We just took delivery of a new Legacy Elite II twin bed version. The length is actually 23.5 feet. Our trailer weight on the MSO was right at 4900 pounds with a tongue weight of 434. We opted for the Anderson hitch which makes towing a breeze. The 7000 pounds you see is the GVW meaning you can load the axles up to 7000. That's a lot of stuff.

Expect to pay between 41,000 and 45,000 depending on options. It is well worth the price. I believe there will be a new Legacy 18 foot some time this year.

    Good luck to you.

  9. Well now that it is too late I regret not opting for the factory solar option. Plan was to stick two 100 watt flex panels onto the roof end to end but as it turns out there is room for only one panel due to the limited distance between rooftop fixtures. Fan and antenna. I am faced with either limiting myself to only 100 watts, or making a mounting fixture that will accomodate both panels and affixing it to the rooftop using a super strong adhesive. (I will not drill into the trailer...period)

Ideas will be appreciated but my inclination is to buy a pre cut piece of Star Board to glue onto the trailer. The board will be 42 x 42 so it will overhang the raised part of the roof about six inches on either side. To the Star Board I will Velcro the panels. Bear in mind that these are flexible panels so I need the board for mounting otherwise the panels would flap in the wind and self destruct.

Perhaps 100 watts is sufficient? I don't know my amp hour useage at this point so maybe the 30 ah a 100 watt can produce will be enough. Any real life experience with that? Led lights minimize power consumption, but there are two CPAPs that need to run all night.

Sorry for the ramble. If you are ordering a trailer go ahead and fork out for the solar.

  10. Hey all you experts, I have a wiring question. I am installing my solar panels. Oliver ran a 6ga wire from the roof into the battery box so all I have to do is wire up my charge controller and the batteries. Does it matter if I connect to the same terminals that the convertor/charger is already connected to, or should I use the other two terminals. I am not certain as to how the converter functions, and I would think that back feeding from the solar would be unhealthy.

The new Ollie is just wonderful. Such attention to detail. I look forward to seeing some Ollies together at a rallie.

This is a photo of our new Ollie which is number 64. Fitting as we are Beatles era folks. "Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64.

She is named Setting Sail in honor of our love of the water and boats.

We had a successful, but messy delivery time. It was raining at the campground and ever so muddy. Today was spent at the factory getting some glitches fixed by Dustin and crew. We got on the road home around 2:00 and are dry camping at Cracker Barrel near Birmingham. I will post more photos later.

I have to say that the finish on our new Ollie is the most perfect I have seen. Our expectations have been exceeded.

  12. Stan. Thanks for the reply. As to gas mileage the new diesels should provide excellent numbers when towing. My 2011 Avalanche gets 19 mpg highway, but dropped to 14 with a 2500 pound Casita. I am not ready for a new tug though. I was reading about K&N air filters this week. It may be worth the $50 to see if one would really work.

  13. I did the same. The Winegard omnidirectional antenna should work just fine for me. I cut the cable cord over a year ago and installed a good antenna at my house. Very happy with our local channels plus Netflix. My total home entertainment bill is $8.99 a month.

  14. Steve,

Do you have a feel yet for how much propane the furnace will use per hour? We take delivery the end of this month and Hohenwald is looking pretty cold for us Floridians. We carry a 1500 watt cube heater plus 20 degree sleeping bags for personal comfort but I am concerned about the plumbing freezing.

    Dave
