Here is a link to the rally information and the campground. The rally is at the Happy Holiday Campground in Cherokee, NC. This will be our third time attending this rally, always a lot of fun and great people. We are really excited to meet fellow Oliver owners. We and the Slusher's picked up our new Ollies in May and have been doing some travelling together. We are heading to the Ohio Fall gathering near Cinncinatti and then onto Lancaster, PA rally before heading to Cherokee. There are still sites available at those rallies, as well. Hope to see you all there... http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f57/ ... 66907.html http://www.happyholidayrv.com

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! We have previously met some of the great folks that will be attending the OBX rally. We will be leaving a rally in Lancaster, PA on 10/8 enroute to the Cherokee, NC rally on the 13th. We have met so many nice people at the rallies! Have fun!!

David I am no expert on this at all I have only relied on the solar for 2 or 3 days at a time but will this winter in Quartzite. Did you check all the connections to see if there are any loose so as to not get a full charge or draw, also the water level in your batteries are they able to charge fully or did you lose one for a total draw charge. Have you shut the power to the inverter and see if it will reset possibly I am only guessing here as mine is in Florida and I'm in North Carolina now. I will follow this post so I have the future info should we or others need this remedy. Good Luck and hope someone more knowledgeable replies. Thanks Gary

Operation of the Water Heater on Electric Power
GaryJona replied to astrocaster's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
One more safety spot you can also turn off the Hot Water heater electric braker switch this I always do when I'm done camping.I only use the gas option on the hot water tank when I need hot water boon docking or non electric sites. Just a little add on. Thanks Gary -
Care of fiberglass/ inside and out
GaryJona replied to dharmardr's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Thank you all for the great info but I must add a small vacuum was extremely handy a couple month ago when we camped with friends who also have a Oliver on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The sand Fleas one night were in the thousands no Millions and the only way we could get them out was with the vacuum I'm sure glad Teri had her's with her on the trip. My wife will not leave home without one now. I'm sure it will be helpful come Quartzite this winter as well. Just another two cents. Thanks Gary -
I saw that post also and think I will do the same thing I like the idea of not having to remove the cover just to turn off the propane. Where did you decide to mount it and I would probably just use rivets instead of screws your not holding very much with the ring. Looks good. Thanks Gary

Hello and congrats on your new Ollie you will love the experience. My wife and I are from Florida and picked up our's in May of this year. We are planning with a few others to do Quartzite, Joshua Tree NP and Death Valley this winter for Jan & Feb so won't be able to connect. Since you are doing Florida I can say one thing pick some of your parks and get reservations if you know what you want to do you will be competing with a lot of Canadians and North Easterner's i.e. unlike your self that have been doing it for years and have made many of their claims to campsites. My wife and I have tried for a couple years to get into Paynes Prarie during the winter and only got lucky once after many canceled from rains in the area. Good luck enjoy and be safe. Thanks Gary

Well we just picked up our Elite II in May and did a short month trip with a friend who also picked theirs up as well. We tow with a Ford F150 and 5.0 engine. Does the F150 do the job yes could it be better yes, we had a Casita 17 Liberty deluxe and didn't know it was back there up hill, mountains, pull off's didn't matter but with the extra 2000 pounds we now feel it on the Mountain roads. The F150 gets about 18 MPG in general have a light foot, towing the Casita got around 15MPG and with the Oliver about 13 MPG driving around the East through Virginia, NC, SC, Smokies and back to Florida. I like my Ford and have considered the Diesel as well with the Casita I could pass a semi going up hill and with the Oliver I ride with them. I am not as concerned with the MPG the cost of a diesel off sets a lot of gasoline purchases but with using the tow vehicle at its max and strain on the transmission. The Eco Boost was coming out in 2011/12 when I bought ours and many sure like them but have heard about costly repairs when you get in to the 120,000 mile and up range. My few cents worth. Thanks Gary

We and another couple picked up our new Oliver II's a month ago and went on a fantastic 3 week trip. We totally agree on the noisy ac units. You should have heard the 2 Olivers side-by-side! Talk about some noise....almost embarrasing. I certainly hope this can be rectified, as this is a major concern, in my opinion. It was even hard to sleep at night as it cycled on and off. Please keep us all informed.

Congratulations! It will seem like forever, but just think of the excitement when you get the call to pick yours up. Hopefully, we should get our call within the month! Getting excited.......

Mr. David question when you were talking to the solar company what did they say it would do to the batteries when you only charge at the 15. 2 VS the 15.5. Does this shorten the life of them, develop a memory, and does it charge some of the batteries full and other short, I am thinking of when we boon dock like at Quartzite or Death valley next year or do we need to carry a generator since the solar was one of the main reasons so as not carry one. Just thinking out loud as I read your post. Thanks Gary

Hello I think we are talking about summer or 2016 for an Alaska Trip, this year will be just the East Coast after we pick her up and in the Fall Pennsylvania Lancaster Amish area down to the Smokies. We are planning Arizona Death valley and Big Bend areas end of Jan. through Feb into March. Did you make any reservations yet if your going to stay in Glacier park and Jasper/ Banff in Canada which is the way I would go they are hard to get into without them and also Denali in Alaska. Are you taking the Cassiar on the way back we really enjoyed that way on into Washington on around Olympia NP along the coast. I'm sure you picked up your Mile Post by now. Thanks Gary

