Images getting squashed!

For quite a while my larger (taller) images have been showing up smashed vertically. I cannot figure out how to correct this. "Constrain proportions" has no effect.

 

I am using an up to date iMac with Safari.

 

The images are ones I have uploaded to my personal server and am trying to link to. They look ugly!
