JRK, thank YOU for the post. I think we are having parallel new owner new-to-towing-etc. experiences in a way; OTT definitely recommends the Andersen for the Elite 1. Opinions elsewhere vary, of course but as a newbie I sure got confused a lot (and expect I will again, lol) trying to understand sone stuff here.

It could be just the way we all express ourselves differently in writing, which is a given, nothing “wrong” there.  I am amazed that I went from thinking I had to buy and bring the “ball thingy” and the piece it is on, and measure a “drop?” AND buy/bring a coupler,” AND chocks and levelers, etc. and I’ve had the same  “ohhh, ok, now I get it” moments you had, to where NOW I get that *OTT* is providing the stuff you listed. Whew! Thank you for the confirmation.

If OTT has a suggestion box, I may respectfully suggest they put a list or two up on the website with titles as simple as “Delivery Day: What You MUST Bring” and “Delivery Day: What You MAY Wish To Purchase Ahead of Time.” Like, the first list would have “chocks, leveling blocks.” (And perhaps helpful photos of what those look like or even an Amazon link.) The second list could have stuff like, “receiver pin lock thingy, Reese yellow coupler lock thing, chain with a keyed lock aka chock lock chain thingy,” etc. etc. With all the correct lingo of course! This is just a rough sketch “concept.” Heh.

Anyone buying an Oliver *luxury* TT certainly might want to know what they can do to deter theft, and what is *not* provided by OTT at delivery day, I mean, especially as a *newbie* (as I sure am!) to all this.

If you read the Oliver TT FAQ and scroll down through the page you will see what items you need to bring and what Oliver will provide. We also received a detailed list from our sales person well in advance of our delivery date. We did a lot of reading and research and asked questions on the forum which was extremely helpful.
I seriously doubt your going to see Oliver post Amazon links and or photos to suggested locks & chocks and the mountain of other things you can purchase off Amazon. This forum and Oliver University is a very good resource of information and a great way for you to learn and decide what items will work for you. Continue to read and do your research and you will be much better off than someone handing you a list. If you put the time in and work on a comprehensive list you will reap the rewards later. This approach has served us well as fairly new owners.

A salute to Oliver for providing a mountain of information readily available for its owners and future owners. 👍🏻🇺🇸

  2. I don’t see the Oliver production line starting up custom requests or partial options. They did not offer this when we purchased our 2020.
The other thing to consider is warranty. It might be a good idea to review Oliver warranty information prior to DIY installs. I think most will agree Oliver has the best warranty in the industry. And truly stand behind what they build.
As many have said on the fourm, it less expensive to have it installed in production than post delivery.
Just another view point. Enjoy your build!

  3. My 890 arrived yesterday and I am still thinking through this install. As TG mentioned I do have the optional upfitter switches (pic) one of which will likely be my 890 power source. The builtright mounting bracket is on its way from the supplier. And I already had a new ram mount in my shop that I had never opened from my previous 2 wheeled moto years. My only concern with the ram mount arm length from the mounting ram ball mounting point on the Builtright.
Which begs the question? Is there any noticeable screen bounce or screen vibration when driving down secondary roads using the longer ram arm mount?
In a recent conversation with TG, I believe he mentioned he saw no noticeable screen bounce or vibs on the smoother super slab on a recent trip.  Over thinking, Yes.. guilty.😎

Easily.  Even in 90 degree temps I think you could hang meat inside.  The issue is the noise from the AC.  Kicking in an out during the night isn’t very restful.  We shut it off whenever possible.  The ability to control humidity is what we enjoy the most.

    KenB,

What is this noise you speak of? 😂😂 I sleep like a bear! Beautiful pups by the way! Love setters and grew up grouse hunting!

  5. LongStride,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your Elite l, very exciting! This forum has a wealth of knowledge and a great Oliver family to become acquainted with. Everyone is more than willing to lend an ear and answer your questions. You also have plenty of time to study up on your Ollie and become Oliver University Alumni. Being fairly new Oliver owners ourselves, Oliver University has been extremely helpful. Oliver even takes there customer service to another level with great maintenance videos. So dive in snd enjoy.

Welcome to the Oliver Family, now hit the books. 📚👍🏻😄

  6. From a gorgeous sunny Western Carolina morning - Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Despite the challenges of this past year and likely many more in the future we feel blessed with great health, happiness and freedom.

The bird is in and rolling in hickory smoke for several hours and we won’t open the smoker door until our igrill mini meat probe reports on my iPhone that its done!  😊

A toast to a safe, healthy year ahead for all.

    Happy Camping!

