I have a 2020 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel, which I purchased in order to tow our LE2 (delivery date 9/16/21). I will post towing information once we return to Northern California from collecting our Ollie.

Since purchasing it in November 2020, I've averaged 24 MPG around town, and average 30 MPG with consistent freeway driving. On a recent (not towing) trip from Vancouver, WA to Redding, CA, the truck got 30.5 MPG going the posted speed limits, despite quite a few steep passes along Hwy. 5.

This looks like a good match for the Elite II, excellent towing and cargo capacity.

I’m the outcast with a 2019 Ford PowerStroke 3.0L.  I’m interested in how it would tow an OTT.  It pulls our 6,000# stick-built with no issues, and gets about 15-16mpg without issue.  I can only imagine the svelte hips of an Ollie would only enhance the economy, not to mention reduce sway substantially.

If you're satisfied with the towing experiences you've had with a 6000# SOB, then I suspect you'll be OK pulling an Oliver.

  3. Welcome to the most exclusive club in all of FG Trailerdom. We've had two Oliver's over the past 14 years and are the owners of the first Elite II sold, Hull #050. You are going to have the time of your life.

...Before I pull the toilet up, for anyone who has taken out the toilet for maintenance, do you have any photos of the seal that is used between the toilet and the black tank?  Just so I have an idea of what to expect it should look like?   Is it a standard toilet flange and wax ring?
    Thanks in advance.

Frank, I don't have any pictures but Lee Slusher and I swapped out Hull #050's original plastic toilet with a porcelain throne while out in Quartzsite a few years back.  It was a simple matter of disconnecting the water supply line, removing a couple of bolts and lifting the toilet out. There was no "seal" as in a wax ring, just a smaller pipe exiting the bottom of the toilet and going well into a slightly larger flange on top of the black tank. Also, there was no filth as I expected.

All that said, remember that the gray and black tank vents merge under the vanity and exit out the top of the trailer. If the outside vent exit is somehow blocked, theoretically sewer gases could back up and exit the shower drain. That's close enough to the toilet base to perhaps make the stink source confusing.

I once had mud daubers partially close up my vent pipe. I just took the cap off and put a water hose down inside it and flushed them all back down through the drains and into the waste tanks.

  5. Most likely if you order a 2022, it will be delivered in 2023 so you've got plenty of time. Wait times on fiberglass trailer manufacturers range from several months to several years. Escape is currently out about 23 months to delivery from the order day.

As far as seeing out of the windows unless seated, you won't have enough room to be walking around. Most of the time you'll be on the bed or at the dinette.

If you're concerned about using seat cushions to sleep on, buy the available mattress and keep the rear made up as a bed. Use the front dinette for eating.

    1. This is about the Black tank flush system.   I noticed that there is no check valve in the garden hose inlet. Is a check valve needed?  I also  looked at the plumbing diagram in the owners manual.  It shows the tubing looping clear back around the back of the tank and then back to the side where it enters the tank. What would be the reason not to just going directly to the tank?

There is a check valve in my flush system. Without one, poop would run out when you removed the cap from the hose inlet.

I’m guessing the diagram is not indicative of the actual route of the plumbing. Mine does not take this circuitous path. Have you actually looked underneath the front dinette seat and put eyes on it?

    2. Could  you use the Zamp external charger connection in the side of the Oli for a 12V supply?

Check this connection for polarity before using.

  7. A few weeks ago an issue came up on Facebook concerning a customer that wanted to sell their production slot to someone else because some unforeseen situation came up and they wanted to cancel their Oliver order. It was requested to be able to do this so that they would not lose their deposit of $1500. The contract had been signed in December of last year.

There was a back and forth discussion on FB with no consensus. I discussed this with Rodney Lomax, and reported back there that it would not be a problem. I got a call from him today and the sales team had examined all the ramifications of doing this and decided that they would not be able to do this now or in the future. The sales staff was in complete agreement that this was NOT a good idea and would only add to their workload while not increasing their compensations. (Personally, I agree with them.)

The reasoning is that the deposit is a good faith promise from the customer to the company that they will buy the trailer. I have included the first paragraph of the contract that is being signed by new customers. It explains the circumstances under which deposits will be forfeited.

Even though the deposit money is eventually applied to the cost of the trailer, it is used immediately to be able to fund the sales team's commissions and the costs of advertising. If the the whole process were to be started over, the sales member would be spending an equal amount of time with the second customer with no compensation. Another issue is the new customer is essentially breaking in line before existing customers who have been waiting their turn.

As we all know, sales are booming in the RV industry and the Oliver team is working very hard to give us the very best trailer on the market. They are doing a Great Job! Let's all thank them for all that they do.

  8. The auto function fridges in the newer trailers operate differently from our older Dometic units. They will select from all three available power sources, be careful it at it doesn’t select DC. Ninety per cent of all RVers run their fridges on propane while traveling. We driven >150K miles like this and I don’t ever recall a situation where we were required to turn it off.

    3. As I look at the various wireless systems, they all seem to use wifi to connect to a base station that would live inside the trailer.  How do I create a "wifi" in the Oliver that would provide a wifi connection for these cameras?  Do I need to use my cell phone as a hotspot?

I am sure there are many others smarter than I that have considered solutions to home security on the road.

    Any thoughts?

    Carl

You need the Cradlepoint system installed by Oliver. It will also provide a hot spot for all your tablets and phones.

  10. This will help you get a better idea of what I did. This install was done on our previous 2017 Silverado 2500HD with a Lear topper. A couple of weeks ago we took delivery of a 2022 Silverado 3500HD. The old topper will not fit so this will all be moved to a new one when it comes in. The yellow box is a programmable timer to cut power to the router after a selected time period. I found that it would run down both batteries with its 'constantly on' state if the truck is not cranked every 3-4 days. I set it to 4 hours and that has worked well for us. When camping, if we are going to stream movies at night I just crank the truck and let it run for a minute to let everything boot up. If we need it longer than that time, I just crank the truck remotely and start over.

I searched the University and Forum and did not find an answer.  So am asking here as at least this topic in sort of on topic to this thread.... sort of.   🙂

What is size the inside dimensions of our OE2 battery tray, and what is the vertical clearance from tray to ceiling of the storage bay?

I am laying out possible solar batteries and associated equipment and want to make sure they will fit.

    I thank you,

    Geronimo John

MODERATORS:  If there is a better place to post this, I would appreciate your moving this post as appropriate.  Thanks.

You can easily fit three Battle Born's in the tray. There are a few owners out here that have done just that.

  12. I've a Cradlepoint system for five years. As Mike stated, I did my own install. However, I chose to mount it on our tow vehicle rather than the trailer. When we're in the truck we don't always have the trailer, but when we have the trailer the truck is always with us. This way you can use the system when you're not towing. We have a single SIM, IBR600 router and a multi-antenna dome mounted on the roof of the truck topper.

The system they are installing consists of a Cradlepoint IBR900-120B router and is paired with a roof mounted omni-directional Taoglas MA1506.AK.001 Antenna. In talking to the plant manager the other day, the Cradle Point system will be offered on the 2022 models.
