  1. Betty said no rocking chair ! I think she was afraid I would make her ride up there in it, like granny Clampet in the Beverly Hillbillies ! Here is a video look, Click to view:
  2. We test loaded a few things on the expedition rack and the trail rack today. We wanted to see about top heaviness, reduced fuel economy, wind noise, load shifting, adjust tie down points, ect.. The rachet straps all had to be twisted to eliminate chatter. Tarp straps had to be added to stop vibration and rattles. The car top carrier sits on top of two solar arrays of four panels each, a sheet of plywood then the cartop carrier. Betty's trike and a dish on the back. The dish is because we arent sure that our king dome won't be in the shadow of some large connifer trees. The trail rack has spare gas for the Yamaha generator, a chainsaw and saw gas mix. The cartop carrier was empty and so were the gas cans for this test. With everything full we estimate it will add about 200 lbs. At 60 MPH we lost about 2 MPG. Our thinking at this time is that we will drive secondary roads, taking extra time to travel to Colorado and reduce speed to 55 MPH for better mileage. So, what did it look like ? Here is a look, click photo for a larger view: Suggestions and input appreciated !
  3. We enjoyed reading your interview ! Please update us as things progress.
  4. Buddy, you don't fool around ! Betty and I are really intrested in seeing the pix !
  5. We have tried several types over the years. I guess the main things are, will it fit over most standard USFS or USCOE picnic tables, and can one person set it up quickly.
  6. Project complete. Here is a look at the heater starting up and running. At this point we think it will heat the trailer in very bad weather. Here is a video so you can see and hear for your self: Click to view
  7. Way to go Karen ! You know, Tom, I think you are right about the badly under rated and often maligned bungie cord, not to be confused with the true work horse of many Industrys, the tarp strap. Have you got any other handy uses for those wonderful camper's aid, the bungie cord ?
  8. Oh, geeze ! Have we have fallen for an internet hoax ? Here is what SNOPES has to say about it: http://www.snopes.com/photos/food/mountaindew.asp
  9. DougI said: That is a great install Mountainborn. I predict you will LOVE your heater. I tried to get Oliver to install one on our trailer, but they wouldn't do it. I may retrofit just like you have. > I have noticed that until they get something totaly researched and figgured out, they are a bit reluctant to do it. I think it is because their drive to get things right is so strong. In this case the plumbing is the big thing and they did that for us. All I had to do is find a wave 3 at a price I liked and install it with three screws !
  10. Yes that's right. As scuba divers, we have placed "stuff" on them humps to hold fish. As is the case with most lakes that have house boats, they ( the house boats ) look for those same places so they can anchor out in open water. Their anchors drag the stuff off of the hump. The humps with natural rock leges are the ones that we love to spear fish while diving.
  11. Hi Cherie ! I guess that the short answer is I dunno' ! We just got it put in, we should have answers soon though. But with a rating of nearly 100% effiency, we look for it to be economical, quiet, and consumes no electricity. With cool combustion air coming in from a window at the rear that is "cracked open" about 1/4 of an inch, it probably will be cooler back by the bed. The roof vent should be cracked 1/4" also for a quality oxygenated air supply. By the way, Betty and I really enjoyed following the Carribean trip events via your TWITTER posts !
  12. Chuck, you know you are right ! One MountainDew is like drinking three and a half cups of coffee !
  13. That's it. Here is a look at how it clears the generator box: Click for larger view.
  14. The safety warning is clear and is consistent with our current practice. Leave the roof vent cracked about 1/4 of an inch and a window near the rear cracked about 1/4 of an inch. I expect that most of us are aware of things that can use up the oxygen in our Ollies since they are so tight.
  15. For those times when you need to remove the wave 3 for a light dusting, ect., just click the disconnect out of the shield, then lift up on the heater. The heater is secure and doesn't rattle, but it readily lifts off of the wall for maintennance.
  16. Our wave 3 arrived well packed and in good condition. Fully assembled and ready to mount either horizontal or verticle ( we chose verticle ), the installation kit was really simple. Three plastic anchors and three screws, with a paper template to insure accurate placement of the holes for the anchors. The directions were accurate, simple and right to the point. Our home install went well. Remember, click to enlarge.
  17. Our online research on the wave 3, told us that the platinum impregnated catalytic element, ( it looks to me somewhat like a sterile cotton gauze pad from a first aid kit ), was pourous and could become clogged with dust when not in use. We made sure that the one we ebayed had a cover for when it wasn't being used. Because the wave 3 needs some modest care and inspection, we wanted it installed so that we could quickly disconnect the propane line and dismount it from the wall.
  18. Before our trip to Hohenwald, we had talked to Robert about the wave 3 heater. They had never installed one, but, they had made one new unit ready so one could be installed by the owner at a later date. We opted for that, plus we asked that the courtesy light under the closet door be moved to the right. After we got back home we began to shop ebay for a wave 3, eventually finding one. Here is the clever shut off valve and disconnect assembly mounted in the protective shield below the closet door: Click the photo to enlarge for better detail.
  19. Hey, Chuck ! Please post a photo of the skinny tarp strap for the cabinet drawrs !
  20. Here is a link to the video of the door stop in action:
  21. This thread might well be named "JUST HOW COLD CAN THAT SEAT GET ANYHOW ? " It's not so noticeable in the Summer. But, the Winter, now, that's a different thing. That little heater purring quietly under the small dinnette, can keep the interior quite comfy in even in pretty adverse weather. But that bathroom door just naturally wants to swing shut, and that magnetic seal closes the door all the way. When that happens, the bathroom is totaly unheated, and the plastic seat becomes a medeival torture device ! Betty and I have placed a small trash can in front of the door as a door stop to keep it from closing, but have tripped over it, and it doesn't keep the door all the way open. We just have never had a good solution for the cold seat bathroom door problem. Until, we stopped by the SCUBARX's, in Tupelo, MS.. We were in their Ollie looking at some mods, when he opened the bathroom door and I heard a click. He turned the door loose and it stayed wide open ! Interupting the flow of conversation, I went into a Q&A on how he had made it happen. Here is a look at the Scubarx door solution: ( his looks better ) > Another look: > > Since still photos might not give a good look at how it works, I will upload a video at the first opportunity. Thanks Steve and Tali ! For your hospitality and this great idea !
