Servicing Rear Jacks

Recommended Posts

While operating the right rear jack yesterday, I heard a loud pop and now the foot will not go up or down. The motor runs normally. I realize something has broken inside and I'll fix that. But has anyone done any maintenance on these Barker jacks in the form of greasing or anything along those lines?

I have an extra jack and I suppose I'll just swap them out for the time being.

Most likely a drive gear broke, this will help you figure out what is going on. The grease in my tongue jack was like Pla Dough. I haven’t pulled the rear ones apart yet….

Have you tried retracting it using the handle? That may work, depending on what broke. That tall squared off shaft sits directly over the jack screw, so if a gear broke it should still work. Maybe….. Please post an update. Good luck.

I haven't taken the motor head apart but recently had to replace both switches on the front jack due to corrosion.  I looked all over for the parts and Barker by far had the best prices, plus they threw in 3 extra fuses. So I would recommend dealing directly with them for parts. Oddly the person I spoke with said not to take the motor head off for greasing and other maintenance.  Not sure what to make of that. Especially after seeing John's "playdough" grease! Curious to know what gave out. Good luck fixing it!
