  1. My preference is not to use our A/C at all, but instead simply move to a cooler climate. Unfortunately, that is not the case here in northern Florida due to my recent quadriceps tendon rupture and now PT recovery after surgery. We suffered early on for a few hours every afternoon with just having the fan blowing and windows opened. I was of the understanding that our temporary pole and 110 volt connection to my 30 amp cord would not be enough to power the A/C in our Legacy Elite. One of the carpenters here on site kept insisting that I turn it on or go to a hotel. He begged me to do so for days. Finally he got the electrician to come talk to me. The electrician informed me that even the 30 amp connection only provides 110 volts. What matters is what else is connected. He suggested I run the fridge on gas, as well as the hot water heater. For the last two weeks we have had the air conditioner running constantly, still being able to use the lights, TV, and microwave. We have yet to blow a fuse. The electrician said the breaker at the pole would trip before anything in the trailer does. So much to learn about living in a RV full-time.
  2. I am leaving for three days and when I return I will definitely try that idea out. In the meantime, I will shut the water supply off to the trailer until I get back.
  3. Here is a very good youtube video showing how to easily replace the valve cartridge. I will certainly post the Dura faucet model number and valve cartridge part number when Jason lets me know. Thanks again.
  4. I finally found a pdf file online that shows all the pieces. It appears the little half blue/half red vinyl button on the handle pries off and you can take the assembly apart to replace the "Ceramic Disc Cartridge". The Dura faucet is guaranteed to not leak so they will send out a new replacement Ceramic Disc Cartridge under warranty. I just might get out of trouble here yet. Thanks. 5. Wouldn't that mean having to get inside the cabinet? I can't see how I could change anything the way the faucet sits. Jason will let me know tomorrow. I emailed him.
  6. The leak is certainly caused by a faulty shut-off seal. I was hoping there would be something I could tighten. My bet is the faucet will need to be replaced. We are living full-time in the RV now so we have to live with the slow drip. The quadriceps injury was due to my lifting a very heavy mattress over my head while moving it from storage unit into rented DIY U-Haul truck. Plan B has us returning to Melbourne tomorrow to rent a trailer and hire two men to load it for us. This plan will take at least two trips hut I am not able yet to drive a big U-Haul truck. The Tacoma I can handle.
  7. Our new Dura Faucet Bathroom Faucet/Shower Head is leaking right at the pivot. A slow but steady drip is keeping the countertop wet and also the floor. I am looking for a quick fix. Anybody have a solution? I have contacted Jason and asked for a DIY solution, or a new faucet, or an Oliver maintenance/warranty repair appointment. Trouble is, last week I ruptured my quadricep tendons on my left leg, had surgery, and now looking at a lengthy recovery period with a non-flexion leg brace. It appears to me the front cabinet insert would have to be removed just to get to the faucet. Then the caulking would have to be re-done after the repair is made. Any help would be appreciated. Has anyone else had this problem?
  8. Also, here is a previous post I made on my travel blog about securing our Ollie: https://cloudssoswiftrv.tumblr.com/post/172164330189/washing-and-securing-the-ollie-march-20-2018

  11. The reason I could not do what you did @GeoFish was because the city expressly discourages structures that could be turned into AirB&B's. In my case I had to prove this was not my hidden idea, that no bathroom or plumbing would exist (even though I installed the entire infrastructure for permanence such as sewer, water, electrical), and that I was only building a structure to be used as "storage". I was also required to submit for approval plans for the future house to be built at a later date. In the meantime I have a pretty nice campground and a very safe place to keep our belongings. And for the record: having a different real estate agent would not have made a bit of difference. She did a fine job, was honest with me, and it is what it is. We built on the periphery lot instead of on the downtown lot we owned in the historical district because I would never have been permitted to build what I wanted to there and park my RV. It was my fault I did not know typical homeowners insurance cannot not cover a garage until the house is built.
  12. I thought I should update this thread in case anyone else is considering building a "base camp" such as ours. One cannot acquire "builder's" insurance unless the house is started within eight months. We could very well be away on our first big trip for at least that long and do not want to rush into a decision yet about the house. So that option is off the table. We also inquired about increasing the deductible to save money and got this response: "Increasing the all other perils (AOP) deductible to 5,000 will save you less than $40. The underwriter responded, 'AOP deductible changes will make very little difference. 1-2%.'” What we did do is forego the "terrorist" protection and also the commercial "liability" as no one but us will be on the property, we have no employees, and we have nothing outside (excluding the Ollie) of any great interest for anyone. So instead of paying $2500 per year we are now going to spend a little over $1800. It is a lot, but for one year I suppose it is worth it. Surely we will know what we are doing after one year. At least we hope so. Thanks all for the input.
  13. Very cool. Hope the fighter planes didn't get you. Air show this weekend.
  14. I will try that. The agent already knows we will be traveling and storing our possessions in there. She says it is a problem with us not being there. But I will ask.
