Chris and I will be presenting at a conference on emerging technology here in California coming up next month. We'll be talking about technomadism - living & working while traveling. We're currently in conversation with the organizers, but I think that we'll also have our Oliver at the conference for tours.

In prep for the conference, O'Reilly did an interview with us over the weekend that got published this week. It's got a nice plug for Oliver in it to and how great they are. You can read and/or listen to it at:

Enjoy!

Cherie & Chris,

Great interview! I especially loved the comment about staying at remote wilderness areas and waking up with stunning settings for your viewing pleasure. You are sure to make many yearn for the open road life, with all of the freedom and beauty that it entails.

I heard Kiki get in a meow during the interview as well. Was she speaking from her cabinet hideaway?

Happy traveling . . .

:D Great interview ! Being we're about as technical as Morse Code, we're having trouble getting as communication mobile as ya'll...but we keep trying. We also dumped home phone and use air cards and cell phones so we're being pulled into the new stuff kickin' n screamin' ! Not sure what 5 gigabites is on our air card (using Alltel which was bought by Verizon..) hope we don't get bit $$$ by Verizon.

FYI on CasitaClub.com are good friends of Chucks, Jim and Carol Upton who have traveled extensively with their cat Jerry. He started traveling at 8 weeks and is the star of about every campground they go to. He has his own stroller and is a real character.

Awesome!!! You have met us and been with us...we are the "Nintendo generation" and thought that was "lightspeed advancement". But we are plugging on...computer help on the way this week with our son coming to Quartzsite before he ships out to Iraq....You have an inquiry from Iceland...did you hear from them?

Tumbleweed - 5GB is pretty decent for most folks. If you're doing mainly e-mail, forums and web surfing, you're probably fine. The big bandwidth hogs are lots of video, audio, etc. (ie. streaming TV shows on Hulu/NetFlix, downloading movies on iTunes), bit torrent and web development. The biggest thing to watch out for is automatic software and operating updates.. I recommend turning those off, and catching those when you have free wifi access. Chris and I together tend to use about 8GB a month if we're being careful - and we're both online about 12 hrs a day between work & play, doing lots of media right stuff, downloading databases, etc.

Pam - Nope, haven't heard from anyone from Iceland. Enjoy Quartsite! We were tempted to head down there to hook up with y'all.

What are ya' waitin' for? Come see us... We are amazed at the numbers of people that are familiar with your "contact name" and are listening to your information. They are silent on the forums-- "but listening and watching.," We have had 3 "Ollies" pull in since we have been here.

If only it weren't so far away :) The ETech conference is in San Jose, CA in mid-March. So, we're enjoying being still for a bit and enjoying the San Francisco Bay Area until then.

Geneva and I will be in the San Jose/San Francisco area in August for the US Senior Olympics with our Oliver.

If you have any RV parks to recommend in Redwood City or any other things you would like to recommend we try or do, please let us know. We will likely be in California for the month of July and come to the Bay area for the Olympics on or about the 7th of August. We can linger in the area after the Olympics, or head slowly back to Texas and home, so we can arrive back home sometime in October when the Texas heat is not so bad.

It will be our first long trip in the Oliver. We have to keep camping and dining costs down, as we are not wealthy, so we will stay in Government camp grounds where we can get half price with our geezer pass, and fix most of our own meals.

If anyone will be traveling in these areas during these times, we would welcome your company.

The pickings are kinda slim in the Bay Area for RV Parks. In Redwood City, there are some RV Parks along 101 in Menlo Park that looked pretty good, including Trailer Villa - http://www.gocampingamerica.com/Califor ... VPark.html . We stopped in there to use their dump tanks a couple of times after boondocking in the area at friend's places. They looked nice enough.

We've been staying up in South San Francisco at Treasure Island Mobile Home & RV Park since we got here in December. It's two blocks from a BART station, which gives us very easy access to just about the entire Bay via public transit (easy enough to get down to Redwood City by hoping on BART and transferring to CalTrain at Millbrae). We're only paying $625/mo + electric - which is a great deal for the area. We've been really happy here, great people - but older facilities. The location really rocks, and gives such easy access to downtown San Francisco (which is where the company we're contracted with is out of.)

As far as stuff to do.. the opportunities are endless. Fantastic museums (we really enjoyed the Science Academy in Golden Gate Park), hiking, riding cable cars and all the other typical tourist stuff. Or going a bit north up into the Redwoods and Napa Valley is beautiful. Head a bit south down to Monterrey. If you want advice on great dance clubs or nudist hot springs... :D

We'll more than likely be back in the Bay Area in August sometime prior to Burning Man (week leading up to Labor Day). Who knows when we'll arrive - it might depend if our art grant is approved or not. So, a chance our paths may cross. :) We'll also likely be in Austin/San Antonio come April or May as well.. so an opportunity there as well. Plans past mid-March are quite nebulous for us right now.
