Mountainborn, Have a safe trip home!! > Thanks Northwoods. Well, our plan has met up with a snag. We got a text message from home that they were having quite a snow storm from Texas to Arkansas. The wind this morning was twenty MPH with gusts up to thirty MPH. We will stage for a bit in Columbus Nm and let the roads clear up a little, then try to follow the storm Easterly. We arrived in Pancho Villa State park this morning after a windy drive down from Deming NM. We met Dutchman, of the Casita Forums there and he was looking forward to the festival this weekend. They were setting up portable corrals for the horses of the riders that are coming up from the interior of Mexico. We had lunch at the Pink Store then haggled with street vendors for a new straw hat. The temp this afternoon was 55* so we will leave early in the morning and see how fast we catch up with the storm.

Thanks, Northwoods, the Grandson has became sick, says he won't feel better t'll he is back home. Yeh, his first trip away from home. We left Grandma's house and headed back home to drop him off. Will likely be the end of the trip. Things have developed on the job back home that need my attention. We are in Deming NM, overnited at WM. Much colder here !

We were avoiding the snow when we turned South on US Hwy 77 at Holbrook. It was snowing so bad that it restricted our speed somewhat. We knew that Pleasant Valley was also recieving a good measure of snow so we continued on south to Globe, spending the night at the Apache Gold casino.

Just got to my mom's house and fired up the laptop. She has some kind of a thing that she wants us to attend this evening. I will call for the number.

We left Grants Nm before daylight, moving on Westward. By the time we were in Holbrook AZ it was snowing so badly that we changed out route to go South on Arizona 77, to Globe Az. A drop in elevation made all of the difference in the world. The Salt River canyon was, as always, most beautiful. Globe is 5 thousand feet lower, no snow and much warmer. We stopped at the Apache gold casino for the night.

As we stopped in Grants Nm for the evening, we found our jim dandy idea of a paper towel holder in the in the floor for the first time. We may be back to the drawing board on that one !

The wind let up mid afternoon and our fuel milage improved to where we finished the day up getting 13.8 for the day. We will overnight at Grants NM, at the wm superstore. Turned on the laptop and there was five wifi sources to chose from ! Driving in the powereful and gusty wind made for a long day. We have, I think, passed through this front, so, maybe tomorrow will go better.

This morning we are West of Mclain Texas on I 40 at a wifi rest area. Wind gusting well over twenty MPH.Fuel mileage is the worst we have ever seen on the Jeep. Twelve MPG ! We overnighted at a W/M just West of Oklahoma City, shut down about 2230hrs , up at 0430 Hours. Caught a Mc Breakfast and fuel, was on the road by 0530 hrs. Stopped into Mclain Texas on old route 66, for fuel, snapped a couple of quick pix of an old Phillips 66 Service Station. It was as they were when we were kids ! This is day one of our nine day escape to Arizona !

I will be out of pocket for a bit, I am going to go see my Mom. You guyz be sure to have too much fun on these forums while I am away. I'll catch up on my reading in a couple of days.

Pete, those boys can have all of them bigguns' from holes under the bank that they want ! I enjoy watching, but from the bank only. That is a sport for sure nuff' tough guys. A fifty pound catfish can whup yer' butt when trying to land him on a jug line. I sure don't want one to have a good bite on my arm when he takes a notion to roll ! Then there is the chance that you might grab a sure enough big one . . . . . .
