  1. I picked up my Oliver this week and it works very well with bluetooth. I have over 150 gigs of my music available through my iPhone and iTunes Match. I also use Apple Music, so the possibilities are "endless". Oliver installed some high-quality JBL speakers that I sent to them while they were building my Ollie. Great sound!
  2. Jason and I successfully paired the RF handheld unit without too much fuss. It was very easy to work with Jason on this issue. When I arrived on Tuesday the brake controller was nicely mounted on the Oliver and ready to go. I had the adapter I purchased from E-Trailer to deal with the LED light issue. I've towed about 100 miles and so far, so good.
  3. I plan to pick up my Legacy Elite II on Tuesday, March 15. A few months ago, I talked to Anita about having the single bed mattresses shipped to me so I could have them covered with fabric to make the single beds seem more like seating areas. One thing led to another. I decided that I wanted to choose my own foam for the dinette cushions, and Anita cooperated fully with me. I had the cushions made here in Iowa. I picked up the mattresses, cushions, and pillows today and I was surprised to find that my VW Touareg is filled to capacity with the "interior" of my Oliver! I still have room to drive, but that's about it. I think I'll mount my towing mirrors and put everything else in a Yakima box on top of the Toureg. I've attached some photos of the loaded Toureg Can't wait to get all of this stuff unloaded and installed in the Oliver!
  4. I came so close to buying the Airstream 27 Flying Cloud FB--I called the salesman I was working with to purchase the trailer on the first day of his two week vacation. That two week period provided me with the time to step back and continue my research. I'm picking up my Oliver on March 22!
  5. Does it also work with an iPhone via bluetooth?
  6. We're planning to visit Yosemite in September. Any experiences/recommendations re: campgrounds in the park for our Ollie?
  7. Sherry, Thanks for the information. I was in CA for a couple of weeks and just saw your post. The link you included contains very helpful information that I plan to share with Jason. Thanks again! Don
  8. John, Order to delivery was about 5 months for me--late August to late January. I delayed delivery until late March, however. Thanks for the additional info about the RF brake controller. Will keep forum members informed after I pick the trailer up in late March.
  9. I don't know the exact date, but I think it was in January.
  10. I have a 2015 VW Touareg TDI and I don’t want to drill holes and attach a controller like the Prodigy P2 or P3. My research led me to this unusual brake controller. I've worked with Oliver and Jason Essary (who replaced Robert Partee) is ordering one and a technician at Oliver will install it on my Oliver Elite II which is nearing completion. The RF has a trailer-mount power module unit. There’s a hand-held remote that plugs into the 12v receptacle in the vehicle. For those of us who tow with vehicles that don't have factory installed brake controllers, this is a nice option. It also has the advantage of allowing you to tow with more than one vehicle utilizing the trailer-mounted brake controller. As with everything else, the people at Oliver have been very accommodating and quoted a very fair price for ordering and installing this unit. My Oliver should be ready soon, but I'm delaying my trip from Iowa to pick it up until late March when I hope the weather will be better!
  11. Thanks--really appreciate the recommendation. Do you use the Allstays App, the standard Allstays website or Allstays Pro website?
  12. What are your favorite online guides? Has anyone used http://www.hipcamp? I'd like to hear about what guides you've found most useful.
  13. Thanks for all the helpful and informative responses. Still working on a couple of alternatives.
  14. I plan to take delivery of a new Oliver Elite II this spring. We live in Eastern Iowa and we experience all known weather extremes! I'm not having much luck finding inside storage for the Oliver. I've owned boats and have seen what the sun can do to colored gelcoat, but I don't think the sun will fade anything on the Oliver except perhaps the portion of the awnings that are always exposed and the graphics. I plan to store the Oliver from around Thanksgiving until mid-March. I may get the itch to take it out of storage and head for warm weather for a few weeks during that time period, if we have dry roads. From mid-March to Thanksgiving, the Oliver will be in and out of storage for long weekends and trips up to 6-8 weeks long, I think. So, I'm looking for advice. Should I keep searching for indoor storage? I also have a possible option of storing it at a friend's. He has a concrete pad and I could buy a clearspan structure from FarmTeck to provide some shelter. Advice?
  15. I just returned to Iowa from a factory visit last Friday. Grayson and Carol have described very well what I experienced during my visit. It was in every respect an enjoyable and informative experience. I was also lucky to be in Hohenwald before Larry and Betty left for their Canadian tour. Thank you, Larry, for sitting in the Oliver with me and sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm. I plan to send my deposit to Anita next week!
  16. Good to know. I've driven German cars for almost 40 years--Audi, BMW, Porsche and VW. Audi and VW in particular seem to be doing really well on the reliability front. My 1986 911 is of course absolutely bullet proof!
  17. Picked up a new 2015 VW Touareg TDI on Saturday. Tons of torque and plenty of heft (about 5,000 lbs curb weight).
  18. I found out today that I can take deliver of my trailer in late January, 2016. I fly to California each year in February to visit my sisters. One lives in Palm Desert and the other in Newport Beach. I've checked for a southern route from the Oliver factory to Palm Desert and it looks good. It's about 1950 miles--i figure 5 1/2 to 6 days of easy driving pulling the Ollie. I'd leave the trailer in Palm Desert when I drive to Newport Beach and then pick it up and explore for a couple of weeks before returning to Iowa City, IA. I'll have to watch the weather and road conditions traveling from Palm Desert to Iowa. I haven't pulled a trailer since I was 20 years old when I pulled an Airstream from Nebraska to and through the Canadian Rockies. I've towed lots of boats since then, but no trailers. I'm 66, so it's been awhile. Am I nuts?? Should I pick it up instead in late February, bring it back to Iowa and do short, weekend shakedown trips to get use to towing a trailer again and to get acquainted with the Ollie, or should I make the maiden voyage a 5,000 mile, 30-45 day voyage in February? Be blunt, please!
  19. Thank you all for the prompt and helpful responses to my questions. Lots of great information plus some descriptions of frightening but reassuring experiences!
  20. Hello, My tow vehicle is a 2016 VW Touareg TDI (diesel). 7700 GVWR and a maximum of 660 lb. tongue weight. The owner's manual says not to use a weight equalization hitch. I had originally planned to buy a new Airstream that would have been under the 7700 lb. limit, but I would have exceeded the maximum tongue weight by over 200 lbs. I spent a lot of time talking to Can Am, an Airstream dealer in Canada, and the head of the service department at my local VW dealer, and decided I would go ahead and tow the Airstream and use a weight equalization hitch. Then I found the Oliver. No Airstream for me! So, a couple of questions. First, who's towing the Elite II with the standard Bulldog hitch? I'm nervous about the lack of sway control. What have your experiences been? Second, I've read about some issues with Oliver's adjustment/setup of the optional Anderson No Sway hitch. Are you using this hitch? Any problems getting it set up properly? How has it performed? Would you recommend an alternative hitch for sway control and weight equalization? Thanks in advance--it's really great to have access to this knowledge base.
  21. Hello--I'm from near Iowa City, Iowa and plan to purchase an Oliver for delivery in the early Spring of next year. The posts in this forum have been very helpful! I'm planning to retire on 12/31. I haven't spent much time in a travel trailer since the late 60's and early 70's when I pulled my parents' Airstream around the Western U.S. and the Canadian Rockies with an International Travelall. Do any of you remember that tow vehicle? I'll post a couple of questions elsewhere, but just wanted to say hello here and thank all of you for providing such great information.