Hello our new Oliver is in production now and just sold our Casita. Ron posted on his web site some likes and dislikes after a week of camping some of his statements we had already thought of after taking the Casita on several long trips. The first is the hooks question we use command hooks they hold really good and you can move them if you change your mind and no holes or patches. The second we did add a couple extra plugs 3 of them one by night stand for clock or charging phones etc, second out side bottom of closet near entry door we sometimes used a cube heater for camp sites like going to Alaska that only have 15 amp service and out of the path to the bathroom at night and a third on the bottom of the sofa/ bed on the driver side near the pantry as again plugging in a phone / computer as the passenger side has one over the stove we learned this in the Casita I installed one also so my wife when charging the phone did not have to run a cord across the isle. I did have the small inverter and two more 12 volt plugs added again for electronic charging one by the night stand for the wife and one Driver side bed near pantry. Thanks Gary

We stayed at St Mary's campground in Glacier NP when we went into Canada went out the east end of the park and straight north to the crossing no wait no problem unless they have changed I think they do not open till 7:30 or 8:30 in the morning and not sure when they close in the evening you can look that up. There is a route around Calgary to go to Banff NP, Calgary has a lot of traffic unless you want to see the city. If you are going to Alaska be sure you get the Mile Post would not go with out it and after to leave Jasper and the Ice Field there is a north route you can take up to Dawson Creek for the beginning of the Alaska Canadian Hwy. You have to do your picture at Mile Marker Zero there are two of them the one on the main road but drive a few blocks in the small town and see the original marker site. Thanks Gary

We have a cabin on top of a mountain west of Murphy NC. I was always able to pull the Casita up to the house for the summer when stopping there but we will see if I can do the same with the Oliver. I just gave you a partial view of the camping we did I must say doing it in the summer you will need to have reservations on holidays and if you want to camp in the National Parks such as Arches, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone etc I would set them up months before. Two places I would try to stay are Custer state park in South Dakota for Mount Rushmore, drive to Devils Tower, Wind Canes National Park just south of the park. Second if you go to Glacier go over the border and go west of Calgary to Banff, Jasper National Parks and the Canadian Ice fields the border crossing is just north of the east entrance to Glacier. Thanks Gary

Sounds like you are doing some good planning ahead, when my wife and i went to Alaska in 2012 we went throughout the South West first through Arizona, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Arches etc up to Wind Caves Custer State Park Devils Tower around South Dakota, then Yellow Stone, Grand Tetons up to Glacier NP and then into Canada Ice Fields Jasper NP to Alaska then back the western route into Washington taking the 101 around Olympia NP into the Redwoods. We did a day or two there of Dry camping. This past year we went to the Maritimes New Foundland, Labrador etc again maybe a day of dry camping here and there. The plan is to do Quartzite and Death Valley back through Big Bend NP this coming Jan, Feb and March which will be as you are doing weeks at a time of Boondocking. Should be a lot nicer with the Oliver in tow for that trip. We have a place in Murphy NC as my wife had written in that last post she removed but if we can we will try and see if it fits the schedule. Thanks Gary

I still only have my Casita but is the water on the dinette in the same area as the water in the cabinets second the water would have to travel from the outer shell to drip on the inner shell do you see any water in the bottom through access holes. Unless it is a lot of water I would think it is swetting with lack of air movement you could try and open the cabinet and have a fan or air movement going. Good luck figuring it out as we will all face this at times. Please let us know your findings. Thanks Gary

I want to thank Trunpetguy as we have spoken on the phone a few weeks ago and ScubaRX for the response to the questions. We went to Holenwald last summer to tour the plant before the wife and I took our trip to New Foundland and on the way back we went again in October and placed our order so as others have said looking forward to pick up day. I have been tossing between the two size propane tanks, one the weight on the tongue and second lifting those full 30 pounders into the shroud. With the Casita I can go a long time on just one tank but have not boon docked as much as we will with the Oliver and next year Quartzite will be the longest period with some cold weather traveling there and back. Hope to run into you a all one day on the roads of America. Thanks Gary

Hello glad your staying warm. I would sure think using on on board heater with the air lines between the shell would keep anything from freezing much better than using the electric heater. I remember of reading a post of someone that put hatch openings under the beds to open up so should he use the electric heat, it would better reach between the two shells and protect the water tanks. If you continue using the propane which size tanks did you get the 20 or 30 lb tanks and how long of time did you get from them on your travels. I have a interest in this as I will be going to Quartzite next year from Florida and will probably need them at times. Thanks Gary

Just a little side note, if I may please read the true listing of the towing weight if it has say a 5000 pound tow weight most of the time it is giving you that when you use a weight distribution hitch and it is half the weight with out. I tow with a F150 and it is half of the gross tow weight without one. You usually have to look under the hitch or the small print on the print out of vehicle tow weight tables when given by the manufacturer. Please look when making your choice.

That has to be a great feeling. Do you have any travel plans for when you pick her up. Let the planning begin. Best of wishes on your new build and healthy travels.
