  1. Oh, geeze, Tom, I didn't realize .. .. .. .. .. Mom always told me to stay outta' them bars. If she sees this, I may have to pull it !
  2. Found a place to Boondock that you really like and are willing to share with other Ollie Owners ? Here is the place to list the directions, coordinates, photos, videos, descriptions and nearest food, fuel, bait, dump station, ect.. Let's start this thread off with a free place to camp, and it's right on the water ! ROCK CREEK CAMPGROUND, LAKE GREESON ARKANSAS Elevation= 701 feet above sea level Coordinates= 34* 12.463 North 093* 45.622 West Rock Creek is a large inlet off of the main body of Lake Greeson. Water sports such as water skiing are not allowed on that part of the lake. It is a fisherman's part of the lake and it is quiet. This inlet is calm and an ideal location for a kayak, canoe, foldbote or john boat. Boat launching is from an old road that goes down into the lake. A shallow draft water craft such as a canoe can travel up into the far reaches of rock creek for some really great pan fish fishing ! There are no signs with all of the usual postings such as, " no lifeguard present, swim at your own risk", or, "road ends in the water". There is no fee drop slot and any ranger that seldom makes a patrol round gives a friendly wave as they pass by. The campsites are at the end of a dead end road, traffic is very light. No water, no electricity, no dump station. There is however a recently refurbished vault type toilet, with tissue provided. The last time we were here the roof of the outhouse was covered with badly deteriorared and moss covered wood shingles. It now has new screens and new asphalt shingles on the roof, to go with a new coat of paint. > At the time of this visit there were a total of three campers there, a 34 foot fith wheel, a school bus camper and a 20 foot travel trailer. A short distance West of Daisy Arkansas, on US Hwy. 70, you will turn South at this sign: > Coordinates for this turn= 34* 14.212 North 093* 50.482 West The turn is posted with a sign indicating 6.2 miles to Rock Creek. It is all gravel roads from here on. While driving to the turn off to Rock Creek, you will pass the nearest location for Gasoline, groceries, fishing tackle and live bait. This is a "Mom & Pop" business, located at "THE STAR OF THE WEST" recreational area, located right on US Hwy 70 where it crosses the Little Missouri River. > Coordinates on US Hwy 70 = 34* 14.429 North 093* 50.003 West This is a really good rural general store and there is a "whittlin' and spittin' bench out front where critical information such as, " what are they a' bitin' on today ? " is traded daily. It is a wildlife check station and many of the local oudoorsmen have a photo on the wall proudly displaying a trophy Turkey or Bass. Here is a three minute video clip showing the last part of the road to the campsite and a quick look around once there: > At the time of this writing, there was no time limit on how long a camper could stay posted, but you might be reminded of the 14 day stay limit before you have to move to another site. This is a good fishing lake, so if you have trouble hauling all of them ol' bigguns' in, call me ! My cell number is: 479-243-5450 if you need more.
  3. Seems like one of the things we enjoy about being on the road and out of doors, is watching the sunrise and set. I'll bet it is the same with a lot of folks. We try to capture the wonderful moment on film, from time to time, and bet that others do too. Lets see some of those great sunrise / sunset photos from your travels ! > Jug Fishing Sunset Lake Greeson, Arkansas 2006. A front was coming out of the North West that evening and the line of clouds caused the sun's rays to fan out beautifly. The storm scattered the jugs all over the place, but we had a good catch.
  4. Yepper', they ain't nutthin' like a meal at the lake ! > In this photo our neice has just asked, " hey, can I have a taste ?" The answer was, "Oh, honey, it'll be ready in just a minute". > > Well, not getting a clear cut answer to her question, she was left to decide for her self. Well, duuh ! It's the lake, you know what happened. Here is the photo: > > If you notice, she didn't waste any time with the trimmins', she went straight for the fish !
  5. Someone on another forum asked a similar question, here is the photos I took: Tongue leveled: > > Hitch height: > Note that the 19 inch mark on the tape measure is beside the bull dog hitch at the height of the top of the ball on the tow vehicle.
