  2. A few years ago, topgun2 created a filter for his MaxxFan that I really liked, but the frame material he used was no longer available.
Although this is my version below, it is similar to his.

    BCDFA75D-9ED6-4C8F-9805-D06E408F702F.thumb.jpeg.956f1e1867fd597847fff3f2c632b228.jpeg

So I kept it in the back of my mind and often looked at different materials to create my own.  I tried some vinyl channel that was used in shower glass installations, but it was too flexible.  My next version was metal channel that I am unsure of it’s purpose, it worked pretty well, but I kept cutting my hands on the mitered corners.  Then I found some plastic or PVC channel at Lowe’s while shopping for PVC lumber and it worked pretty well.

This is the frame material from Lowe’s.

I removed the round screen filter and stored it somewhere I might be able to find or maybe not.  I measured the fan frame and cut the channel to size.  Then I cut some sheet aluminum into triangles and glued up the frame using the triangles for corner supports.

Then the filter material was cut to size and inserted into the slot and then Velcro Command picture hanging strips were used to hold the filter frame to the MaxxFan frame.  This resulted in gaps between the frames which I filled with leftover filter material.

The result is a removable filter that can be washed and reused and the fan blades require less cleaning.

He recently saw my version and asked me to post it for you to see it and improve upon for your own needs.

  3. I was able to reuse the Zamp CC hole to mount the display/RPi with industrial Velcro.  The wall thickness blocks two of the four USB ports and I would probably separate the display and RPi which would allow access all four USB ports.  I have taken a peak at the tank sensor issue and there is some mention of the SeeLevel sensors on the the Victron support pages, but the Venus software is provided by Victron free of charge and it is open source they do not provide much development on non Victron products.  If SeeLevel tank sensors are supported, it seems like it will be done by the Victron community.  I seem to remember some talk about an interface between the Victron and SeeLevel sensors, but I am not positive.

I will work on a parts list of the products I used instead of what I bought.  I'm not very good at planning so I generally bump my head a lot as I work through issues.  So I purchased some items I didn’t use and some items that I would have needed with a CCGX or Cerbo GX installation, like VE.Direct to USB Interfaces.

  4. I have 10 7" wire tethers that I saved from some shop lites that I used for a front access hatch lid tether.  I replaced one of the flange mounting screws with a nut, bolt and washer and I used a self tapping screw and washer on the lid.

I brought them to the 2019 rally for a swap meet that I don’t think happened and they will be with me at the non-rally.

It all looks very similar. So you’re using VRM for control?  If so, then I think you have the same control as a CCGX. Basically duplicates all the same menus.

    Very cool.

I initially used the touchscreen for system setup.  And I have made changes through the VRM remote console, but the touchscreen is much easier to use.

Has the Escape Room in Statesville opened yet?  We wanted to stay there with Harvest Hosts last year but the escapes weren't being run at that time.

No they are not open because of COVID, but Kim the HH invited us to stay anyway.  She was very gracious and stopped by the evening of our stay to make sure everything was ok.  It was disappointing that we couldn’t go inside and see the church and what they had done to it.  It was different staying in a downtown area but it was convenient to the interstate we came in on.

Cool. So is there any control functionality in the display or via software?

I believe I can do anything that the standard CCGX or the Cerbo GX and GX Touch can do.  Since I have never had a chance to play with a CCGX, I’m not really sure.  And I only have a MPPT CC and a BMV, so I can only see the DC side of things.

You tell me if it looks like any functionality is missing.

The missing data is while out camping as I don’t have any connectivity without WiFi and my storage solution didn’t work, so it’s back to the drawing board.

  8. Victron Venus OS on Raspberry Pi

I wanted access to Victron's VRM server for remote access to my solar/battery system, but I couldn’t justify the cost of the Color Control GX display or the newer Cerbo GX and GX Touch 50 display. While talking to a friend who has a CC GX, he mentioned the Raspberry Pi based CCGX.  So this is the result.

We have reservations at Sherando Lake Recreation Area in Virginia next month; this is a hard place to obtain a reservation, it has always filled up fast.

I forgot to mention that access to the campground is by keypad code if no one is manning the gate house. The code was in my reservation email and I didn’t pay any attention to it.  So when we pulled up to the gate, we couldn’t get in. The is no Verizon coverage, so we had to turn around and backtrack about 3 miles to find cell coverage and retrieve the email and gate code.

Several campers complained about the gate code requirements because they didn’t read the email any better than I did.  None of the campground personnel would provide the gate code to you as it is a security issue.

Due to COVID-19, the campground is short on staff and part of the campground and facilities were closed.  You may have a different experience being a month later.

    Good luck,

Most likely it was you, things happen in a flash  you see the Ollie out of the corner of your eye then do a head snap at 70mphs it was my first Ollie sighting.  If your ever in bad weather conditions which happen quickly in Florida and Ocala is close by  I have plenty of room for an overnight stay. Bad weather or good.

Thanks for the offer, but we are just 90 minutes down the road and being a native, I know exactly what you mean when you say the weather changes quickly.

