Great Sand Dunes RV parks

Has anyone found a spot at Pinon Flats ,at Great Sand Dunes, which is big enough to park the 26 foot Ollie next to a 19 foot truck....all indications and research suggest that this park is older and the spots are quite small.

As usual....thank ya"ll so much

They do have mostly tent sites. They advertise some RV sites up to 25 FT (depending on your dates). I believe you will find the Oliver Elite II is actually 23.5 FT not 26 FT. I always enter 23 FT when reserving a campsite.

You are correct, many of the sites in this older campground are for smaller rigs or tents, however, there are a few pull-thru sites available.  We reserved one two winters back for a 5 day stay and it was beautiful, easily handling our LII and F150.  Great Sand Dunes is a really fine NP and at the time we showed up there (late February) it was not at all crouded on trails although the campground was topped off.

Do not recall the name of the campground but about 6 - 8 miles south of the southern entrance to the NP is road leading to, I believe, a BLM campground where we stayed the night before we were due to arrive at the NP campground.  A serious climb above the valley bottem (maybe 1500 - 2000' feet above the main highway turnoff) but we were treated to one of the finest views we have ever had from a campsite.   Road into campground was good but steep and presented no problem for our truck & trailer.  We lucked into a site but a reservation would be useful here also as it was pretty full.

We camped at Piñon Flats, Loop 1 Site 38.  We fit.  There was a 25’ Airstream next to us and he fit as well.

Pinon Flats ,at Great Sand Dunes

I drove through that campground this summer (without OTT in tow) to check it out. I had wanted to stay but it was full. There are quite a few sites that would be okay (if tight) to fit, and there are also quite a few that are "pull through" although I would call them an "apron" as they are essentially a space where the road is widened to accept a TT and TV. A couple I spoke who said they were happy with the apron site they were using, though it meant that when they sit outside or grille outside, all the traffic is immediately adjacent to their space (dirt and dust and noise).  If there are true pull-through sites, I didn't see them.

Since the Great Sand Dunes NP campground was full, I stayed at Zapata Falls and it was wonderful. A few sites there are large enough for OTT. The host can talk to you about the individual sites. Also, there is a nice hike to Zapata Falls adjacent to the campground.

Zapata Falls is the name of the cg that the Neumans refer to (above this post)...  photos from Zapata Falls campground.
