  1. Norcold was bought out by Dometic a number of years ago, so parts may indeed be an issue.

What problem do you have with the current norcold?

We swapped our original 2008 norcold for a dometic. Then, we swapped the dometic for a 13v danfoss/secop TF130, truckfridge, years ago, when the dometic failed. The truckfridge was half the price of the marine brands, because it doesn't require coast guard certs. So, galvanized instead of stainless, in some spots. Black front only. No swapping swing on the door. Otherwise, exactly the same as the much higher priced marine cert model, and hey, the land yacht doesn't (actually) float.

It has worked great for us.

  2. I still get quick responses on help from Oliver on random questions on my 2008. The support is second to none.

If you're talking mods, well, you've come to the right place. We have so many engineers and mod-oriented folks here, you'll find help and advice here, again, second to none.

Some of us just can't help ourselves, when it comes to improving and personalizing our well-traveled and well-loved ollies.

    Welcome to the forum.

  3. The unimaginable  has once again, tragically,  become a reality. A large number of those lost were children. I cannot imagine the grief of their surviving families.

Here's how you can help, at least monetarily.  Click on any one of the  links. They all need your support.

The needs are immediate,  but I can tell you from experience,  the needs will be long, for many organizations.  If you feel you can afford it, click on a monthly donation. Or, just remember to contribute from time to time.

My first is always Salvation Army. They were first on site, according to my mom, when our home was destroyed by a tornado when I was a few years old. And, they do so much good, in so many ways, in every community they serve.

If you're still working,  some generous companies do matching funds. Sometimes,  for retirees, too.

You can help, outside of Texas, by giving blood, as well.

May God wrap his arms around the survivors, and give them solace, and peace..

  4. Amazon can also deliver to self-service, secure  lockers at participating retail spaces. I see them at Kohls, Ross, grocery stores,  gas stations, etc.

Check availability when ordering , near your destination.

With rampant porch pirating, and retailers wanting to increase foot traffic, it's a win win for everyone.

Lockers at a gas station near me are accessible 24/7.

Look for the option when you are choosing shipping address.

The only thing on that list that I'd be willing to pay someone to do is recaulk any roof fittings that need it, and that's only because I find getting all the way up on top of the roof awkward and I'm terrible at caulking neatly.

Among my many friends and acquaintances, I can count zero who actually enjoy caulking.  My husband does a better job than i do, so he usually gets the job

if we had to flip for it, I'd be seeking a coin with both sides head, and call tails.

Yet another reason I like butyl, where applicable. We caulk around the edges to shield, but butyl does the job.

  6. So if you go to Fargo, circle back or stop on the Minnesota side of the river, and visit the Viking ship replica, and the replica stave church (built to look like the Hopperstad church in Norway.)

Amazing projects, even if you are not of Scandinavian heritage, like me.

The builder of the viking ship never got to launch it, but his kids actually sailed it to Norway. It's truly beautiful.

  7. We've done a number of Alaska trips, never with the Ollie. Flew up 20 years ago and rented a small class c. Delivered several rentals from Indiana to Alaska over the years.

It's a very long trip. Our favorite part of the trip had always been northern bc, and the Yukon.  But, you can fly in and rent there, too.

Not Ollie purists. We've rented campers on several continents,  when expedient. Love my Ollie, but not shipping it to Europe, Australia,  or Iceland.  Rentals often make so much sense.

Glad you had fun. May is a bit chiller, bit a great time to visit Alaska. Fewer bugs. Fewer tourists. Fewer fires.

Good on you for great timing.

It's 52F cloudy with light rain here in Brainerd MN today.

One of my brothers lives in Brainerd.

Brainerd weather doesn't always look at the calendar. Lol. It SHOULD be in the 70s, but 40s or 50s can happen in June.

At least it cuts down on mosquitoes.

  9. Take heart, folks.

My hull #12 didn't get its plate till a few years ago.

About 14 years after pickup , in fact. Just in time to take the plaque to Antarctica.  Couldn't take the trailer, obviously.

  10. @jd1923, I  used to live near Mason City, and family is from near your Minnesota destination.

Did you camp near Thornton,  at Ingebritsen? Just curious. Hope your dinner was great. We spent a lot of time at Clear Lake, back in the day. Those restaurants are long gone, however.

Bathroom fan makes a very loud noise when running.  I think we damaged a blade when trying to close it while it was still running. ☹️  I'll have to climb up there and see what's

If you decide to replace it, do yourself a huge favor and spend the extra few bucks for the maxx dome with the interior led light ring.

But, could just be your caught a bit of debris in the fan blades. Check that, first. A small bit of debris can make a real racket.

    Congratulations on a great trip!

assuming this is the electronics IN THE SWITCH giving out.  Anyone ever replace one of those things???

Yes. And we carry a spare. And, a spare for the rear jacks, too.

It is possible to raise and lower all the jacks manually. And, I'll also mention that it's slow and not so much fun.

Our 2008 trailer is now almost "old enough to vote", and has lived outdoors its whole life,  so replacing exterior switches due to corrosion, is not entirely a surprise.  Just can be inconvenient. Jd's jumper could be a helpful small addition to our tiny spare parts kit.

With a newer trailer, you might just want to check to make sure you have enough battery power to the switch. The jacks draw a lot, quickly , and I've found over the years that a low battery (i still have agms) can cause a temporary failure.

  13. I'd guess you are pioneering the Pioneer install. Yes, it looks identical to the Gree/Turbro Greenland. I think you will enjoy the energy savings and quiet of an inverter compressor ac. Glad to see they are FINALLY becoming available here in the USA.

The biggest challenge in our swap from the Dometic Dinosaur unit to our littler Hougton was getting units off, and on the roof.

We used 3 people, safety ropes,,and two ladders. Used carpet, upside down, to slide the new unit forward, after getting it to the top.

Install on our Houghton was pretty straightforward.  All these are set for the standard 14 x 14 approximate  openening. We did have to fare out the opening a bit of some jagged edges. I'll bet you find the same.

Have you seen the install manual? Is it possible to connect the condensate line? We could not with our houghton.

Are you planning to resell the dometic you remove?
