  1. I feel kinda dumb having to write this. We have been using the water heater on 120vac for the summer and we were going to leave the trailer sit for 2 weeks while still plugged into shore power. As we left the propane was valved out, the inside water heater switch was turned off, the outside water heater switch (located down low on the left side of the water heater compartment) was still on, city water was disconnected and as stated the trailer was plugged into shore power. Returning two weeks later, I connected the city water to the trailer and was running bathroom and kitchen faucets on full hot to make sure the water heater tank was filled before turning on the water heater at the inside switch. The surprise was that after sitting for 2 weeks I had immediate full hot water even with the inside switch in the off position for 2 weeks. After that I looked at the wiring diagrams in the instruction manual and the inside switch is only for the 12v/propane operation. The outside switch is only for 120v operation and will enable the heater whenever plugged into shore power. The two wiring systems and not linked, one does not shut off the other, they each have to be switched off individually.
  2. Once I looked at my trailer, Elite II, it was obvious that the other brands of weight distributing hitches would not work due to the fiberglass cowling forward of the propane tanks. Brands other than Andersen would have to cut the cowling to mount to the frame. With Andersen they just lengthened the chain and attach to the frame further to the rear. Also there are two Andersen videos about their hitch. One deals with installation and the other shows what to do if the triangle plate is way off. How to straighten you triangle plate.
  3. I used a 5 inch deck plate made by Sea Dog and ordered it thru fisheriessupply.com in Seattle. The deck plate is less than $15. The 5" deck plate takes a 5.5" holesaw for the cutout. Home Depot does not sell that 5.5" holesaw at their stores but I was able to order that online from Home Depot. Oliver uses a 4 inch Sea Dog deck plate in the overhead cabinets used for wiring access. If your arm fits in the 4 inch deck plate up to the elbow then that would probably a better bet. The 4 inch Sea Dog deck plate takes a 4.5" holesaw which Home Depot should have in store.
  4. My wife and I picked up our Oliver (Legacy Elite II) and left Hohenwald on 6/6 (Hull #84). We did run into quite a bit of heat traveling back to the Seattle area, even up to 105F in Yakima WA. So I followed this thread as we traveled. I discounted the info on noise outside the trailer. Our ac unit is quiet enough outside I never would have thought it was a problem. While home I did watch a video of a conderser fan (outdoor fan) change from 5 or 6 blade fan down to 3 blades to make it quieter on the outside. From what I can see on the parts listing for 47000 series mach 8 they now use 3 blade fans on the condenser fan. As far as the inside noise, yeah our 13,500 btu unit is noisy and blows powerfully on low. I was expecting to find a possible parts change for the evaporator fan (indoor fan, motor and blower wheel). Unless I'm mistaken all the Mach 8 units (9200, 13500, and 15000 BTU) use the same evaporator motor (part# 1468A3389) and the same blower wheel (part# 1472A1191). The other thing that doesn't add up is the Coleman literature. Their claim on the Mach 8 is that it has the "highest air flow delivery on high speed and ultra quiet on low speed for night time cooling". Personally I'll live with the unit as I'm very used to ear plugs if I need them, sometimes the noise bothers me and sometimes it doesn't. I do feel it is good to have an ac unit that can cool the trailer at temperatures well above 100. Also noticed that the people complaining about the noise were located along the east coast which has higher humidity and warmer night time low temperatures. It seemed as though in the dryer heat the night time temperatures many times dropped low enough the ac unit would stop or almost stop cycling. We did have our compromise room temperature setpoint at 74. Any colder and my wife complained.
