GMC Rear Camera for Invisible viewing

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed the GMC camera for a Sierra HD truck on their Oliver?  This functions with the GMC camera system, once installed.  Can Oliver install it?  Are there instructions anywhere?

This is the sticky part, I think you would have to mount the camera in the middle of the spare tire cover, and you could’t have a rear cargo or bikes in the way. Where is your tailgate camera located? That will determine where you will have to mount the trailer one.

My personal opinion is that a high mounted camera will work better on an Ollie, tho it will not provide that spooky cool  invisible trailer feature. Plus you should consider a rear camera that will operate when driving forward, this GM system does not.

Hello

I'm in the same boat. I've got my deposit down and my build starts in April. I've got a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 with the trailer package. Rather than the wireless backup camera offered by Oliver, I'd rather use the GM camera so that it integrates into the existing software and screen. I'll see if Oliver would be willing to install it for me during the build. Otherwise I guess I'd have to run the wiring on the exterior of the Ollie which wouldn't look so hot.

You would not have to run the wiring on the outside. Send Oliver the wiring harness and ask them to place it into the belly of the trailer during construction leaving both ends accessable. You can finish the installation once the trailer is delivered. If that fails it is not hard to run the wiring yourself after the fact.

I'm assuming the camera receives its power from the truck and the harness, so most likely there will be no need for wiring inside the trailer.