  6. Tumbleweed, this one is located out on the lake, we didn't get a chance to go there during your visit. > A very cool thing about geocaching is that it will take you to some really nifty but not well known historical sites. > Some on here may remember Movie Star Clint Walker. This was his grand pa's homestead place during the 1900's. The lake was flooded in the 50's, but the old homesite is still above the waterline. This is is a paste from a post I made on a geocaching forum. > ANIMAL MUGGLED CACHE ? > We havn't heard from the cache owner yet, but think that the cache was muggled by wildlife. Here are the photos: > > > > > There was no log book, but the scattered swag matched the description of some of the swag listed on the cache page.
  7. Great photos and thanks for the ideas, Andrew ! I like how the rubbermaid tote fits in the dinette space.
  8. Oscar, you keep away from them alligators, now, ya' heah' me ?
  9. Man, that sounds good ! I just can't wait till I retire to get in on some of that fun !
  10. Geri, we usually carry a small appartment sized freezer to the lake with us. The freezer has ice in it that is replaced with fish as we catch them. Butcherknife bags up the carefully trimmed fillets in different sizes, a meal for just us, a meal for if we have company and our favorite size, the WOO HOO come on over we gona' fish fry size ! The Friday night catch that netted ninety seven pounds of fish filleted out into a three gallon bucket brim full of carefully trimmed fillets. The freezer ain't full, yet, but we are a' workin' on it ! About the rock neclace, seen em', touched em', handled em', coveted em', yet never had one. There is such a fantastic amount of work involved and many fishing trips. They say, here in the inter Mountain region that another fresh water fish, the drum, has a rock also. Personaly, I couldn't say, never went a' prowlin' through a fish's brains a' lookin' fer' one.
  11. Retired drug dog Dillon helps me to inspect one morning's catch from a couple of years ago:
  12. About the hockey mask & tree photo: I am standing by a Indian Trail Marker tree. It is located on a very old "settlers" trail that crosses the Cossatot River nearby. Cossatot is translated from the indian language as, "skull crusher", because the swift clear river can really get up and rage at times. Sometimes called a "thong" tree because they were formed by using a leather thong, they give direction of travel and other information. They were an early American road sign for travelers. This one was made just after the civil war. This old trail was a wagon trail at that time. It points to a very good spring of water with large trees to camp under. There are signs of the spring's use for many, many years before that period. For example, evidence of flint knaping to make arrowheads and other tools such as hide scrapers. The age of white oak trees can be determined by measuring their circumfrence at a height of 60" then a small multiplication problem. Treasure hunters or artifact hunters just love to find ancient signs such as this tree, hence the silly disguise, and the GPS showing that the position is marked.
  13. BuffaloBob, we cain't wait till we can camp out with you guys ! No wait, Butcherknife and Butterknife would sit up all night trading stories about us and we would suffer setbacks in our devious ways that we might never recover from !
  14. Tumbleweed brought his GPS with him and we found a few caches located around the Lake. He just seems to naturally go to the right place to find the cache ! The first find was a clever cache appropriately named "THE PUSHBUTTON CACHE". Within a couple of minutes Chuck was pushing the right button to get the cache to pop suddenly from it's hiding place !
  15. The bait we use is the natural food source for the catfish, another, but smaller, fish. The last jug was coming up the inlet towards Kirby Landing campground. The fish was towing the jug out in open water. No tangle in under water trees, ect.. The third week of June we have another vacation coming up. Maybe we can get togather for some fishing if your schedules could fit it in.
  16. Last day of a wonderful two week stay at the lake. We didn't plan on fishing all that hard, so we didn't bring our small freezer, like we usually do. We should have. One cast of the jugs caught ninety seven pounds of fish. Here is the pre dawn campsite scene:
  17. I hope I am too, Tom. Here is the video of that catch: >
  18. Grits, grits ! My middle name is grits ! Yeh, we like grits ! My picture ? Girls can take pix also ? Why, yes they can, here is one my sweetie took of me. You may have trouble recognising me because of the camo I am wearing: Photo credit: Butcherknife
