I just watched this video and it got me thinking harder about deterrents....

They mention using your truck remote to start your engine, if it has that feature. If you leave your headlights in Auto the lights will come on also. Brilliant..... unless it tempts the bad guy to bust into the truck and drive away.

Or you can use the panic button to engage the truck security alarm. That sounds good, if the remote range is adequate.

Any ideas on how to easily wire ALL the exterior lights in your Ollie to a single prominent switch near the beds? I don’t want to wake up all confused and muzzy at 200 AM and have to walk to the entrance and figure out which switches to flip. I guess it could include a loud alarm.

Has anyone installed a security system in their trailer? How about a peep hole in the door? I am concerned about large bears as much as about human predators. Please advise.

You should repost your  shotgun mount  mod. I always thought that was a great security feature 😳

    Landrover,

I certainly wasn't talking about while towing. Only at camp.

Obviously,  our (princess) dog rides in her prime seat in the back seat of the truck, while traveling.

I guess I should have made that more clear?

my apology’s  mis read when you said with the trailer in tow. My mistake

As Scubarx said,, if we are camping  in the summer with the trailer in tow, the oliver is the safe place for the dog, not the truck.

Bath window and vent open, bath door propped open, fan on. The trailer is secure. The dig is comfy.

I will say, we don't travel out  west in extreme summer desert heat.

If humans aren’t allowed to ride in travel trailers while in tow, I think the same goes for animals. The Tv would be a safer place. Have you ever seen a trailer trailer in a roll over crash?  Nothing left to it. Maybe not the same results with the Oliver. Tv heavy damage but stayed intact. I could be wrong. My opinion only.

So I don’t know how I found it but located a number for Epic finance and asked if they were working with Oliver.  Spoke with underwriter about used purchase and they do not do any private purchase loans, only dealer. I asked about how they handle the 50% payment at the start of production that is 10 weeks prior to close and she was unable to find any information on that. Sounded like it was a somewhat new relationship and they only had one lender at a 15 year or less term and she wouldn’t quote a rate because they were still setting up lenders. It was a little concerning since I think she had a rate in front of her and almost said it and decided not to. Idk... I guess I at least found out a private purchase would have to be from elsewhere. Was hoping for a 20 year term option on new for more flexibility (want to payoff sooner for obvious reasons) but maybe there will be one.  Admittedly haven’t talked to Oliver yet since I’m hoping to see Elite I before putting in $2,500 for order. Maybe they’ll have more details ironed out?

Not positive I don’t think you will find a 20 yr loan on a Rv unless it’s 50k or higher that’s on new. Used you might get 7-10 yr loan if only a couple years old it will still have to be a high purchase price. Check out Rv sites that offer loans good Sam etc. you’ll see how they break down financing. Good luck,

    Mch -

Recently Oliver has started using a new (different) finance company for helping people finance their travel trailer.  I know that this new company is offering a number of things that previous ones did not.  It is possible that one of these "new" offerings just might be financing for "used" Olivers.  Try calling the Oliver sales office.

i glad to hear they have a new group. The one they had  before was a third party lender I had a difficult time with them. They would not provide the actual lending institute they were using or Would give a accurate interest rate. Hope this is a direct lender.

  6.  I think I posted this some time ago.  When I looked at financing a used Oliver there was no bank or credit union that would consider financing, as you stated there is no NADA used values.  At the time the only option was personal loan, @ 9% for 3yrs and a large down payment,  or a home equity line of credit. To much paperwork and still high interest rates.  This is the only disadvantage of buying a used Oliver,  but a benefit for owners, the ability of asking higher used values. Cash purchase is the best option on used Oliver.  The other disadvantage that I found most Rv dealers won’t  consider a Oliver for trade in, same problem no NADA used value.  If you need to finance a Oliver new is the best Choice. There are some banks, credit unions and RV financial groups, you can get long term 7 yr plus the catch is the higher amount finance the lower interest rate.  The other advantage of new and Rv Loan. Tax write off as a second home. This is the problems i faced others may have had better results.

Are you referring to mainstream Elkhart RVs?

    John

The mainstream RV wiring are like rats nests Airstream included  Oliver has the best  wiring  I’ve seen.  I’ll  admit wiring is one of my weak points.   The Oliver is easy traceable  A least my 2019 Ollie is.