  15. The insurance problem I believe is a national issue. And the price for what we are attempting to do, if posted, would make us look like fools. None of it makes sense, but our lifestyle was simply too boring and really not worth the time. Retirement on a porch relaxing in nice rocking chairs, eating good food, and watching our favorite television shows was just not getting it. We are pushing the envelope while we still can.
  16. We have been told that yes, we do not qualify for homeowners policy until we build the home. Until then we have no choice but to have commercial insurance. Progressive and others I have contacted do not offer commercial insurance (as in warehouse, storage facility, not-for-profit). The quote we did get was around $2500 for a year's coverage. The liability segment is ridiculous as nobody will be working there, no employees, no business being transacted. This week I will work with the agent helping me and attempt to get the premium lower by raising the deductible as suggested. Pretty much decided on biting the bullet for now and moving on. Pay the stiff price for protection. Construction on the house itself will most likely be started within ten months to twenty so it is what it is. What is interesting is that after the house is built the garage becomes a simple outbuilding included in the homeowner's coverage. The garage structure will not be finished until the end of April. It measures 15' x 30'. We have the infrastructure of driveway, sewer, 30 amp service, and city water in place. Sort of a personal campsite. Our progress in our plan is detailed in our blog which we began just before taking delivery of our Oliver. The link is: Clouds So Swift RV
  17. My wife and I are building a garage on a vacant lot in the Florida panhandle. Our plan is to store all our personal possessions in this building while we travel all over the country. I am told we need to purchase commercial insurance because we do not live there nine months per year and there is no house built on the lot as yet. The structure is 2x6 frame w/ threaded rods for hurricane and wind, all plywood sheathing roof and sides, metal roof, and cement-based siding (like Hardiboard). The windows are impact resistant with wooden shutters. The structure is built like a tank and climate controlled. Does anyone have any ideas how to go about getting affordable insurance for our building and contents? The quote we got was quite ridiculously high and I need some guidance. Surely we are not the first people to build a base camp for our RV. We have sewer, water hookup, and 30 amp service.
  18. Delivery Day was cold, but pleasant at the Oliver Sales Office. Jason Essary was our orientation person and he was available by phone all day and night if I needed him. Jason was great! There is so much to learn for a "first-time" trailer person. There is no way Jason or anyone could fully indoctrinate a new owner to every nuance of the Oliver travel trailer. So as we camped, and tried to get comfortable with our new little home, there were situations that came up when I did not have a clue how to proceed. But a quick text or call to Jason and my problem was solved. We spent two nights at the Natchez Trace Campground. The weather was very cold and we used our fresh water tank instead of city hookup due to the threat a freezing. The heat in the trailer was very comfortable. We spent twelve nights in the Ollie as we made our way home to Melbourne. In that process we became not only comfortable, but halfway proficient trailer people. Beverly has learned quickly how to direct me as I back our rig into tight places, and I have learned a few tricks along the way. All my initial worries and concerns have gone by the wayside. We love our Ollie and look forward to hitting the road in mid-April for eight months on the road as full-time nomads.
  19. This morning with the coffee pot plugged into the receptacle and the microwave running the microwave would suddenly quit before the GFI tripped. Happened a few times. The remedy, it appears, is to unplug the coffee maker until the microwave needs have been exhausted. We shall see. Regardless, there does not seem to be enough properly working and accessible receptacles for my tastes in this trailer. And where is the the surge protector located in these new 2018 trailers? And is there a screen or gizmos to view on it?
  20. Jason has been so helpful throughout the learning process. He always answers my calls in a timely manner (I have called him three times). Oliver Trailer Company has been great, one and all.
  21. Easy fix. Jason returned my call and reminded me of the GFI receptacle under one of the dinette seats across from the fuse panel. It was flipped. I reset it and whammo! microwave works!
  22. Picked up our new Legacy Elite on Tuesday and so far so good until tonight. The microwave decided to just up and quit. I checked the fuse panel under the dinette and found where the 20 amp breaker is. I flipped it off and then back on, still nothing. The microwave is dead. Anybody have any suggestions?-- other than calling Jason which I already did and left a voicemail.
  23. Except for the small inconvenience that it is for the 2018 Legacy Elite II even though the description says it is for the 2018 Legacy Elite. Anyone know when the 2018 Legacy Elite owner's manual will be available? We will be picking up Hull #309 in exactly one week.
  24. Thanks to @davids I found what I think I need on amazon. Ordered a twelve inch that got good reviews and seemed reasonably priced, plus I ordered some two-sided tape, I think Gorilla Glue brand. I was going to wait until I received the switch next week and then run into Walmart (Best Buy is too far out the other direction) and get what I need, but I hate driving in the Florida traffic around here and being around so many people I really do not like. But I love you guys. Thanks.
