Clip18
Hi. I’m following the Oliver Winterization video step by step. All pretty straightforward. I’m at the step of pumping antifreeze into the fresh water tank. I’ve drained it as fully as I can, but it isn’t clear whether or not I should close the drain valve before putting in the antifreeze. Maybe a silly question; I just wasn’t sure.
dewdev
Yes, I close the drain valve. From my experience, I want the antifreeze in there as you can never get all the water out of the tank. In the spring, it is all flushed out and the tank disinfected. GraniteStaters
The step for winterizing the fresh water inlet is really to prevent damage at the check valve where some water may accumulate and not drain due to the design of the check valve. I have never added any significant winter antifreeze in the freshwater tank because if it drained, there is very, very little chance that any freezing would damage the tank. Imagine an ice cube tray with a bit of water in the bottom of the tray. Any freezing water would just fill the void and not press any significant issue to the sides of the water tank. 2 David Caswell and Paula Saltmarsh Hull 509 "The Swallow"