  7. BlueHighways,

I agree with you on the additional cab comfort of a 3/4 ton on long haul trips, IMHO there is no comparison to a half ton or an SUV. We recently made a decision to move to a 3/4 and have zero regrets. Driver/passenger comfort, insane power from an extremely quiet diesel w/engine brake or Jake brake. Another huge plus is added cargo room and excellent cab visibility (ours is factory lifted) which really suits us perfectly for travel and touring. We also have the optional 1 ton Dana axle high capacity tow package TV and still averaging 21-22 mpgs highway. Drive what you enjoy and enjoy what you drive! 👍🏻

Happy Camping and enjoy that new TV!

I might call tomorrow and see if I can get Site 81. I'm probably waaaay early (i.e., don't know if the OTT people have reserved a spot there for me yet or not), but that's how I roll. hah Always early. (There's a Joe Walsh song I always liked. called "Things." One of the lines is. "It's the best thing to be early so you have some time to wait." It's like Joe was in my head when he wrote that lyric I swear.)

We called the CG directly and mentioned we were picking up our Ollie and they were very accommodating. Site 81 - I wide and level and I would pick it again. 😊

I've simply lost count on the number of times I've driven/ridden that road.  Last I heard, the record for the quickest it was ridden was right around 6 minutes.  If you drive or ride it slowly you can see bits of motorcycles and cars still hanging in the trees.  These days, law enforcement tries to control things much more than they did 10 to 15 years ago.  However, virtually every year someone losses their life doing stupid things on that road.

    Bill,

I had to blow the dust off an old photo of me at Deals Gap back in 1999. (It was not as well known as it is today population 6) I was riding my new 1999 Honda Valkyrie. This particular day I remember buying a long sleeve heavy t shirt which I recently parted with along with the leathers. The Deals Gap Store was tiny and had a few t-shirts in a card table for sale, so I bought one. Now it’s Tail of the Dragon...it attracts all kinds of moto and auto enthusiasts. Over the years grew way too crowded and just unsafe to ride and enjoy. Many have met their fate on Tail of the Dragon on her twisted turns and terms.
With 40 years plus safe riding years and a rather number or large sampling of different scoots, my wife and decided to retire off two wheels in Aug of 2018. Oh what a great ride it was!

The Valk...a great bike in its day. Never a moments problem. The last two scoots we owned my former R1200 BMW ADV and my bride on her Suzuki 650 Vstrom. Photo taken by “Blind Kenny” a road side photographer on route 80 aka- the Devils Whip right off the BRP.

  11. Just a follow up with the GE dehumidifier listed above. We learned in the owners manual that it should not be used below 41 degrees or above 90 degrees and its heavy as a boat anchor. So we returned the unit to HD yesterday. So our search continues. We will keep the Pro Breeze for travel.

We have a compressor type, whole house dehumidifier in our home in Florida.  I've not used a dehumidifier in the Oliver, yet.

I was curious,  too, about the difference between compressor vs dessicant dehumidifiers.  Thus article was pretty informative.

Dessicant type is more quiet (I'd like that, in the trailer), and more efficient in cool weather, below 15c/ 59 f, or so it says.

    Very interesting link, Thank you!
I just read in the owners manual not to run our new GE dehumidifier below 41 degrees or above 90 degrees😳. So with temps dipping below freezing I will just empty it and turn it off this mid week at night. The GE model has a high and low speed and it’s pretty quiet on low. A continued work in progress.

Here is the GE we purchased recommended by Ray.  We bought at HD - it’s heavier than it looks at 33 lbs empty.

JD, I am on a quest for hunter blaze orange Saran Wrap to cover that bowl! 😂

Maybe just a large note to self.

It would be super easy to seal off those traps to block the room air, so they don’t dry out and get smelly. For the floor and each sink, small circles of sheet rubber or pieces cut from an old mouse pad. For the flush toilet you would need to wrap the bowl with plastic kitchen wrap.

In our semi-arid climate I have no need for a dehumidifier, the relative humidity stays low and fairly constant in my Ollie, stored inside an attached, insulated (but unheated) RV bay. The house OTH requires a whole house humidifier for the furnace, or the RH will drop to 20% or less. Snap crackle pop! Blue lightning from your fingers! With the humidifier it stays at more comfortable 45-50%.

Great suggestions John, I have not wrapped a toilet seat in Saran Wrap since pulling a trick on a few friends many many years ago.😂 I will spare the details. Well I did get tossed into a pool full clothes as payback. 😂 Those teenage years were fun. A beverage and campfire story for sure.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