Is there good thread covering various approaches to  fastening various types of modification items (mounted photos/prints, paper towel holders, clotheslines,  etc. etc.) to different parts  of the trailer? I've done a few stabs at searching and may just not  be using the right search  terms to turn  an existing thread up. If there isn't such a thread, perhaps folks can post strategies  and products here. Bolts/washers/nylock nuts,  3M VHB tape  (so many VHB types to choose from!), velcro tape, 3M Dual Lock  tape, 3M tape primer, etc. etc. I can make some pretty good guesses but I know some of you  have seen  what does  and  perhaps  doesn't work (worth mentioning too!) and  have opinions on all this!

If it comes to the dreaded drilling holes in the fiberglass, I prefer pop rivets.  Flatter heads  better grip less chance  of rivets backing out or striping threads like screws.   stick on fasteners is my first choice.

Salsa, yeah, that's it.  Love it, but not enough to make me buy an Airstream!

While researching, I noticed photos of used Airstreams where the ultra-leather seems to have stretched and has wrinkles.  We had our Leisure Travel Van four years and the upholstery didn't do that.  Perhaps it's because the cushions in the Airstream are much larger than our van, or the Oliver.

Not that it matters - we're getting an Oliver - but has anyone with the ultra fabric upgrade on the larger cushions on the rear benches noticed any wrinkling?

My previous trailer 30’ Airstream Serenity had the ultra leather Oyster 5 months traveling across the country with two dogs it was one of the only things that held up well.

Dakota Black was dropped when they switched to decor packages.  Personally, I'm glad they kept Mont Blanc over the Dakota fiber granite because that was my choice when decor picks were ala carte.  I can understand them needing to keep a brown option, although I don't care for the Alpine.  Had they not offered the Midnight Decor (Flannel or Grey Jay upholstery and Mont Blanc counters) I would have chosen the Storm Decor with Wild West Ultra Fabric and Quarry fiber granite.  With our chosen black overhead cabinet doors, the Dakota would be too much black.

I agree there needs to be one non-black/grey/brown/tan upholstery choice.  Navy would be a nice addition, but I think red ultra fabric would be awesome!  Of course, it is easy to have the cushions reupholstered.

Airstream used to have a red ultraleather option - more of a paprika/chili pepper color.  I don't see it offered now.

That interior is called salsa that is an option on the airstream  Serenity

The dual fuel, inverter champion we got from Costco is quieter than all the Honda/Yamaha inverters I've run into at campgrounds.  I know you've been mostly looking at those, but I see quiet brought up a lot in your post so I thought I'd mention it.  It's a little bigger than the 2200 series you are looking at, but it also can power the air conditioner at Gros Ventre (6000-7000') without a problem and no voided warranty to be able to run propane. It's not showing in stock now, but it pops in and out of stock as they get shipments.

    https://www.championpowerequipment.com/product/100204-3100-watt-dual-fuel-inverter/

Here is the super-secret link to Costco, it will show you a bear if it's out of stock: https://www.costco.com/Champion-DUAL-FUEL-2800wt-Running--3100wt-Peak-Digital-Inverter-Generator%2c-Electric-Start%2c-RV-Ready%2c-Parallel-Capable%2c-CARB-%2526-EPA-Certified%2c-Low-Decibels.product.100284958.html?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r

Champion has been super-responsive to emails, and sent me the high altitude jet for free in case we need to run gas at elevation. If Champion stops being super, then it goes back to Costco. For us, the generator is pretty low-risk as we only need it for AC or brief periods to run the microwave or convection oven - we are 12VDC only when boondocking otherwise and the solar keeps up so long as we aren't running our laptops hard on a cloudy day.

Rats, I got a bear.  I don't need a generator, but knowing I can't have one makes me want it.

I’ve had my champion duel fuel for over 5 years gone through two hurricanes 24/7 operation  7 and 10 days operating full bore with the ac on Florida weather. No problems 🤞

  13. I use the bed topper /cap. It has its advantages and disadvantages.  I found something interesting made for toppers. A topper lift.  4  electric post lifts, that lifts the topper to be able to put larger item in the truck bed.  The other nice idea is the company sells a kit to convert the topper to a tent camper when lifted. The web site is topperezlift.com
