I don’t know if any of you folks follow the Escape Travel Trailer forum. I’ve been a member there for 15 or so years and I check in a couple times a week to see what they are saying about Oliver. They’re generally a touchy bunch especially about Oliver’s. Recently Escape has put out an advertisement to drum up business (I suppose that is the reason for all advertising). Anyway, the members over there are not particularly impressed with their own trailer’s marketing attempt and have been lamenting the quality of their video.

On the other hand, they seem to have be quite impressed with Oliver’s latest video. One saying, “Now that’s how a trailer video should look.”

    Unbearable! 😂😂😂😂

  2. I received a 15’ extension for my Zamp portable solar system, and the invoice header had the word “Dometic” beside Zamp.  I don’t know if it really is bad news, but I’m not a fan of large companies buying out the smaller folks.🤷‍♂️

So glad we never owned an “Air SCREAM”.  Suffice to say we will never purchase or own anything made by Thor.

While I doubt I will ever have another Airstream, I do believe they’re far better than most American RVs.  The obvious exception is the Oliver Trailer, in my opinion there is nothing that is a better made trailer.

I think that is a fair clarification.  Without an industry standard definition of four-season, we will always wonder how far north we can go.  I will never have a problem in Texas, but I might run into some issues in Thief River Falls in January without taking some precautions.  I plan on camping in Missouri after I pick up my Oliver in late December and I have no fear that it can handle that weather.

My first job out of college was in St Charles, MO.  It gets single digits cold there, be prepared.

Steph and I will be handing those out in about 2 months. Can't wait!

This month, I started into retirement year 17.  One of my better decisions.

    Go for it!

  6. “Boondocking is very appealing to me, not so much for my wife, but she is coming around to it.  The composting toilet would be fine for me as well, but my wife would never go for it.  She has a tremendous sense of smell which gives her migraine headaches from time to time. ”

Jason, I was truly surprised at the lack of smell emanating from our composting toilet.  We use coconut coar in the base of the toilet, and the only odor we detect is a slight earthy coconut smell.  The toilet fan does a good job of minimizing all odors.  Being free of the need (and mess) to dump a black water tank when leaving a campground is a gift.

  7. Tomorrow, November 10th, is the 248th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.  Founded in Tun Tavern, Philadelphia in 1775.  I hope that my fellow Marines stop to remember all those with whom we served.

The following Day, November 11th, is Veterans Day.  Please take a moment to honor those who gave their lives in the service of our nation.

  8. Some years ago, we visited the Custer area and stayed in a commercial CG on the outskirts of Custer City.  While there, we had two credit card purchases that seemed somewhat “unusual”, but not enough so that I stopped the process.  After we left the area, we received a call from the fraud department of our bank alerting us to a few significant purchases  made in England. 😳  We locked that card, requested a new issue, and used cash on the remainder of the trip.  I suspect the merchants in England had to eat the loss.

It could have been a coincidence that it happened after leaving there, but I don’t know.  Don’t let a merchant take your card out of your sight, and don’t allow a merchant to use a device you don’t recognize.   The first  incident is what occurred at the CG, the second was at a famous tourist attraction.

    Caveat emptor.

rich.dev  thank you so much for the diagram. Better than the one that is on basement cover.

jd1923, here is a picture of the deck plates on the Curb side.  The forward deck plate is a 6" and the aft deck plate is a 8" which replaced a 4" deck plate that I had a hard time getting my arm any farther than my elbow.  I bought the deck plates from  West Marine.  I like the lift handle. You lift the handle and twist the 90 degrees, and the deck plate comes right off.  The deck plate are not water proof, but it really doesn't matter inside the the cabin.  The only thing I didn't like was the color was off white.  They said it was "white",  but as you see they are not pure white.

I can reach all 4 configuration valves from the forward deck plate.  From the aft deck plate I can reach the hot water shutoff, the fresh water drain, and 2 of the configuration valves.  Note that you have to change all of the valves by feel, but I have no problems reaching, finding and turning the valves.

I really like those deck plates.  Our Ollie may soon sport a few, including one for the propane doghouse.  After all… plagiarism is a sincere form of flattery.

The Andersen greaseless ball has served me well with no noticeable or excessive wear with the bulldog hitch and no greasy mess to clean up and zero squeaks. I shed no tears when we sold our Andersen WDH after purchasing a TV that does not require a WDH.

I’m also using this hitch, and after a little over 1000 miles since buying our 2018 Ollie, I haven’t noticed any wear or undue scratches/gouges.  This morning, Google News had an article about ball grease that set my worry box in motion.  BTW, the article recommended dry graphite to minimize dirt.

I’m going to continue to not use a hitch lubricant unless I see something concerning.   Am I being overly optimistic?  Inquiring minds need to know.
