Towing with a Chevy Colorado Tow package 7500 pound
SeaDawg replied to jgilliam1955's topic in Towing an Oliver
Bigger trailer, bigger truck. Though "technically " you'd be within the legal limits, your travel joy will be increased with a bigger, heavier truck. Dragging 7k up a mountain pass, one time, in your Colorado would likely tell the story. And, hopefully, a great brake controller coming down. Casita typically have a heavier tongue weight, but not as heavy as an O2. Your Colorado would likely be fine for my elite 1, but towing a 2, other than on flats and gradual ascents/descents, I'd want some more oomph, and vehicle weight. I know it's hard to think about trading up trailers, and vehicles at the same time. My 2005 Silverado is about the same size as a current Colorado, but heavier (6k). I have a similar tow rating. Id personally only tow a 2 in Florida flats. Id be nervous going our route to NC, at highway speed, and up green mountain gorge, with your TV. Your anxiety will be decreased, and travel joy and cargo capacity, will increase with a bigger vehicle. -
Going to update the AC unit with a Tosot
SeaDawg replied to ChristianD's topic in Ollie Modifications
We'll look forward to the finished photos. Then again, many of us with small lots will have a pang of jealousy.... Best of luck! -
Ts t continues to be our choice. Great service

Use space heater when below freezing???
SeaDawg replied to Dennis and Melissa's topic in General Discussion
Those questions totally depend on where you camp, and local weather . -
New to us, 2019 Oliver Legacy Elite II, hull 448
SeaDawg replied to ChristianD's topic in Introduce Yourself
Welcome, from hull #12, 2008. Hoping for you that you live yours as much as we've loved ours. 17 years is a long and fun run . Enjoy every minute. -
Where there is a will, there is always a way. We all do what we can to make our trailers take more time to deal with, and hope they'll go on to an easier target. Imo

Not a cat owner, but i have to say that little kitty is adorable! Our dogs have traveled with us from early puppyhood. Best to break them in early, I think. Liv was an international traveler. And great on planes, and in the truck. Taz has been traveling, plane and truck, since 8 weeks. He doesn't really love planes anymore, but he sure loves camping!

Starlink Mini Installation- 2022 LEII- Alternate Approach
SeaDawg replied to dhaig's topic in Ollie Modifications
So, do you climb up and deploy the starlink mini each time you use it? -
Your old 110/12v probably actually operated on 12v, just stepped down converted power. You'll likely never notice the difference.

I was awakened by flashing blue lights!
SeaDawg replied to Snackchaser's topic in Ollie Modifications
My eyelids must be thin, according to my husband. I'm another one who blocks out little lights at night. Fortunately, very few in a 2008. -
So very happy for you! Happy motoring!
-
Wow! Looks like a "vintage" Elite like our 2008. Did you ever get to meet the owners?
-
Mary, @Roadlotus, I think you've had a tough year, and hoping all is now well. Thank you for your candid response. Its not easy when combining work, camping, and life.
-
Yup. Years ago, it was easier. My 2005 Silverado has a fuse. Messed us up early on (2008) as I recall.

Battery and Solar Disconnect Install Questions
SeaDawg replied to Tony and Rhonda's topic in Ollie Modifications
If he's charging off ac power, but not solar, it's likely an issue with the solar charge controller. Or, solar wiring. We live off solar, home, and trailer, and boat. If batteries accept charge from ac, it's something in the solar panel wiring system, or charge controller. -
NO BRAKES ; 2019 Oliver Elite II-Hull #448
SeaDawg replied to BoondockingAirstream's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
This is not factory, imo. And may very well be at least a part of your issue, if not the entire issue. -
Most things that "go wrong" in my 17 year experience can be handled by me and my husband, or a local rv tech. That said, every 3 to 5 years, we head to hohenwald. Mostly because we want to see the progress the factory has made, and reconnect with friends there. Oliver was always very good at helping remote locations with our few issues.

I get the hesitancy on Oliver's part. A few people have asked me about dc units in the past year, and I've been hesitant, too. 12v requires much bigger wire, and not being able to "see" the available interstitial space gives me pause What do you not like about your freshjet? You were the Pioneer, here, and I think a lot of folks would like to hear your impressions after a few years.

NO BRAKES ; 2019 Oliver Elite II-Hull #448
SeaDawg replied to BoondockingAirstream's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
My experience with electric brakes is, they mostly work. We did have an issue back in 2008 or 9. Mostly going down mountain," nc " would pop up on the tekonsha. Certainly, unsettling. Turned out to be a loose ground wire . Couldn't blame anyone but us, as we drove /drive a lot of rough paths. No problem since. Same Tekonsha. Moved it from 2004 Volvo to 2005 Chevy to 2008 dodge ram. Guessing we are driving more "vintage" vehicles than you are. They are actually pretty simple mechanisms, all things considered. Since your brakes appear to work properly with the Airstream connected, you likely have a bad connection somewhere in your Oliver. Please keep us posted on what the mobile tech discovers. -
Welcome from #12. Happy travels!

@jd1923, you're not likely to ever get full rated power from solar panels. The ratings are determined under standard testing conditions, carefully controlled, to have some sort of industry benchmark. Any honest panel reseller will tell you you are likely lucky to get 60 to 75 per cent of that rating, in real world conditions, even less if you park in the shade, or place portable panels where they may get shade. Why? Temperature affects production. The hotter the temperature, the less power produced. Pollution/smog. Clouds. Dirt on the panels themselves. Even partial shading of a few cells of a panel may severely reduce its output. When we built our house, we "oversized" the system a bit, with the help of our honest installer/privider. So in ten years, we've not had a power bill, other than the base grid connection fees. Those additional panels are long ago paid for. And my fuel cost for the ev is zero, when I charge at home. We don't have enough rooftop on an Elite to oversize a system, so some of us need and want portable systems when we are camped for a period of time, for the additional charging capability without having to set up a generator. Everyone has a different camping style and different needs. Glad the dc to dc charger is working well for your camping style.
