2019 Oliver Elite II - Outlets work fine while on shore power; not otherwise. Lights, CD player work - outlets do not. Checked the fuses, flipped the breakers back and forth, red light is on near the electrical panel, it has a zamp solar charge controller -battery level reads full - any suggestions are welcome!

Off-pavement recovery - equipment and best methods

I'm learning about chocks. Twice I took the trailer off the ball without putting the chocks in. Luckily I was on pretty flat ground. Gotta remember that. I contacted ARK - they said the Jack was an excellent recovery point -so that is taken care of - yah! I'm deciding between the tube mount vs the trailer jack. Any ideas? -

Thanks Sea Dawg. Thats really something - the tow strap putting a hole in the tailgate! Always have to be very careful. It's best, of course, to not get in that situation and my set up (4wd van) is vastly superior to what I had before. Plus with the Oliver I'm much more conservative anyway. You never know, though. -

Unless I'm missing something I don't see much to attach a tow rope to the front of the Oliver should you be unable to pull it out while it's attached to the tow vehicle. I'm convinced I could get my tow vehicle out of just about anything - but the Oliver? I just don't know. I was counting on detaching it from the tow vehicle and then getting at it either by pulling or with a winch but I don't know. (MY winch is not rated to pull both vehicles) . There are the safety chain hooks - I could see getting a soft shackle to attach to them but the shackles they are attached to seem really puny. They are rated to hold the trailer, though, but pulling it out of stuck place - that might be another story. Attaching a tow rope all the way to the axle is quite a stretch - it must be 18 feet or so. I don't see doing that. There is the XO Jack if it can handle the weight. There's also the coupler at that point sticking off the top - it's a big edgy (hopefully it would not rip a soft shackle) and then there's big crossbeam stretching back from the front of the trailer. It's a little funky - it's really big and it hits up against the fiberglass shell but its obviously really strong. Hopefully, I will never be in this situation but it would be good to know the best attachment point. Right now I guess I would go with the safety chains first - they would probably give the most even pull. ???? -

Water not draining from sink or shower / no hot water
Cort replied to Cort's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Woo-woo- what an easy fix that was - a couple flicks of the switch - and the water went down in both the shower and the sink - AND the hot water came back - thanks so much:) One question - the fresh water tank was filled up about five weeks ago and hardly used. When I turned on the shower - the water smelled to high heaven = and when I flicked the switch - a bunch of black gunky stuff came out of the shower (and then drained away). Did I do something to contribute to the stinky water (and black gunk) (did I let the water sit too long?) and how can I freshen the whole thing up? -
This is my first extended trip - so I may have done some things wrong. The grey tank is at 13% and water is backed up in both the shower and sink. The trailer is level. Auto drain was not on when I last moved - and I turned it on and the red light is blinking... Also no hot water - the water is flowing nicely and Truma is turned on and propane tanks are filled and turned on. I've actually hardly used the water system at all - yesterday was the first time I tried to take a shower. Hopefully all these problems have one source. I was getting hot water and good drainage just last week.

Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?
Cort replied to Cort's topic in General Discussion
Found our trailer outside of Seattle - a 2019 Elite II with the full bed option - which we wanted - in the classified section of the Forums. More expensive but very clean - no rust - housed inside - the owner (a mechanic) seemed very methodical - thanks for everyone's help! ๐ -

Thanks! That's good to hear as she has taken good care of it. We've found another trailer, though - it's newer and more expensive but is in superb shape. ๐ -
Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?
Cort replied to Cort's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, Topgun and Patriot. I looked at my emails and saw that the owner asked Oliver about the rust in the hitch area in 2020 and was told it was not a problem. Since she's kept with everything otherwise in excellent shape I think if she knew it might be a problem she would have addressed it. I actually never would have thought to look - although my partner reminded it had been stored at the beach - except I wanted, after reading about the suspension on the Forums, to look at it! I wonder how many people actually get under their trailers and look. -

Thanks Max Burner - Not having any acquaintance with rust I think we're going to be conservative and look elsewhere. Too bad - very nice seller - would have loved to take it off her hands. -
Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?

Thanks! I don't mind getting up close and personal with a trailer and scraping that rust off - but I think I would feel better with something else. I actually think she's done a good job with maintenance otherwise but probably just missed this. -

Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?
Cort replied to Cort's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, John for your insights. Your old trailer looks a heck of a lot different. Interesting you should mention the long beaches, the tides and the winds. For the past year and a half or so the trailer has been stored outside about 1/2 mile from a very, very big beach in Washington. Maybe that's when the rust really got going. -
That's what I see on the overland trailers. I was actually shocked to see the little shocks on the Oliver. I wonder if it could be done on the Olvier, how much it would be, if there would be any negatives.

Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?

As I remember the aluminum frame looks fine. It does have the EZ flex suspension. I will check on the zerk lubrication. The owner did have it to Oliver for maintenance a couple of times. It's been a couple of years but she said no one said anything about the rust. Then again, it's been at the beach since then. I will try to find out if the zerks have been lubed and how often. I think they should be lubed fairly frequently. It has about 20K on it. Did not try to scrape the rust off - I guess that's next. Thanks! -
I'm looking at a 2017 Oliver to possibly buy. It's lived its life in the Pacific Northwest and in the last year and a half in a beach town - and it shows! I don't know how damaging it is - I've never been around rust before - I don't know if its cosmetic or there's a real problem. (I assume the shocks need replacing). Lots of rust on the leaf springs, shocks, axle, inside the tire, and I guess the shackles. If I do get this trailer it will probably mostly live in the southwest. live in the

Checking to see if anyone has successfully done this retrofit. Love to be able to get this done. ๐

Ray's been driving Airstream's all over the west - and is now out there in an Oliver. He feels its a fine boon-docking trailer. I don't see any reason - given a good tow vehicle with 4wd - why you can't get an Oliver into many backcountry places. Clearance is fine and the suspension - while not up to trailers engineered for off roading - seems to be strong. I should find out pretty soon actually ๐

Looking for full-time couples opinions ๐ซ๐คฎ๐ฑ๐ค

I've been on the road by myself for ten years. Yes to heavy duty. Diesels are fine but are much more expensive, less reliable overall (with emissions in the US), and mechanics are harder to find. A big gasser will do fine. (These are not heavy trailers). Yes, to lots of storage in your tow vehicle!
