Dave Mazone Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Does anyone know why the closet smells of sewage when the black tank approaches 50%, and what remedies might be available? PS: happens when not traveling, too. Dave & Terri Mazone 2022 LII Hull #1019 TV: 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD diesel, Crew Cab (4WD)
Steph and Dud B Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 The tank vent pipe runs through the closet. It may be damaged/leaking fumes and/or not connected through the roof properly. There should be no odor. 1 3 Stephanie and Dudley from CT. 2022 LE2, Hull #1150: Eggcelsior. Tow vehicle: 2016 GMC Sierra 6.0 gas dually 4x4. Frank C Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 There normally shouldn’t be any odor. As suggested, check all the vent pipe connections, and you may also want to pull up the toilet and see if the mounting flange is broken. We had an odor issue and traced it to a broken toilet mounting flange that was creating a small leak into the hull area under the bathroom floor and onto the top of the black tank. Oliver uses an all plastic toilet mounting flange that seems prone to breakage. I replaced it with a metal ring toilet flange. Problem solved, no more odor. Fortunately we only use the camper toilet for #1. #2 is done at campground facilities or roadside rest stops, so the clean up and repair wasn’t too disgusting. 2 5
