trumpetguy
Has anyone bought the generator box from Oliver. My trailer is under construction and this is the time to add things I may want in the future. I would be buying at least a 3000 wat propane genset. Would the tongue location place too much weight on the hitch? I have ordered the wdh so maybe that's not such an issue. Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted October 6, 2014 Moderator+ Share Posted October 6, 2014 I have a Yamaha 3000 on the tongue in the box that came off our former Oliver. After delivery I started thinking (that's sometimes not a good thing) and I "estimated" our tongue weight at somewhere over 900 pounds. I based that on the fact that the genny and box weighed in at about 200 pounds, the trailer weighs North of 6000 pounds, and a few other guesstimated pounds thrown in for good measure. When I actually weighed it at the factory it was only 535 pounds. So, there you go. I was pleasantly surprized, then at once concerned that it was not even 10% of the weight of the trailer. BUT, after pulling the trailer several thousand miles so far, I can honestly say I find NO need for anything to be added to my standard hitch setup. It pulls straight and true, I'm happy with it like it is. trumpetguy
Just a couple of questions. Will that Yamaha run the new AC? Yes, ours is the 13,500 BTU Dometic Penguin II Are you able to lock the genset into the box to deter theft? Yes, we use a cable and lock, I'll be happy to send you a pic Have you converted it to LP? No Is your box the one offered by Oliver, or did you have it made. Their Box (from our original Outlaw Oliver) Thanks a bunch, Current 2007 Airstream Classic Limited 31 2015 Oliver Legacy Elite II (Sold) 2016 Ram 2500 HD 6.7i Cummins turbo diesel
Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted October 7, 2014 Moderator+ Share Posted October 7, 2014 Sorry, I think I actually edited your original post instead of quoting it and responding. I knew it didn' t look just right. Anyway, I hope that answered your questions. trumpetguy
Thanks Steve. Oliver has suspended the generator box for some product testing. They may re introduce it later as an option. The good news is that my fram and shells are done and we will get our trailer Thanksgiving week. Turkey in the Ollie. Do you run with the tongue extended. Robert says that reduces tongue weight. I ordered the Anderson WDH so it is not much of an issue to put the gen. on the tongue. Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted October 7, 2014 Moderator+ Share Posted October 7, 2014 I don't use the built-in extension, BUT I had the factory extend my tongue receiver 26 inches to accomodate the genny basket. So, in essence, I guess I effectively do. That's got a lot to do with why my tongue weight was less than I had feared. I forgot to mention that I have the thirty pound propane tanks also, so there's an extra 45 or so pounds also on the tongue. I know you guys are excited and Thanksgiving will be here in no time. Maybe we could get together sometime and have a little rally. trumpetguy
Steve, Rally sounds good. I was considering swinging through Tupelo on the way back to Pensacola, but my wife reminded me we have a Christmas parade to prepare for. We have some long weekend trips in mind for Winter and Spring, then a month in Asheville to escape the heat and humidity of Florida. Maybe one of the egg rallys will be a good chance to meet up. The Casita folks are very active that way.