We were visiting a friend who is hosting in loop C.
It is a nice campground that has a variety of hiking trails.  There were vacancies each day we were there, but it was Monday through Wednesday nights in early April.  And we made our reservations in February.

If you haven’t been there before, it should be a nice visit and the trees should be in full bloom.  They were still bare while we were there.

  13. Landrover,
Krunch and I passed through Ocala Sunday on I-75 S somewhere around 5 PM.  As I remember, it was raining because it rained on and off all the way to Lutz. We were booked for the night at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park,  but it was raining when we crossed the Georgia state line and radar suggested the rain wouldn’t pass through until about 11 PM.  We decided to head home, so it may have been us you saw on I-75 S.

    Unabashed Oliver Fandude!

If I am the Fanboy, as some have said and you are now claiming the title of Fandude, I guess you are no longer the "almost Old guy" as you recently posted, but have in fact passed that threshold as the term boy and dude would indicate.
Or you are just a " The Big Lebowski" fan! 😄

    the dude abides,

  15. I knew they would be flying for the SB and I also knew they were practicing the stadium flyover on Friday evening.  I was feeding the dogs Friday when I heard them coming.  So I ran out to the back yard just as they cleared the roof line and I didn’t ave my phone.  They were all in clear view and at a lower altitude on the Friday pass.  I hoped they would be coming by after the National Anthem before the SB, so I was waiting when they came by.

I believe they were flying home last night.  One was from Missouri, one from Utah and the other was from Minot, ND.

  16. This video is of the B52, B1 and B2 bombers that flew over RayJay before the Buccaneers Super Bowl 55 victory.  And if you add all of B's up you get 55.  Somebody had their thinking caps on when they put the fly over together.  Watch the left side of the picture for the B1 and B2.  They were blocked by the trees.  The B52 flew right over the house.

  17. I have said this before and I will say it again, camping under a tarp, in a tent or any sort of a RV is a participation sport.  So be prepared to get involved.

I bought a 6 month old Oliver, so I didn’t get an orientation at the factory.  And the Oliver is my first RV.  Although we did rent a 24' class C in Alaska for 3 weeks in 1999.  So I really was a newbie and I still am.  The little I do know about RV's is what I have learned here on the Oliver forum and other forums that I sometimes visit as well as the things I have learned myself playing in my OTT.
I have been called an "Oliver Fan Boy" before on this forum, so continue reading with that knowledge!

I do have some experience analyzing problems I have come across in life and I usually begin with the question, what did I do wrong.  As an example, I found the front EZ Flex shackle on the street side flipped while setting my jack pads at a new campsite.  When I first looked at it, I didn’t know what was wrong, I just knew it was different than the rear shackle and I really wasn’t sure which shackle was in the correct position.  So I looked at the curbside shackles and determined that it was the only 1 that was different.  So I began thinking about how it happened and how long it had been in that condition and quickly determined that it was a mystery that I probably couldn’t answer.  It was more important that I figure out how to get it back in it’s proper position.  While traveling the next day, I remembered hitting a very large bump crossing the Mississippi River the day before while heading to the campsite where I first discovered the problem and I now believe that is when the shackle must have flipped.  Can I prove that?  No, the best I can do is guess.

Before retirement, I worked in the wireless telephone business for 30 years.  The company provided cell phones as well as more sophisticated equipment for me to test the network.  When air time cost 54 cents per minute and you dropped a call in my territory it was my job to figure out why.  This involved tracking down the call records and recreating the problem and then verifying it was a repeatable issue while drive testing the area and then making a plan to correct it.  And you would be amazed at how many of those dropped calls involved deals that lost million dollar.  Fast forward to unlimited calling plans and I now had tools that allowed me to look at a map with all of the problem calls that happened in a given area by the minute, hour or day.  The bottom line was that I, as an employee was given the tools to test the network just like my customers did and it was pretty effective.

Now my question is:  How many Oliver employees actually own an Ollie?  My guess is not many!  They may own SOB of RV, but I doubt many of the men and women building, servicing and selling the Ollie's we own, could afford to own an Ollie themselves.  That doesn’t mean that they lack pride in the jobs they do, they just may not have the user experience that we OTTO's have.  Their expertise is in building and servicing OTT's and I don’t think that always translates to experience skills.  And most front line employees work from a script and really don’t have any practical experience concerning the the product they are helping you with.  They all learn as they work in a particular job and then they move up to a different job and the process begins again.  There is an acronym for that, OJT.  I know that's how it worked for me in my work experience.

I do agree with topgun2 concerning air down your tires at pickup instead of going to Walmart.  After all, you just might teach somebody with less experience than yourself, something new.  And even if it’s not a teaching moment it may provoke conversation around the break room about the crazy guy that only wanted 50 psi in his tires and that might spark change.

I will add that I generally air my tires up to 50 to 52 psi.  But I didn’t start there, my tires were closer to 80 psi the first time I checked them.

My experiences RVing are just that, mine.  They may or may not apply to your circumstances.
