Not Twin Falls, Idaho though! 😂

Yeah... what's up with that?   Not Twin Fall, Boise, Idaho Falls.  Nor Helena, Billings and near Missoula Montana.   It's like they are purposefully missing the large population centers.  Collusion with cable?  Where are the Hardy Boys when you need them?

Yep...  But...   Thinking that many folks pay over 200 per month for a cable / phone / internet connection.  So, $110 for Starlink plus just basic cable might equal a small savings overall.  Not ready to make the jump yet but... maybe when they get service at our home location.

  3. We have the Garmin 56 and have been very happy with it.  Seamless interface with the app on phone and ipad to get the files.  Easier to see on the ipad.  The previews have less resolution but once you download them they are very good.   A must have in my opinion.

  4. Rough roads mean you need to get everything inside the trailer battened down as much as possible.  Oliver has improved the drawer / cabinet locks over the years but don't forget the microwave glass plate inside the oven.

As everyone else has said... the roof is accessible with a good ladder.   I have a 6' platform ladder that does the job well.  Keep in mind that if you are doing a LOT of roof work in one day... going up and down and moving the ladder can be a workout.

    Good Luck

  5. Oh.. one more thought.    If you find out who this guy is...  You can probably sue him for damages.   But... most states have a 30 day statute of limitations for motor vehicle offenses.  This clearly is careless driving, which is a "willful or wanton disregard for the safety of other motorists / property".  At least that's a paraphrase of the NJ motor vehicle code and I'm sure most states have a similar statute.   So, if you want to pursue that the clock is ticking.  Not sure if charging / conviction of the traffic offense would help a lawsuit but it couldn't hurt.    Besides... he deserves it.

  6. Wow... Propane leaks are scary.  Last year we had the alarm going off but I wasn't concerned because we had the propane off at the tank and were using a  ceramic cube heater.  Did some checking and after reading the manual for the alarm found that they have a "life" span of about 5 years.   Got that replaced so we should be good for this summer.

Your cube heater should be fine whenever you are plugged in.  The thing you'll have to be careful of is getting too warm.  I cranked it up one night and woke up at 2 am and it was 85 degrees inside.   Good Luck and thanks for letting us know.

  7. Oliver is upping their game as far as off grid / boondocking ability are concerned.  Mostly due to improvements in solar / battery / components etc.  I think they can nibble around the edges of the overland market.  Not the hard core expedition guys...   who will go the 4x4 van, Earthroamer, jeep with rooftop tents, and the like.  But the folks who want to get out into BLM land away from the crowded campgrounds.  And still have the creature comforts that the Oliver brings to the table.   Serious off grid / road capability puts you into a whole new category of vehicle, with a whole new price tag.    Any choice you make will involve compromise as to capability, components and price.   Do your research.  Read and consider everything.  I think you'll find yourself coming back to Oliver.

  8. We did a live aboard dive trip in 2010 on the Great Barrier Reef.  One of the requirements was that every diver have a "safety sausage".   An inflatable tube about 8 feet long by 6" in diameter.  Easy to blow up and hold vertically above the water.   One pair of divers came up a long way from the boat (after I was aboard) and inflated it and it was so easy to see.    Without it.. not so much.  The zodiac picked them up.    I never... never..  go diving without one now.

Safety equipment is a must.  This is a sad story and I will admit that after the first reports of them being found I was sure it was foul play.    I hope others will learn from their mistake.

  9. Had a thought....   If you have not found this guy yet.    You might want to post on the Oliver FB group and ask members who live in the area this happened in to post and share the crap out of the photo of the driver.  Give the PD information / phone number / case number.   Someone in that area will know this guy and just might drop a dime on him.   Again, very glad you are ok.  Best of luck in finding a new Oliver and getting out there again.

  10. Interesting topic... having to depart in a hurry.  There could be a variety of reasons for that.   Yet another reason to keep a tidy campsite.   Division of Labor between spouses would be a plus.  Donna usually handles everything inside while I take care of the outside.

And... no matter how tempting to save an extra minute or two...   Do a thorough walk around before pulling out.   Could save a lot of heartache.

    Thanks for sharing the story.

I am not so sure about site B-09; the choices were slim when I finally made the reservation. .................. Toby, on the other hand, is excited about the dog park and swimming in the lake. We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in Alabama. Safe Travels.

Hey Moose.  We stayed in C section at past rally's.   This will be our first time in B section.  B-07 so I am sure we will have a chance to talk.   B section is a bit more shaded and has pull through sites, so it should be pretty easy to get into and set up.  Plus you will be closer to the Pavillion, Vendor area, and Gathering place.  Bikes would be a plus but not killer if you don't have them.    Dog Park??   I think that might be new... and we'll probably see you there too.

Good Luck and see you in May.

  12. I was just thinking that $4 per gallon seems to be the new norm these days.    Plus, $4 seems to be the price that starts to hit the RV market.    What happens if it continues to go up.  If China invades Taiwan?   $4 a gallon may start to look like the good old days.   Sorry to be a buzzkill.

However, I've been told that when/if I need to jack up the camper I should place the jack on the steel subframe as close to the axles as I can.

That's what I understand to be the "correct" way to jack up the trailer.  The problem on a pre-2017-18 trailer is that the subframe is very short.  Trying to find a place to get a jack in there amongst the axles etc. is not an easy thing to do.   I have used the onboard stabilizers as well and not had any problems.

It's my understanding that this issue ..... along with some folks damaging the axle by jacking under them... was what drove Oliver to the decision to extend the steel subframe.
